Who knows why you're depressed? I don't, but I know one thing: some of us have to TRY to be happy, because happiness isn't free. But if you've ever heard the phrase "the grass is always greener on the other side," then you can understand that negativity and sadness ARE free. Instead of saying "I don't know why I'm depressed. I have no reason to be but I still am," try saying "I know that this darkness is part of who I am, so how can I be happy despite it?"

I've been subscribed to Boogie for a while now, and I find that his videos are inspiring to a certain degree, I mean, you see all these ultra famous KZbinrs like Pewdiepie and Smosh, they have the fame, the money, they have everything, I feel that Boogie should be apart of that, I mean, if anyone deserves it, it would be him. His videos aren't fake or dull, but inspiring, and he says in a couple of his videos that he isn't exactly the brightest, but just from watching his videos, you can tell that isn't true, if anyone, he deserves to be one of the top KZbin channels. In my opinion.

What's more selfish? Committing suicide, or forcing someone to live a lifetime of agony because you would be temporarily hurt if they left? We cannot consent to being born. I did not consent to being held hostage in this lifetime.
@GigaDonk999 жыл бұрын
+Noah Fence Just cause you're unhappy now, doesn't mean you'll never be happy in the future. You have no idea what the future holds. I'm not going to tell you suicide is the most selfish thing ever, but it is a way of throwing away any chance of you being happy in the future. You might think it's not worth fighting through the pain to get there, but I'm not talking about maybe seeing a good movie and feeling a bit of joy next week, I mean true happiness, being loved, having a good family and money and success, it's all possible, even if it doesn't seem to be now. I don't know what your situation is of course, but I certainly don't want you or anyone else to kill themself. I don't even know you, but I care anyway. There's always someone who cares. Now I know I'm late to the party, seeing how this is a 4 year old video, but I stumbled upon a Huffpost article about you and I just wanted to give my respects to you for making videos on serious topics such as this and you got my sub. Thanks for being a good guy and sharing this, there are so many people suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts but for so long it has been something that hasn't been socially accepted to talk about or to show yourself vulnerable since everybody is "supposed" to project an image of strength and well-being. It's good to see that this trend is changing and that you are a part of that change. Keep on keepin on and my thoughts goes out to anybody who is watching this because they are having suicidal thoughts, I hope you find the strength within yourself to defeat it so that the sun can shine for you again.

This was beyond inspiring. I told my mother today that I need help because I have been seriously thinking of ways to end it. I suffer from depression, and I have been through a rough past years ago, but they only reason I want to end it is because I hate my exterior. I love my inner self, I know I am a good person, but when I look in the mirror I want to shut myself in my room and not come out, and sometimes that's the case. I need to learn to love myself, and I'm not sure how to do that, but this video spoke to me, you spoke to me. I can't say I know much about American politics (borderline nothing in fact), but just the thought of living in an area with so many racists and discriminative people, literally makes me feels sick! Sorry if it came across that I judged you before, though I think you level of trolling is a bit on the extreme side, in my opinion at least. I mean, you said some horrible things about Mormons, and have told people to kill themselves. Surely as a Boogie fan, you should understand that level pain you're inflicting. I don't know, maybe it's just me. I mean I'm VERY sensitive to insults. I can't take a joke from even my closest friends without it upsetting me. We were all bullied in school, but either the level I took, or the way I took the bullying, affected me in a way that pranks, banter, and trolling seem nothing but cruel to me. So maybe you shouldn't listen to my opinion as I might not be the best judge, but I can't imagine everyone would disagree with me. I don't know, what do you think?

I don't believe suicide is the most selfish act. People who make such a claim likely have little idea how incredibly torturous life can become for some people. Or they are people who may have suffered immensely and now life is more bearable and maybe even enjoyable. People who assert that suicide is the most selfish act might mean well, but they risk aggravating the mood of the very people they are trying to help. One of the keys to helping people who are suffering is AFFIRMATION. And one can communicate affirmation to a person who is suicidal by not making light of their suffering in ANY way. Making the charge that they are being selfish may risk aggravating them further as it may make them feel as though people don’t fully grasp the immense agony they are going through.

Going through your videos Boogie and I happen to stumble upon this one. Sorta brings back memories of my hardship years ago. But I like how you say that everyone's life difficulty is set different. Some have their life mode on easy and others have it on expert. If one can beat the game of life on hard mode, then they don't have to prove anything. I lost my sister at the start of the century to a drunk driver and the pain of that loss still lingers in me. One can cope with it but like you said, those memories still can come back to haunt you. Being depressed and having anxiety didn't make things much better for me. But more than 10 years later, I did with what I could to make it through my life and I couldn't be any more happier. While the depression is gone and the anxiety, the loss of my sister certainly will never be gone but I cope and remember the good things we once did. And where ever she is now, I know that she is smiling for the things I have done in my life.

Yup. Saying that "Suicide is selfish" or "You'll transfer that pain to your family, and you should stay alive for them" seems like it contributes to the problem. It even seems like its aggravates the person who wants to do the act, even further. If you want to break the cycle of suicide... don't talk about how others will benefit from a person continuing to live. Listen to that person. Calling whoever wants to do the act, "selfish"...is continuing the problem that sadly happens all too often in the present day. Someone probably died as I typed this question.

I really dislike it when some people say "suicide is selfish" because there's so much hypocrisy in that statement. Why the fuck should I stay in this world just so other people won't get upset themselves? Why should I stay here with suffering anguish and pain just so someone close to me doesn't get hurt? In a way they're being selfish too because they want someone to be alive and suffer just so they can live happily knowing they're here. That's a big load of bullshit and hypocrisy, they're just as selfish as the person who's contemplating suicide. Some people say that so easily without understanding what the fuck they're going through. (You're an exception though, Francis. and I respect you.)
@Womp0844 жыл бұрын
I know I'm 6 years late to this, and idk if you even still believe this, I just want to say this anyways. It's selfish because it's always the wrong option. If you listen to Boogie he explains, you have so much time left and you don't know what's going to happen, why would you cut your life short, and transfer the pain you feel right now to the people that care about you, just because of the slim chance chance you MIGHT still feel this pain for the remainder of your life?

I'm 23 years old and I've struggled with loneliness and depression throughout most of my life, I got bullied and picked on endlessly in school. It slowly killed me inside as a person and made me lose interest in education as a whole and i ended up failing school entirely. I then found out three years after school finished that i have aspergers. I've also never had a girlfriend and i could tell in school that girls were interested in me, but i didn't have the social skills to act on it at the time because i was extremely depressed and lacked the confidence due to constant harassment, and because of that constant failure of not finding love like my friends did, it made me miserable and i struggle to even go outside the house at this stage. I also went to my high school graduation by myself while every other guy including my friends was there with his girlfriend, i was the only single guy there. It was probably the most humiliating moment in my life. Now all i do everyday is stay inside all day listening to music, playing video games and watching KZbin videos to pass the time and cope with whatever pain i'm feeling and i have essentially no social life. I'm literally miserable and i wish on a daily basis that i never existed.
@zlogist9 жыл бұрын
I don't know if it's selfish. I've been struggling with it for ten years now, almost half of my life. And i've come to a point where i don't feel hapiness anymore. It feels as if i'm broken. The only thing i ever feel is pain. Right now i don't have ANY friends. People i talk to from time to time but who don't care about me and i barely know. I can't seem to get close to anyone but my heart still screams for affection, tenderness, friendship,.... Every night i cry and i don't think about doing it, i just hurt so much inside, i cry, i scream but it won't fucking go away no matter what i do and in theses moments, i can barely breathe. When it happens every single day of your life, you go mad. I'm tired, so so tired. I don't have any more strength. And i'm beginning to think that the people around me are selfish for wanting me to keep living and hurting this way. I don't have any dreams, anything i want to do, i'm just an empty shell. Is it even worth trying?

People who assert that suicide is the most selfish act might mean well, but they risk aggravating the mood of the very people they are trying to help. One of the keys to helping people who are suffering is AFFIRMATION. And one can communicate affirmation to a person who is suicidal by not making light of their suffering in ANY way. Making the charge that suicide is the most selfish act may risk aggravating them further as it may make them feel as though people don’t fully grasp the immense agony they are going through. Yes, many people do indeed learn to cope with their suffering and end up becoming a success and maybe end up with millions of subscribers on youtube. But many others do not cope well and life can become increasingly more and more torturous for them, especially if they have little hope of the pain going away. Suicide is not right, but it is understandable in light of the immense torment some people are left to contend with. I would never tell a person to kill themselves, but I'm extremely careful to never charge them with the idea that suicide is the most selfish act as, even if it's true, such a charge may risk inflaming their misery even more. And that is something the person considering suicide likely doesn't need.

@jeremyanderson36155 жыл бұрын
True especially when you’re on the receiving end of those thoughts. People need to take a moment and put themselves in the shoes of an individual who might be having those thoughts. What might they be feeling that would drive them to want to commit suicide

I mean nobody says cancer is selfish. Why do you say depression and suicide is selfish. We don’t choose to die from cancer as well as we don’t choose to be sick from depression. This is one of the reasons I actually have anxiety and can’t express my feelings properly. “You live better than kids in Africa”. “It’s selfish of you to behave like that”. It makes pain invalid and actually intensifies it with guilt. I can’t control my brain chemicals as much as I can’t control catching a cold. Why are you guys so critical towards those who commit suicide. It’s not selfishness that drives it. It’s the suffering as in any illness.
@user-qm3yy5mh8l4 жыл бұрын
That and for some people its not just the illness or illness at all. It is logic for a lot of the time

Bravo Boogie! Bravo!! I hope this helps the girl you were trying to reach out to. Life is precious and it can be taken away in a blink of an eye. It is NOT up to us to decide when that time will be. You are absolutely 100% correct about what happens to the families and friends left behind when someone decides to commit suicide. Everybody has problems, everybody. Some are far worse than others. So if you think your life is so bad, just remember, there is somebody else that is way worse off than you. Get help and learn to cope with what ever has got you down!! Boogie, thank you for such an inspirational video! As far as the HATERS and all their NASTY NEGATIVE comments-- why don't you clean off your own doorstep before you go knocking on someone else's door!! If you don't understand what that means, well you really need to read books instead of spending all your time on the computer or playing too many video games!!!!!

I'm dealing with depression an anxiety which have lead me to have some disturbing thoughts that I would rather not say. But your right we aren't certain of what's after this life something is better than nothing. The truth is everyone who's suicidal doesn't want to end it but everyday just seems like a repeat of each day getting worse. It's not easy but for my daughter I want to do it because if I'm suffering from mental illness what affects will it have on here growing up without a father. This isn't the only video I've seen about depression and negative thoughts some days are better and some u just want to give up I love my daughter idk what I'd do without her she's my hope and faith. God bless u Bro and keep up the inspiration.

1 Thing about what he said that you should accept that you're going to die, and yes you really should, when I was 13 I would worry and get upset about it now I just try and stop thinking about it and yes it can be hard for some people, but if you don't accept it and you live your life in fear of death then its going to be a very depressing life.

Went through a bout of depression after being cheated on and breaking up with my GF of 3 1/2 years in college. My whole senior year was a struggle, but you have to dig deeper. You have to learn to get angry at yourself, to fight the enemy in your head that keeps telling you that you failed. Being able to overcome through adversity, only makes you stronger when you finally succeed. Nothing worth doing ever happens in a day. True rewards come to those with patience. Never lose sight of that. While today might be bad, your strength to fight it will give you a power in your integrity and character that is unmatched. You may lose some battles, but you can win the war.
