Hey there! I'm excited to share this week's cottage garden vlog with you. I've been busy refreshing my containers and pots with vibrant Summer colours - think bright oranges and terracotta shades.
But that's not all - I also cleared out one of my raised beds to make room for gorgeous cut flowers. I planted Zinnias I grew from seed, along with some cosmos and dahlias. And, of course, I couldn't forget to cut back my daffodil foliage!
Tune in to see what else is growing in my garden.
Oh, and by the way, the native Irish wildflower seeds I used are from connectingtonature.ie - I can't wait to see how they grow!
Order my first book now:
Carving time out of our hectic, plugged-in lives to play and create can bring stillness and satisfaction. The projects in my book are for everyone, so take a break from the world, reignite your creative spark and make your home a little bit more beautiful!
In my book, I share over fifty of my favourite projects, from upcycling, crafting, sewing, painting and gardening, many of which take unloved items and make them shine again.

We here in Michigan in the U.S. went a month with no rain. Then 3 days of downpours! I have several 30 gallon barrels that I filled with rain. Now another 2 weeks of no rain so it's coming in handy. More rain coming starting Friday for a few days and will be collecting it again. My flower and veg gardens are behind due to the never-ending winter we had, followed by a hungry groundhog, and now a hot, dry period. Oh well, the joys of gardening. I loved hearing the sounds of rain and birds in your video. The mirrors look lovely.

We are suffering a mild drought here in Midwest USA. I have two rain barrels and they have been a God-send! I highly recommend catching the rainwater. Plants are happier with that water as well versus the tap…who knows what is in that water!!😅. Love your (and miss Karen’s) garden video’s 😊

I’m in California and tap water contains chlorine and plants do better without it. Even if you water by filling up a watering can and let it sit for ten minutes the chlorine will evaporate so that’s better than directly spraying the plants. But absolutely rain is best. ❤

Oh how lovely your gardens are looking ❤. I have four rain barrels; three are attached to my downspouts on my tiny cottage, so I get the run off from my roof (no more muddy areas!) Catherine what about taking the mirrors into your shed ? living in the northern climates I generally took all my decorative elements and covered all the furniture. Only way it kept it all in great shape for most things we owned for 25 years. Now in the desert and urban living in bad health I grow minimal things that work. I miss green flowers and acreage so thank you for sharing yours. I see your pile of lovely compost you are digging up 😘God bless

The mirror looks ok but if it doesn’t wear well what about mirror tiles ? may work out cheaper than a mirror and easier to cut to shape with a glass cutter. I’m in rural north Cornwall and the rain keeps passing us buy , the rest of the UK seems to be getting heavy downpours and apart from a couple hours of very light misty rain , not a drop. I loved the bit where it rained on your video just listening to the pattering of rain , not heard that for 6 weeks, gardeners are never happy though😂😂❤️

Here in Tx, we’re having a brutal heat wave with temps consistently 105-108 degrees F and very little rain. Ppl and plants alike r suffering, but I feel like drip irrigation has saved my plants. My roses r all doing great as is my veggie garden, but also have lost a few plants to the heat. I do, however, have a Mama Robin that hatched her four little precious babies yesterday in one of my ferns. We have put up a trail camera to catch the activity w/o disturbing Mama and her babies. Can’t wait to watch the footage back! First time ever that I’ve had a Robin make a nest and hatch her babies, and I’m going to attribute it to the fact that I’ve been redoing my gardens for the last two yrs adding more and more different plants and trees as I learn more about gardening. Seeing the pollinators and life in the garden becoming more and more prolific and diverse has been a huge bonus to gardening! Tyfs ur gardens with us, Catherine! Ur a huge inspiration to us all! 🌸💐

I have had some beautiful roses already and I’ve been good with deadheading and now I have a second flush of buds. I’ve also been picking sweet peas for several weeks - but I’m disappointed that the stems are really short. Yours look really long. We had some rain yesterday afternoon and overnight and today rain for about 2 hours. I got myself prepared with Waterbury’s. We now have 3 210L and 1 110L butts but once you start full summer watering they won’t last long. I water in the morning every 2 to 3 days. Today I have potted on 104 cherry tomato seedlings that I grew from squishing 2 tomatoes into compost and letting them grow. Obviously I will be giving most of them to friends and neighbours. I live in SE England so, sorry I can’t share some with you😢. Your garden is looking great, lots of colour.

I love those barrels Catherine your garden looks gorgeous I really enjoy mine even tho it’s hard work it’s all trial and error 😊do you use your hose to water your plants or a watering can ? Thanks

I use both, hose for the beds, and the can is great when you need to pour liquid feed into pots x

Do you plant new plants all through summer.

I try not to plant too much in Summer as they need a lot of water to help establish, but I do some pots or maybe ad one or two

Good work on the vinyl vs mirrored glass, looks good. Garden is buzzing with life. Looking forward to hearing how the telly/tv appearance went....hope you had a great time and that your slot was not shortened!

Aw thanks Patricia, I forgot to update about the telly, but I did pin a link on last weeks Sunday garden video to watch it, I pinned it to the comment section x

The mirror frames look great and it's better than worrying about broken glass. It gives the effect you wanted and it's safer. The reflections are nice and hopefully the rain won't ruin them. Well done! All that soil! Lol you got work to do!

RAIN .. Can you send it my way? I collect water but it is already gone. We had 5 minutes of rain today (about 7 drops 😅). So the barrels are still very empty. My roses are blooming at the moment. Your front garden bed is so beautiful - I love it! And all those barrels - it will be amazing! Love from Germany 🤗

Hi Catherine , always look forward to your videos, both gardening and craft ones( even tho I’m hopeless at crafts), you are so inspirational. I too was reading about watering your garden less. Apparently watering sparingly makes plants produce stronger roots, that will seek out water going deeper in the soil.

Aw nice, thanks for sharing, that's what I was trying to say but my brain wasn't working LOL, Iv definitely noticed this year, they are a bit more tolerant to less water x

Lovely looking garden. When I have soil delivered the company asks that I mark where I want it in my driveway with an 'X', works every time. I'll be working on my garden clean up over the next few days: my peonies are done blooming.

Garden is beautiful. Love hearing the rain on your umbrella. Everything tidy. Pots are so pretty. Can't wait for your "barrel garden". Enjoy your week.
