Great deck tech ! I'm currently building my own, more burn heavy version of the deck, and pro tip for anyone thinking about assembling a non-budget version: Don't "waste" your money on Kalitas unless you really, *really* "want" to ! A stable mana base with 4x Smoldering Marsh and 4x Foreboding Ruins + 2x Drana and 2x Olivia is *tons* more important than a kinda slow, defensive curve-topper that costs a ton of money because he is so good in Control and defensive/grindy midrange decks.

i chucked in some "call the bloodlines" in there. it gives you a 1 mana madness trigger AND it gives you a 1/1 vampire token. pretty sweet. i also chucked in perpetual timepiece since it shuffles all of your used and discarded spells back into the deck. again pretty nice.

I took this deck to a tournament and placed 14th out of 33. I only ran the marshes because ruins can still possibly come in tapped. I did put Kalitas, drana and olivia in the deck and removed the asylums all together. Not sure why you missed avacyn's judgement, but it is amazing in this deck vs. aggro. That being said the side board is heavy removal. Destroy planeswalkers, plague for tokens, languish, etc. I love it and cannot wait to run it at FNM this week.

That deck is awesome, thank you Wedge! I'm using a slightly different version, even cheaper, just adding more burn and card advantage like Alms of the Vein and Macabre Waltz, it can really help! Also, another good not-a-vampire creature I would recommend is Pale Rider of Trostad, and I think Sinister Concoction is just a reasonable upgrade to Lightning Axe against some of the big creatures out there like Awaken Horror, those pesky Dragonlords that are still flying around, and other big Eldrazis.

I've had a lot of success with the Elusive Tormenter, I'm a little shocked it wasn't mentioned. it's a big creature for cheap, that can slip through defenses, protect itself from spells, and induce madness at will. A must add imho.

Hi, I tried to follow your build in Magic Duels, but because of restrictions I came up with something similar. However, I need the opinion in one thing. Instead of 3 Tormenting Voices (non available), I came up with 3 alternatives (madness enablers): Sinister Concoction, Call the Bloodline and Macabre Waltz. Personally I prefer the Concoction because it's a nice (and harder to counter) removal and would spare me 1 mana. But I would like some feedback on this.

I've been playing a variation this deck at fnm for a while and have found indulgent aristocrat to be an amazing include as it can easily be a combat trick/get your team out of sweeper range. Have blown out a few people by instant speed pumping the team multiple times

Looks great, and I used part of it as a template for my version. One thing that I am a little confused about is the lack of Alms of the Vein. In my experience it has defiantly won me games and is another 3 damage for 1 mana with the upside of life gain. Thnx for all the great vids!!!!

I've been playing a build like the nonbudge since the beginning of release. I've dropped in 3 Alms of the Vain for additional life during other Aggro matches. I've also seen luck with Avaricious Dragon since.... you know own 90% of this deck has madness

This looks like a fun Standard deck. I like aggro decks and the madness strategy adds a new twist to it. Plus I have plenty of the dual lands for these colours sitting in a rare folder. Just need to pick up some of the cheaper rares and maybe trade for the non budget rares too to make this a competitive deck.

The deck is exactly what I was hoping to see the moment SOI was revealed, but I would advise some caution with the Castigator. It can seem tempting to simply ignore her downside, but that can be a fatal error in a standard full of fast/consistent creature decks. Several times at FNMs I've had aggro decks with Castigators Swing in as an attempt to finish me off, only to walk into one of my Avacyns, Companies, or even just a Dromoka's Command. While that might sound like a specific issue for the Bant Company matchup, there are plenty of other decks that pack the resources capable of punishing a hasty (pun intended) all-out assault. She certainly is a potential powerhouse, and I still encourage experimentation with her, but never ignore that downside. Losing to double damage out of seemingly nowhere is usually the opposite of fun.

For mine . I have more creatures. I am running only 9 other spells. I am running cinder barens in my deck but, now that you have mentioned how slow those are i am considering removing the cinder Barens. Also my land base is at 22. I do have a Kalitas and two olivas in my deck. At first I was experimenting with call to the bloodline and indulgent aristocrat but that seemed to work to clunky.

I think you actually don't want to go over 3 Smoldering Marsh, lands entering tapped in this deck is real bad news. I also think people tend to put cards in/cut cards from this deck with the assumption that you're always going to have a Falkenrath Gorger on the battlefield, when it's only 4 of your 60. You need, need, need cards with madness, and cheap madness at that. Cutting the Asylum Visitors for the strong 3-drop vampires in the non-budget version sounds nice on paper, but in practice, you lose a TON of value tossing them away. I'd honestly cut down on Ravenous Bloodseeker before I'd cut down on Asylum Visitor. Pretend that "bad Bob" clause isn't on there. It's an ability that isn't going to be turned on very often, but I think the card is worth playing even with out it. It having that text on it is just gravy, but it ends up being relevant more often than not anyway. That text will draw removal to it. An opponent might choose to kill the Asylum Visitor over your flipped Heir if you've got 0-1 cards left in hand, which is GREAT for you. Play the card as an aggressive madness creature, and forget the other text. It's still good, and having enough cards with the word "Madness" actually printed on the card is really important. I run a non -budget version with 0 Ravenous Bloodseeker, instead opting to play 4 Lightning Axe (rather than the usual 3) 2 copies of Kologhan's Command, and an Asylum Visitor, with a couple other changes in there as well. But going up on the one Lighting Axe does go a long way towards replacing the usefulness of Ravenous Vampire's repeatable effect. Kologhan's Command is really nice because you can get back a card you threw away to Lightning Axe or Heir if you were ever forced to discard for no value. Which happens. I have a lot to say about this deck. I've been playing with it and tuning it obsessively since before Shadows even came out. Innistrad Vampires was my first ever Standard deck, so it holds a special place in my heart. All in all, I really like this budget version, I guess the main thing I wanted to say was that cutting the Asylum Visitors when moving up to a full-priced version should not be obvious or automatic. The fact that they actually have madness and don't only have it when you're lucky enough to turn 1 Gorger is HUGE.

I think you can cut the Ravenous Bloodseekers, and I actually don't run Neonate, either. It's a very cool card, and it's nice to have a turn 1 play. It might even be wrong to not play! But I've found the deck is pretty consistent. What I've got going right now is pretty good; it doesn't beat any of the top tier decks or anything, but it's really fun to play and gets the occasional "oops I win" draws from chaining madness stuff together with Olivia. I hope Moon gives us some excellent stuff for the deck. It needs more support.

Would any of the standard Planeswalkers work well in this deck? I was thinking Chandra, Flamecaller might fit since this deck is based on Madness and her 0 cost ability is "Discard all the cards in your hand, then draw that many cards plus one." . Not to mention her +1 is very aggressive which is also a main focus of this deck "Put two 3/1 red Elemental creature tokens with haste onto the battlefield. Exile them at the beginning of the next end step." allowing you to swing for 9 every turn as long as you keep her alive.

Bring Olivia out as soon as you can if your running her. Turn one falkenrath gorger, turn two heir, turn three Olivia if in hand, turn four drop drana activate Olivia's effect discard firery temper to give drana +1+1 and haste cast the firery temper take out the biggest threat(or to deal that extra damage you need to kill your opponent) discard a land to transform heir and swing

Did you consider using Macabre Waltz instead of Tormenting Voice? I found that with it I would be less worried about trading attackers for blockers. Plus you get to pick what you get, and potentially Madness it immediately.

I have versed this deck many times. I play White/Black Allies with a midrange finish. Between the life gains and the black control spells, This deck doesn't do so well. Olivia is the scariest part of this deck because if she can't be dealt within a couple of turns the deck starts to overwhelm. The Innistrad lands are not something I would throw in this deck, you are right, speed is everything with this deck so a 1 of maybe 2 at most but a playset of foreboding will come back to haunt you later game when you are curving trying to haste another heir of falkenrath on turn 5. For sideboard tech, tainted remedies are a powerful counter to any white or black life gain, and languish would also deal with any reflector mage problems and if you are worried about your own creatures, than play safe in game do and stick to poking an opponent with neonates rather than pushing fast early game. I also really really like crumble to dust. Those is my suggestions if I were to run this deck.

I would replace all copies of Olivia's Bloodsworn with Bloodmad Vampire. It gives you more avenues through your first two turn. Gorger, Heir, Youths, is nut draw. But this gives you Aristocrat, Bloodmad, Masquerade. If you drop Aristocrat turn one, turn two you swing and pass, at opponents end step, activate Aristocrat, and drop Bloodmad. Turn three drop Masquerade, and swing with the 4/1 first striker. If it's not blocked, it becomes a 6/3 first strike instantly, due to its own trigger, plus masquerade. Bloodsworn is just not good, it can't block. And most vampires can be madnessed in for value during opponents turn. The Youths has Haste. So you're not getting value til turns 4,5,6, anyway, and you don't want to be going that long with this deck.

+Landon McGarry I haven't played the deck yet, but I would say 2 Drana, 3 Olivia and I probably wouldn't bother with Kalitas as you still want room for the Madness. I wouldn't run a playset because they're legendary, but Olivia can make madness and Drana is just amazing for aggro

I want to include Macabre Waltz and Call the bloodlines so badly in this, I think thoose 2 cards are really strong too (maybe just 2-2 of each), bringing back an Incorrigible Youth and madnessing it asap and attacking with it, is just awesome. And with running 2 Call the Bloodlines maybe switch out 1 neonate and 1 Bloodseeker for 2 Indulgent Aristocrat? Maybe bringing in 2 Markov Dreadknights just for the pumping + madness enabling ability in the budget deck? Or is it too slow and expensive? And what about grotesque mutation and uncaged fury combo? I guess there is no place for them in this deck?

+Frekazoid Waltz is in the sideboard I run with a deck very close to this, but after playing it for a while, I cut the Dreadknights because CMC 5 is a lot and the pump ties up quite a bit of mana, so it's only really good for 1 drop madness. CtB is fun and works nicely, though it can empty your hand pretty fast in conjunction with Olivia if you use both to get a 1 mana 2/2 hasted lifelinker (I usually do this as a combat trick and use a temper to burn out an attacker and drop a senseless rage to pump one of my blockers, so sometimes that token is a 4/4 surprise). I also have a couple of aristocrats because sometimes saccing a CtB token to pump the others is completely the right call, especially when you need bigger fliers.

Any thoughts on the sideboard? I'm pretty sure like 2-3 rending volley, 2-3 castigator, maybe a couple of that avacyn madness burn spell

I think u should run more removal in sideboard like ultimate price or ruinous path

the question is how many drana olivia and kalitas? as they are all legendary 3 each for the first two and 2 for the last as 4 mana is not where you want to be? anything for sideboard?

+Nels Paulson It's difficult to see how many to add in. The "Problem" with drana is that it doesnt work well with Stensia Masquerade as now everything has first strike and the counters get added after everyone has done damage, she also gets hated off very quickly and often wont survive longer than their turn UNLESS you can haste her with Olivia. So for that I would say 2 Drana, 3 Olivia and then 2 Kalitas. That said, Kalitas doesn't have much synergy with the deck at all, but is just a strong card that can finish off games.
