I bought the same tool and had some struggles but got it to work pretty good in the end. My method was sticking the line about 1/16 to 1/8 sticking out over the top of the scissor vice. I also filed my line end smooth before flaring. I think the larger flare on the Harbor freight vice are for a 45 degree flare.

They must have changed their supplier somewhere along the line as I bought this tool (exactly the same part number) over 10 years ago and it works great, have done heaps of lines with it. The flare section of the tube clamp looks like the HF one with regards to the depth of the flare. So, if you can find an old one second hand it might still be worth grabbing.

I plan on shortening my Crown vic fuel lines and flaring them a little and just putting some FI hose and clamps on it for now. AN fittings and fuel cell down the road though. Im over the 2 year mark and just wanna hear it run at this point. LoL

LOL -- nice review. I have a rigid 377 now, but I tried the Summit one and had the exact same reaction - It is garbage. People will spend money on quality products - I don't know why Summit is putting there name on stuff like that! I makes the Summit brand products that do work well in trust-worthy.
