I actually love how they don't even walk around much on stage. They play their music, the thing everyone came for, and it's so amazing they don't need distractions or side shows to be fully engaging. It says a lot about their music in general, theres just so much to listen to.

@@orangedrone I mean that's your opinion, but this man is an absolute genius, holding it down for 2 virtuoso guitarists. And they've put out 2 timeless records that only get better with every listen. If you enjoy the old AAL that was more Djenty all to you. I however enjoy their last 2 records far more than their older stuff
@orangedrone

Andrew Sutton But, that’s kinda a separate point from the drumming. I guess the only way to ever know would be to hear an older AAS drummer’s take on the newer material. Which would never happen. I’m a drummer and stopped listening to AAS after Matt joined. Can’t really tell you why. I recognize that he’s technically super good, just doesn’t do anything for me.

Yes and it's awful...they proove that algebra is not music, just brain masturbation...no groove, no feeling, no spirit, just complexity. Sad, so much efforts and training for such a pathetic result. Sorry I don't get it.

@@fredtrax4574 I can see what you mean...when I first heard them I didn't get it at all, it just sounded like complex noise...but eventually something clicked at some point and then I couldn't stop listening to them for some reason. There really is a ton of feeling in this music I've found, it's just not the kind of feeling with the "grooves that we're used to". I think when we hear a song, we often quickly develop of sense of what we think it should play out like based on what we've heard so far and what we've heard in the past and when it doesn't wind up in the place we expect, we dislike it. I've found with AAL, if you allow yourself to "turn off your expected sense of rhythm for what you're hearing" and allow their sense time/rhythm/space to take you on their journey, it can really take you somewhere else because they are really doing things not many musicians are doing and furthering the art is what it's all about! Enjoy music!! :D
@fredtrax4574
@fredtrax4574 4 жыл бұрын
@@zer0dave Yes I agree with you, I understand well the "get out of our confort zone" concept, I applied it many times during my 40 years of "music exploration" (I'm 50 now, started with my elder brother records when I was 10 in the early 80's, never stop since, I'm addict to music, really) I'm a drummer, studied in a drum school, where I met "math" musicians. I understand that music is an open field, you can play what/as you want, you can enjoy what you want. I "forced my ears"(?) so I was able to appreciate music I was not prepared for, and found satisfaction, feeling my mind opening so yes, my comment was a bit provocative. I really enjoy when I can tap my foot or move my head or clap my fingers when I listen to music...for example Tool is quite complex and still " groovy", you can tap your foot. Something is linked with our heartbeat, very simple, repetitive, danceable..."Arithmophobia" is talking to the brain, it's a very mental song. It's an intellectual process which make us learn and play complex things...and I'm ok with it. Well it's an endless(and useless) debat, sorry for that, the main point is "It takes/needs all kinds to make a world." I will listen to AAL a bit more. Cheers

@UnbelievableRANTLERS
@UnbelievableRANTLERS 4 жыл бұрын
I think he's basically using it as a power amp for stage volume. If you look at different tour footage over the years you'll see him with Dual Rectifiers or Marshalls sometimes - especially overseas. You can still see a digital pedalboard unit in front of him (more easily in other tunes from this show), which I presumed was a Fractal, but I see some comments think he switch to Line 6's Helix; that would be an interesting switch in its own right, I suppose. He used a Morgan with a mostly (or all?) analogue pedalboard beginning with this album, but there could be many reasons for not using all that stuff here. Anyway, yeah, I just looked at the description and it says "Backline provided by Hudson Audio Works", so it's rented equipment.

Effectively AAL turned the bit at the start of band practice where everyone just plays whatever the f**k want at the same time .... into a touring band.

If you are a purist rock and roll guy or a Metalhead. This sound that they're making out of the guitar would irritate the F out of you! It's like they're driving with their feet alternating on the gas and the brake at the same time. This is the Trap version of hard rock metal music.🤘I like !✊👏👏👏
