A deck similar to this destroyed me last night at an event while I was playing Temur Monsters. It was great and hilarious. Game one he T1, Elvish Mystic, T2, Satyr Wayfinder for a Polluted Delta, T3, Sidisi + zombie (I Lightning Strike her), T4, Murderous Cut my Stormbreath Dragon and Drops another Sidisi. It was pretty much over. A few turns later I was able to stop his Hornets with a Barrage of Boulders, but it was too late and I was too far behind. Game two I never drew any Disdainful strokes or Stubborn Denials. He dropped a couple Doomwake Giants on me and wrecked my mana dorks and I was never able to stabilize. Instead of Coursers, he was running Deathdealers and inevitably (with a small horde of zombies), that is what pounded my face in with for the win. Don't know if Courser in this deck is really necessary. It's not good on the whip back, and the Deathdealers are good at any point in the game. With enough mana late game you can whip them back and pump.

TheManaSource I built U/B Control as well as Sidisi Whip, and I have been doing excellent against all the Midrange strategies running around. Not to mention it made Top 8 at the Pro Tour. It would be awesome if you did a U/B Control deck tech Wedge. Keep up the good work.

I actually run 4 Nyx Weaver in the build I put together. Its a card I'm always happy to see in this deck, and with so much removal out there, and the chance of them turning up in the graveyard, I want the 4 in there. In my mind its just as much a staple of this deck as Sidisi is.
@danielps662910 жыл бұрын
I was looking at making a deck similar to this, except my list had Nighthowler and Nemesis of Mortals, but it also had Commune with the Gods and less removal.
@Potatomuffin10 жыл бұрын
The thing that I like about the whip deck as well is that your creatures can basically become a handful of instants even when they get self-milled or killed, especially when you sideboard properly. Going against a ton of tokens/mini dudes? Whip that Doomwake giant. Going against a mirror and need to get rid of that whip? Whip in that Reclamation Sage. Big fat wall of monsters on the opponent's field? Whip in that Hornet Queen and ponder how a legendary hydra is scared of one goddamn hornet. If only shadowborn demon existed in this block then I would totally put him in there.
@julianmtg280910 жыл бұрын
Hey Wedge, love the deck techs there great. I am planning on building this deck, I like it a ton. I was starting to make some tweaks like adding another courser and taking out an elf, then I realized that I was taking your deck idea BECAUSE, I have not proved to be good at making my own constructed decks currently. Before I completely throw away my binder to get these cards I would like to know why it is not worth it to put in some more "controlly" cards like treasure cruise, dig through time, or taigam's scheming. Also, if you were to add one in, which one would you add?

I currently don't have anything specific in mind, but what I would suggest doing is look at the lands and staple cards and then try to replace them with cards that do the same thing better, that are modern legal. Get what I mean?

Sidisi is great for graveyard shenanigans. How does this sound? Turn one- Opulent Palace Turn Two - Rattleclaw Mystic/Elvish mystic Turn three - Sidisi, Mill for a token. From there, Nyx Weaver, whip of Erebos or even Nighthowler could be good plays. As long as the self mill keeps going, Nighthowler is just gonna get bigger. Just watch that you don't deck yourself in the process, but I doubt you will before the game is over and your opponent is smashed by Sidisi + Nighthowler.
@MrInfernoblade1010 жыл бұрын
Wow this is insanely close to the idea I had right after release :)
@guftders10 жыл бұрын
I don't get why people don't run Taigams Scheming. Its a two drop sorcery that allows you to look at the top 5 cards of your deck, ditch whatever you want to, then put the rest back in any order. So basically you ditch anything you can't immediately cast (like Hornet Queen and Soul) and set yourself up for the next couple of turns. How is that not simply amazing?
@imnoexpert192610 жыл бұрын
I KNOW, i keep telling people this. thank you
@arenkai10 жыл бұрын
At first I didn't understand either but then I faced a Jeskai and aggro meta. And know I understand why they play Wayfinder over Scheming: it trades enough for you to survive the early game against aggro and it fixes your manabase faster than Scheming and it allows you to deal a bit of damage before it gets killed ^^
@guftders10 жыл бұрын
Ah OK, but still, can't both be run?
@arenkai10 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't see where it could fit in. If there was a reason to swap Wayfinder (local meta i.e.) my choice would be Commune With Gods since it puts the card you want IN your hand. It's basically faster than just being able to scry 5 and dump stuff. Sultai Whip has a slow gameplan that resembles Control decks with no real early-threats, so your goal is to take advantage as fast as possible and throw your threats at your opponent's face. And all this is done by keeping the tempo in early-game with board presence and fast quality advantage
@TheMissthebus9 жыл бұрын
It loses card advantage, and at sorcery speed is way too slow to even be an ok scry effect.

I've been running a 4-color (really just G/B with a tiny hint of R/U) version of this deck which emphasizes token makers and Purphoros. You know what's better than Whipping back a Hornet Queen? Whipping back a Hornet Queen and dealing 10 damage to your opponent's face.

I've been trying to run sultai since the prerelease but I never found a build I liked. Reanimation and delve decks were alright but always felt too fragile and shaky. I really like this build, I've been running this- tappedout.net/mtg-decks/14-09-14-rawr/ and it's done alright, life gain is really good in this meta and I see this doing well. 300 is probably out of my price range but maybe down the line I'll consider it, great job on this. I suppose the deck being $300 is also sort of a good thing since most people aren't gonna drop 300 on sultai, especially when they could go jeskai tempo for around the same price which is more popular/safer. I really don't see anyone expecting this and I don't think other sultai decks will be able to handle lifelink or a reanimated hornet queen, if you even go against one.
