A guy who lives nearby in Northern California went to observe the flush in a neighboring county. In one spot he found 52lbs! Boletus edulis var. grandedulis or California King. Absolutely insane. We haven't had any rain but we're looking towards some early next week. The flush in my county was around a month earlier last year but de to drought we haven't had any. Hopefully when the rain comes so will the mushies. Awesome video, it's exciting to watch you out hunting and definitely makes me excited for the season.

ahoy Luke. I love watching you forage. I have been trying but all the leaves cover the ground now in northern Ontario. is it too late to find bolets?
@LukesMushrooms2 жыл бұрын
Hi. If the temperatures don't get below the freezing point, it could still be good for mushrooms. Just finding them is much more difficult. It's starting to get similar here.
@Flippokid2 жыл бұрын
Bay boletes are found in pine forests, they like moss and some sunlight. You can try there. Although I also found a lot of boletes including porcini yesterday in leaf covered ground. They were well camouflaged, so it takes a practiced eye, but they will pop out of the leaves.

Are there no morels in your area? Nor hen/chicken of the woods?
@LukesMushrooms2 жыл бұрын
There are. Morels grow in spring (March - May) and chicken of the woods can be sometimes found after that. You can check some of my older videos, but I don't have good morel spots yet.

Seems that mushrooms in your place is available all year round? Except winter?
@LukesMushrooms2 жыл бұрын
There are even some winter mushrooms like oyster mushrooms or velvet shanks, but under snow they are difficult to find. So yes in theory we have mushrooms all year round but the serious season is usually end of summer and autumn. Seems like the peak is now.

It'll be great if you can say if the mushrooms are poisonous when you come across them. I assume you did as you didn't pick them, right?

Thanks for the comment. I don't always say that. Sometimes yes but I don't want to repeat the same information in each video.

What do you do with the mushrooms?
@LukesMushrooms2 жыл бұрын
Usually I dehydrate them and then give to my relatives or friends. And sometimes I give them fresh to random people who I meet in the forest, if they like mushrooms but had less luck than me.

I thought Scarletina Boletes weren't edible...especially raw?
@LukesMushrooms2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you need to cook them properly (at least 15-20 minutes of boiling, for example). Otherwise they may cause stomach issues.

Been to 3 of my spots in uk and all three only did one flush, they are not producing anymore. Us this normal? I thought they would produce until first frost?
@LukesMushrooms2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I don't dare to say what's normal with mushrooms :) It probably depends on many various factors.
@real_wakawaka2 жыл бұрын
@@LukesMushrooms but in your experience does the same area keep reproducing porcini up until frost?
@LukesMushrooms2 жыл бұрын
Basically yes, especially under leaves in oak / beech forests. But it also depends of how much rain there was - for example 2 years ago I found frozen ceps even in December. But last year there were basically none after September because it was very dry.
@colinyoung36852 жыл бұрын
I've been having decent luck in my neck of the woods (so to speak). I've seen two separate flushes in the same area this year. Though there has been a bit of a lull this week.

aren't you supposed to cut the body of the mushroom and leave the roots on the ground?
@LukesMushrooms2 жыл бұрын
People believed that some time ago, but it turned out to have no impact. Nowadays it is recommended to pull the whole mushroom out and cover the hole. There are several reasons for that.
