THIS IS HOW YOU DO A COMEBACK ALBUM BABEYYYYY!!! I remember the sheer hype of Dave's surprise return to the band, that was the moment that really made me realise just how much I loved this band. I do remember being a little worried that they might go down a similar path to FOB or Paramore, going in a more poppy/radio friendly direction - then I stayed up til 5am for the drop of the Fake My Own Death video and boy was it fucking worth it! From the get-go I knew this album would be great, and it still remains in my Top 3 Sum albums to this day. Also gotta shout-out 2016 in general for the amount of huge pop-punk names who were having comeback albums not only Sum 41, but also Green Day, Simple Plan, A Day To Remember, Good Charlotte and Blink-182! hell, Green Day's record even came out on the same day as 13 Voices, it was an insane time to be a pop-punk fan, in the best way.

While listening to this album on Spotify, i was looking through a playlist of mine and accidentally clicked Never Wake Up. It was a breath of fresh air.

Here I am again, about an hour later. Regarding 13 Voices, we seem to have a pretty similar opinion. I'm super glad the album exists and I'm even more glad Deryck is doing so well today. My favorite song on this one is, without a doubt, Goddamn I'm Dead Again. Pure energy and an amazing welcome-back to Dave who really makes this song. Now, on to Order in Decline!

I feel like this was Sum 41's more elegant works. Like seeing a whole different side of Deryck both musically and emotionally. It's possibly my favorite album too (I don't like picking favorites tho lol) I also possibly have a soft spot for it too cause like a year or 2 later is when I discovered Sum 41 for the first time.

For the track 13 Voices, I think it’s nice you caught the 32 Ways to Die reference. But there’s some sources somewhere online where that reference was actually referring to Stevo. Stevo being one of Deryck’s closest friend who didn’t visit him during his ‘downfall’.

Yea I've heard of that too! And also thought about it! But of course Deryck is such a nice person and literally speaks only about the best in people!

1:41 . by the way. Nice to see this Live show Clip. Its from 2010 in Germany, Duisburg and i was there^^ it was my first Concert. only a few months before that i became a Fan of the Band and then they came to my City. It was destiny 😂 I remember how Stevo just walked like a random person through this hall before the show started. I saw him and i run to him like a little Fan Boy, to take a picture. But he was too busy with talking to other people and my damn camera didnt worked fast enough. I was too nervous 😂

What a pleasant surprise to see an early March upload. After seeing the review you posted yesterday on Fillmore I thought we would have to wait until the end of March for this gem of an album. I love this album and was glad to see you enjoy it as well. We do disagree on the best songs on the album, however, I personally find Breaking the Chain, 13 Voices, and War to be the highlights. I think you're spot on about the bridge in Breaking the Chain, it slaps. The production issues I never noticed but I can see them being problems for sure. War is my top song on the album and I actually prefer the music video version. The song reminds me of Linkin Park, but I can't pinpoint any particular LP song. Overall, really liked the analysis and am looking forward to OID. The album is mixed bag for me, love some songs, find other songs to be repetitive and lacking lyrical substance. (seriously "I know a bad man when I see his face" is cringe lmao. And Heads will Roll is repetitive to me) I'm not against political lyrics, but it has to be done right. A song like Death in the Family did the lyrics and music well imo. But man the album has gems like Never There and Out For Blood. Can't wait to see it. Kind of disappointed to see the series coming to an end.

Hey dude, glad you enjoyed the video. Good to hear from you again. Funny you should call this an early March upload, when really it's a late February upload ha. I wanted to get it out on the 28th, but I didnt finish in time. But yeah after the last episode, I was looking forward to talking about I album I liked ha. I really enjoyed going revisiting some of these tracks. Order in Decline is gonna be an interesting episode to make. Because I haven't really listened to it in quite a while. So I'm interested to see if my opinion has changed after all this time. And yeah, it's weird to think this series is coming to end soon. Considering it's become part of my monthly routine for so long now. But all good (or in my case half decent ha) things must come to an end.

Great job! While I disagree on Twisted by Design (mainly because of my brother and knowing what he goes through and having that personal connection to it through him) I agree this album is pretty much perfect. Question, would you consider The Offspring next? They're pretty polarizing, but I notice a LOT of references to them in this series and I could point out some facts and stuff about each album to help you out! Particularly the fact that Walla Walla takes from a song Dexter wrote for The Vandals called Too Much Drama. Obviously with the song LAPD, it might be a tad hard to justify covering them, but if there's anyone I trust covering my favorite band OF ALL TIME, it's you.

Hey man, thanks for still watching and enjoying these videos. You mentioned in the SBM episode that Twisted by Design was your favourite song off this record. So while i was working on this episode, I remember thinking: "Man, that Sumspring dude is gonna be dissapointed about my opinion about Twisted by Design." ha. But I totally respect that it means something to you personally. While I do also love The Offspring, as they were one of the first punk bands I ever got into. And I appreciate your kind words, saying how you trust me covering your favourite band. I have no plans to do another retrospective series, at the very least, anytime soon. While I enjoy making these videos and I'm proud of the results, they're a lot of work. Especially putting them out on a monthly basis. In the format I have, properly going over a band's discography takes months. Case in point, I've been working on this Sum 41 retrospective series for nearly a year now. (June to March) After I finish this series, I'm actually planning on slowing my uploads for the rest of 2021. I'm still gonna be putting out videos, but they're not gonna be monthly. I'm gonna make an update video talking about this after this retrospective series is finished. If I ever decide to do another retrospective series, Maybe I'll consider doing the Offspring. But I can't make any promises.

@@andhedrewbees Twisted by Design is absolutely one of my favorites, but for this album in particular, that varies by day. I think the one that consistently stays my favorite is 13 Voices, although when I first heard the album, it was Breaking the Chain. I'm curious how you're gonna view the next album, though, because I can already hear you talking about how similar The New Sensation is to Muse, and 45 to No More Sorrow (I swear, Deryck must be the KING of coincidences if he isn't actually ripping off these melodies) Also The People Vs... kinda sounds like The Offspring? But that's just The Offspring fan in me connecting dots that probably aren't there.

Hello There🖐 We maybe have some different opinions on Screaming Bloody Murder, but this time i agree with most of what you've said. Except for some Bridge-Riffs (Fake my own Death & God Save us All). I love them. Playing Resident Evil 4 while listening to Fake my own Deaths Bridge is so much fun 😂....but thats a different Story ... You know me, i love to write long comments, so here we go (again)🤭: 1. Positive surprise: i was 100% sure you wouldnt like A Murder of Crows & There will be blood 😄 but i was wrong. 2. Short Story about my first time with 13 Voices: When i heard the Album for the first time i was extremly disappointed. I had huge expectations. I thought this would be the most emotional and Heavy Album for Sum 41, A Mix of Chuck & SBM, but it wasnt. sadly i thought the Album was overproduced. Too much filter in Derycks Voice, too many weird Computer Sounds (i still hate these weird squeaking sounds in the beginning of breaking the chain🤮) and Derycks singing just wasnt as strong anymore.... The Album had no surprises for me, except for the extremly awesome Bridge + Solo in There will be Blood & and the Screaming part in the Bonus Track Black Eyes. But times and opinions change. Now its my Favorite or second Favorite Sum 41 Album. The Top 3 changes all the Time. 3. I agree with you on Fake my own Death's sound, its really loud at times. But i never noticed it in 13 Voices. 4. I like The Fall & The Rise. Especially the Piano in the Background of the Rap verse sounds pretty awesome. And Derycks "Aaaah" backing vocals in the Chorus are great, they are getting louder with every Chorus, i love that. The Song reminds me on 'Back where i belong' for some reason. 5. For me Twisted by Design is the weaker Brother of Blood in my Eyes. Even the guitars in the Chorus have the same progression, the same tabs. It could have been Derycks biggest emotional track, but sadly he wasnt very creative with the Instrumentals. But there is something about this Song that makes it a stand out....maybe its just the awesome Name or the Lyrics, but even with its flaws i really like this Song. I love the part where he screams: "TO TAKE MY PAIN AWAY" i wanted more of that. 6. Its a Bonus Track, but i really like Black Eyes. The part where Deryck Screams is so awesome. I wish he would that more often in Songs. Thanks again for your hard work.👍 My prediction for Order in Decline: your favorite Song on the Album will be: The People Vs... 😄 and your least favorite will be Catching Fire.

Hey Ben, always great to hear from you. I'm glad that we could mostly agree on this record, seeing as we had vastly different opinions on Screaming Bloody Murder ha. I actually look forward to your long comments, so now I'll leave a long response comment of my own ha. 1. Based on the SBM episode, I can understand why you're suprised I like tracks like A Murder of Crows & There Will Be Blood. Maybe I give off the impression that I'm only into the punk side of Sum 41. But yeah those songs are great. For me, those tracks represent what I wish the majority of Screaming Bloody Murder would have sounded like. 2. I have a slighly opposite story with my first time with 13 Voices. - When I first heard the record, I was blown away by the aggression, the guitarwork, and the dramatic gothic sound. For a while I had liked it better than Chuck. But as the hype died down and after repeated listens, I went back to prefering Chuck. I started to notice the production/volume issues and that brought 13 Voices down a few points. That being said, I think 13 Voices is still a great record. In my overall ranking of the Sum 41 discography, It's in the upper half. 3. Thank God, somebody else noticed the volume issue with Fake My Own Death. I sware I thought I was the only one, cause I never saw anybody else mention it. So thanks for making me feel a little less insane ha. 4. I also like the bridge in The Fall and The Rise. But it's such a passable track to me. Especially 9 tracks into the records, It does nothing special or new to shake things up. 5. I'm really suprised you don't love Twisted by Design. Based on your love for Screaming Bloody Murder and that big epic sound, I was certain it would've been one of you're favourites from this record. Goes to show that even when you think you know a guy, they can still suprise you ha. But yeah I agree, It had the potential to be something really awesome, but it made for a weak closer. When he screams "TO TAKE MY PAIN AWAY", it always reminds of the song "Pain" by Jimmy Eat World. Both songs have the same lyric and they sing it with a near identical rhythm. Maybe I should have got the Plagarist Police on that case ha. 6. Eh, I'm not the biggest fan of Black Eyes. It's ok, but I don't think it should've been on the record. Thanks again for you're continued viewership Ben. You rock man.

@@andhedrewbees 3. Same. I also thought i was the only one who noticed it xd but i noticed it sounds only loud if you Listen to it on a sound system or headphone where the bass isnt that great. If you listen to it on your phone it really hurts your ears (good name for a new Song " Blood in my Ears") But on a 5.1 Surround System with good Bass it sounds better....it doesnt hurt anymore 😂 5. I really like Twisted by Design....atleast the Chorus and the ending part "in some ways i've changed....". And the Lyrics. But i wish it would have more variety, more Riffs, more of Derycks raw emotional Voice. Overall i think its a good closer.
