Summer Mushroom Hunting in Spruce and Birch Forest - Orange Birch Bolete | Scarletina Bolete | Fungi

This mushroom hunting video was recorded on 25th June 2023 in Czechia, Europe. It shows early summer mushrooms growing under spruces and birches. I'm picking Orange birch boletes (Leccinum versipelle) and also show several Scarletina boletes (Neoboletus luridiformis).

I am so shocked at how healthy the birch boletes are compared to the ceps!

It always depends where and when, you need to be lucky for both. But in general I think that scaber stalks get less worms than ceps.

Binge watching your video from past weeks! Hello from Indonesia! Mushroom foraging seems a bit hard in this country. Scleroderma citrinum is the only mushroom I know that pretty much edible & delicious in my village. 😊

Hello. Interesting to hear about the Scleroderma. Here it is considered to be poisonous, but small amounts should be ok. So it's recommended to use it just as spice in dishes. However, it can be different in other countries :)

does the scarulatina bolete taste good? I heard that it taste quite good! :)

They are quite good, many people here like them a lot. Compared to porcini they need longer cooking to be safe to eat. And they are usually more firm with smaller chance to be wormy :)

I wander now how do you avoid mosquitoes in the woods? I recently went on a bike ride in a forest in Romania and the mosquitoes bit me so bad that my skin got bruised.

Depends on the forest. Some are full of mosquitos, some full of ticks, some full of deer keds on top of these two... And it's very difficult especially during hot summer days when you cannot have much of clothes for protecting your skin. Sometimes I use repelents, but they don't always work, so mostly I suffer the mosquito bites. In my opinion ticks are the most dangerous, so I try to really not catch them.
