Shawn, I owned the UA OX and just didn't bond with it. A lot of tweaking to get it even close to sounding like my Marshall 4x12 with 25 Watt Greenbacks. I was able to return it and I picked up the Suhr Reactive Load IR. Your video here was a big reason why. Man, am I grateful. Right out of the box, setting 1.2 with the 4x12 Greenback HiGn 57 121, it sounds amazingly close to my beloved cabinet with my 1990 Marshall 2555 Jubilee. I've tried some Ownhammer and Celestion IR's and they are very good, but the Suhr 1.2 setting is just amazing. Thanks so much and terrific tone and playing as always!!

Great video, music and playing! I purchased this unit a couple of months ago and I cannot figure out why I have to put the master on my amp below 2 to avoid clipping. I’ve tried through my mixer, straight to the studio monitors and through the 2i2 Scarlett. It’s driving me crazy. I have the Carvin Legacy III. Through the speaker cab it sounds fantastic with the master cranked. Any input?
@ShawnTubbs3 жыл бұрын
By clipping, do you mean the input to your mixer? If so, make sure your mixer channel input is set to line level or +4db. You may have the input on your mixer set to mic level which will clip right away.
@sbrave7 ай бұрын
Just got one of these used. The IR output is barely audible, vs the non-IR output. Using a 100w Marshall head @8Ohms, and sounds fine going through my real cab as well. I verified the IR's are in their folders, so not sure what else it could be? I tried balanced and unbalanced cables as the outputs to my DAW.

Hello sir! Great playing!! Was wandering what your signal path is? Out of Reactive Load IR into a preamp then interface? Or straight into interface (preamp)? Thanks!!

When you are using the 'through' will it also serve as an attenuator for the signal that the cab sees? Trying to see if it can send an IR signal to FOH but an attenuated load bearing signal to the cab as well. Thanks for the great demo!

Great demo and really cool tones! Where would you put effects like reverb or delay? Should I use them In front of the amp or is it better to add them directly from your DAW? Thank you!
@ShawnTubbs4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! There really aren't any rules. For the most part, I like to run verb and delay to the front of an amp but only if I can keep it relatively clean. If I'm running a dirty front end and the amp has an FX loop I'll go that route. I'll use verbs and delays within my DAW if I don't want to record "off the cone" and need to have control of the effects later.
@francodesarro21934 жыл бұрын
@@ShawnTubbs Thank you for your reply. Would you approach it the same way using the Suhr RL IR?
@ShawnTubbs4 жыл бұрын
@@francodesarro2193 Yes the same would apply for a true speaker or IR modeler.
@ron9804 жыл бұрын
Shawn! What do you think about the Suhr Reactive Load I.R. compared with the UA Ox Box, just regarding the load box and I.R. portions of the devices? (I know UA doesn't refer to their speaker sim as I.R...but regardless.) I understand the Reactive Load IR doesn't do attenuation, but besides that, how would you rate each of these against each other?
@ShawnTubbs4 жыл бұрын
They both sound outstanding from that regard. It basically boils down to what you need. If you need to have complete control and make tweaks to different mics and rooms as well as have delay, reverb and comp effects, then spend the extra cash and get the OX. If you have great sounding IR's that you use all of the time and just need a Reactive Load box with IR capabilities, the Suhr RLIR is really hard to beat.
@motrock24 жыл бұрын
Shawn; this is a great video. I could use some advice. I am trying to choose between this at a UA OX. I am getting a UA Apollo in a few months. I have a Plexi clone and 2203 clone. I do hard rock. I realize the OX is almost double the price of the Suhr. Is it worth it? Comparing the 2; which would you recommend for a guy recording at home?
@ShawnTubbs4 жыл бұрын
Hey Kurt, I would look at what your needs are. If you really feel like you need more control over mic placement and volume as well as complete control over the room the OX would be the way to go. If you feel like you want onboard EQ, Comp, Delay, and Verb then look at the OX. If you just need to have great sounding IR's and a reactive load box you absolutely can't beat the Suhr RLIR. Both sound really great.

Great intro song and playing. I'm confused about either: Suhr I.R. or Fryette PS-2 or Two Notes Captor X - just to tame a Fender Princeton for a NYC apartment? Stay Safe.
@ShawnTubbs3 жыл бұрын
If you would rather just attenuate your Princeton and play thru it alone without using IR's, the Fryette would be a good choice, or maybe look at the Tone King Iron Man 30 watt attenuator. If you're wanting to run your Princeton through a reactive load and record it via IR's, Captor X is hard to beat.

When using the suhr reactive load Is there any way to run a simultaneous dry direct signal to another track for reamping later or to use with plugin amp sims?
@ShawnTubbs Жыл бұрын
I don't think so because you would need to bypass straight thru with the GTR signal. There's an unfiltered output but that would still include the amp input.
@gulfsidestudios39952 жыл бұрын
Hey Shawn, I've recently picked one of these up and hooked it up as directed but I'm only getting the dry audio out of the R speaker unless I use a stereo effect such as the Neunaber reverb plugin. Have you run into this?
@ShawnTubbs2 жыл бұрын
The line-outs of the RLIR are not stereo. You have an unfiltered or "non IR" out and an IR out. The IR out has the Cab Sims and the Unfiltered out is dry or "non-cab sim".
@gulfsidestudios39952 жыл бұрын
@@ShawnTubbs I appreciate you getting back to me! I’m embarrassed to say…the minute I sent this message I thought to myself I should have the track in mono instead of a stereo track. I do agree with you on that. I've noticed a few are finally starting to switch over to XLR for any DI outs. From asking around, it seems the builders are worried that some won't realize that though it looks like a "mic" output, it's not a "mic" level output.

@@filip5150 Based on a review of the specs on the Suhr website, you could use a male TRS 1/4" to male XLR cord for balanced output to a mixing board.
