Summer Job at Glacier National Park

Working for Xanterra at Glacier National Park in the Rising Sun Camp Store. Its super fun in one of the grandest parks in North America =)

Hi! I had your job at RS Camp Store during the 1970 and ‘71 summers. I was just out of U of Minnesota with a Electrical Engineering degree and was eligible to be drafted but was able to delay entry into USNavy until the fall. The building you’re staying was called Rat Haven in those days and is configured almost identically as you show now. I remember our bi-weekly paycheck was about $32…. After withholding room and board. We could not bring our car… we hitch hiked all over the park. We worked 6 days a week. Camp store looks pretty much the same. Showers in the back et al. Thanks for this. I've been doing my research and whatnot about vanlife, and everything that comes along with it... BUT, your channel shows a little bit of a different type of content, which I highly appreciate. First and foremost, you're an asian guy that is MY AGE. One of my biggest things stopping me from starting the van life is that I have a job I cannot leave, mainly because I make great money, and that in itself is necessary to pay for my monthly payments on my van. THIS VIDEO here exposed me to the option of maybe quitting my job and picking up a summer job at a national park. I didn't even think about that, nor how it should open doors to stay at other parks during other seasons! What a great idea! Also, you showed a lot of different things that other channels don't ever show. For example, the food as an employee, the living quarters, the option of living out of your own rig instead of the actual quarters; those kind of things. Also, I've noticed you used to be a motorcycle channel. The funny thing about that is that I'm actually planning on taking motorcycle classes at some point because I do want to buy a Honda Minimoto in the next couple years (dependent on how life goes of course) and possibly bring my Minimoto with me during travels, but we'll see about that. I do have my WRX still, *Subie waves at you, even though you no longer have the BRZ* But yeah, new follower here, I'm excited to follow along your travels and to see what kind of content your channel holds in the future. Dont trip girl. Youll be the cool california girl. Not many people are from CA normally! No they provide all transpo to and from at the start and end of your contract and within the park you can shuttle or others will have cars

What is RV life like for workers in Glacier NP? I’m researching to work in Glacier as a driver of some sort. I have my RV, a Northwoods Arctic Fox 22G. I toured the park in 2019 for a month. Do you recommend any driver jobs? Great video; travel safely.

The only one i can think of is the trash truck. There are RV sites for employees, a couple of them depending on what area of the park you work at. Check the xanterra page

If your still looking into a driver job for GNP? There’s tons of companies that contract with the park providing shuttle services, and services in between the non-gov businesses. A few off the top my head are LC Staffing out of Kalispell and Pursuit Collection that have driver jobs for GNP every summer. Now NPS does have driver jobs but they require specialized skills, certifications and experience as required by the gov for most driver positions. If you have a CDL A/B with certain endorsements and experience in Garbage Collection, Road Construction, Equipment Operator, Combination Truck Driving experience then NPS often has a Motor Vehicle Operator position for GNP from time to time though it’s a Gov job.

Also for got to mention that GNP also has a high concentration of grizzly bears 2nd to YNP which is #1 for grizzly population. Having worked under Bear Management for MT Fish&Wildlife and the neighboring Tribal Reservation. Yeh it would be wise to be inside a cab driving 😂 given that there’s somewhere between 1000 to 900 grizzlies in GNP
