According to my text and lecture, virus is best describe as active or inactive rather than alive or dead. I am a bit confused when you refer the virus to non-living and living. Would the meaning be equivalent to active and inactive?

In Normal State Viruses Are Inactive But When They Find A Host A Living Body Such As Human Or Any Other Animals Then They Become Active And Starts Reproducing More Viruses..
