The thing I like most about your videos (and I have watched a fair few 😉)..is the message that you don’t need the most expensive gear to enjoy the Moor (or anywhere else for that matter). I’ve walked on Dartmoor since I was a kid and have seen such a transformation in hiking/camping equipment over the years that most people’s wages can’t keep up with. I also like the fact that you lads don’t profess to be experts and that it’s all about the sheer love of being outdoors and I think that’s the appeal of your videos...compulsive viewing for me...keep it up👍🏻

Yep, that's definitely my motto - I can't afford all the expensive gear, but it doesn't stop me getting out there and enjoying it. Thanks for watching, and really glad that you enjoy the videos All the best!

Hi Trev, My tip for a warm night when camping..... Cura-Heat 24hr pain relief patches. Like hot-hands but bigger and sticky on one side. I stick one on my t-shirt over my chest and that takes care of your core temperature all night. If it's a realy cold night and i'm struggling to get comfy in my bag i'll stick another patch on my t-shirt over my lower back and that takes care of the kidney area. With two patches on and a lixada reflective emergency bivvy over my Aegis Max sleeping bag i stay warm all through the night and keep weight down by not needing so many layers. Don't stick them on bare skin though, and don't shake them when you open them, they won't work as well. Try these tips and thank me later squire ;-) Peace.

Nice solo wild camp trev, the nights are very long this time of year when stuck inside a tent for about 13 hours of darkness and plenty of layers to keep you warm plus a copy of Dartmoor legends to wile away the hours, when a song is stuck inside your head like shaky its known as an Ear worm, its there for days, All The Best For 2019, Take Care, Les.
@SummitOrNothing6 жыл бұрын
Haha! Yeah, I am quite aware of earworms, but as I said, I have mastered this technique that has always worked, to skip forward to the end of the song, picture hearing that and voila! ... until Shaky Bloody Stevens with his repetitive Christmas song. The ending is also the beginning isn't it. My brain wouldn't let it go! Haha.. I began to feel like Joe Simpson in touching the void lol. Happy New Year, Les, and thanks for watching! Atb - Trev!

Just found this channel searching for videos about my tent, Naturhike Cloud Up 2. Nice too see someone putting the tent to test the elements. I've been fortunate to only try it out in fair conditions so far. I mainly use it for bicycle touring. And some hiking now and then. So, 300+ videos huh? Well, the weekend is saved! I'm subscribed.
@SummitOrNothing6 жыл бұрын
Yea the Naturehike is a great little tent and I've heard from one or two others that it's a great tent for cycling. I've been enjoying taking it out on the moors in all weather, I like to put it through its paces. Thanks for watching and subbing, I hope that you enjoy what you find. Feel free to comment whenever you like it's great to hear people's feedback and own preferences regarding the outdoors.

Just stumbled across your channel by chance last night. Ended up watching until 2am. Love the banter. Being a keen walker and road runner I’ve recently transitioned from roads to trail running (the old knees can’t cope with tarmac anymore) either on Dartmoor or Woodbury Common. I’m hooked now, can’t wait for each weekend to get back out there in the wind, rain and mud. Ive also been toying with the idea of wild camping (even more now I’ve seen your videos) just need to get a tent/tarp. You never know, our paths might cross out on Dartmoor.

Hahaha! Thats brilliant - really glad that you have managed to find us and that you enjoy the videos. I know what you mean about tarmac, whenever I do a lot of road walking it plays havoc on my feet (see my Fremington Coast Walk) so can only imagine what running would be like! Well all the best for your own adventures, keep us posted with how you get on and .feel free to comment on any videos as you watch them. Always good to hear from our viewers! All the best! Trev!

It's good to see the Naturehike being put through it's paces. I note you sleep with your head away from the door, is this a personal preference? It's just that I was taught to sleep with head by door for emergency quick exit and with the height of the naturehike at it's greatest by the door it would suggest it was for that purpose to ease exit quickly. Maybe it's just me but I always do that now irrespective of which tent I'm in. As I have been working all over Christmas I'm looking forward to Getting hammered on JD honey Old yrs night which I also find a soothing nightcap when camping. So with that in mind I toast you and Nath, good health for 2019 and more adventures. Cheers lads

Good on ya trev, didn't look to bitter out there that night. Only thing I can recommend to ya for lowering your pack weight is get a 40 litre bag. I got a karimor where the back of the bag opens up completely. I added a hip strap and sternum strap from the army surplus store and I've never looked back. It only weighs 500g compared to my 75 litre pack which comes in at 2.1kg. Anyway happy 2019 bud.
@SummitOrNothing6 жыл бұрын
Mine is a 50ltr sack, and I must admit that I would probably struggle in a 40ltr until I reduce some of my gear, my sleeping bag would take up up nearly half of a 40 I'd dare say. And what else I realise that I didnt show in the vid was my camera bag in the backpack too - thats a fair old size to keep two cameras and a collection of batteries... but I will look to completely reducing all by this time next year - although its not my new years resolution lol. Happy New Year to you too and thanks for watching!
@utop006 жыл бұрын
@@SummitOrNothing yeah after I posted I thought about your camera gear. That's a bugger ain't it but no way around it for you. Maybe downsizing some of your bulkier gear your sleeping bag is huge lol and I know you love your jet boil but it's a big ole thing to carry. My main point about the bag was I have no frame in it which is where the weight is, 50 years ago you needed it cause your pack was 20 kg plus, but I think with a pack under 10kg you don't need a frame for support.
@SummitOrNothing6 жыл бұрын
@@utop00 Yep. The cameras are actually another thing I need to downsize. Considering an action can but I won't be able to get as good composition in my shots as they lack a zoom. Something else to consider though. And there is no frame in my pack either. It's actually a lightweight pack I think nearly 700gs lighter than my old vango pack! I’ve heard mixed reviews about this tent on KZbin. What’s your overall verdict? Great vids btw.

I love this tent - I have loads of videos of this tent out on the trail if you havent seen them already - its my favourite budget tent from my collection.
@jamesperkins56324 жыл бұрын
@@SummitOrNothing that's great. It does seem good. They do a cycling tent that's essentially the same tent but with a side entrance and decent vestibule space.

Hi there, thanks for sharing. Could I ask, I know it’s a Fjallraven hat you have on in this video but what’s the name/type of hat, cheers. ATB Ant.
@SummitOrNothing6 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you know more about the hat than I do. It was actually my son's Christmas present one year that he never wore so I pinched it as my own. The label says it's a Barts Oscar Beanie... if that's any help to you.

Nice one Trev, I can recommend a down bag ,had my last one 20 years it just lost feathers so still ok for summer bag, went a bit mad and got a 900 fill one ,I feel the cold myself but not been cold since got it. Bit of an outlay but long term investment. Cracking vids , hope you have a great new year all best Will🍻

I have a summer down, but not forked out for a winter one as of yet. Maybe what I need. Thanks for watching, and happy new year to you. Atb Trev!

Looking to get this tent, was going to get the Alpkit Soloist which is similar price but more for 1 person, Alpkit currently out of stock of soloist. So it’s worked well for you this one? I’m doing the C2C in the spring so getting a new tent for that.
@SummitOrNothing4 жыл бұрын
This tent has been brilliant - and as far as I can see is identical to the Alpkit Soloist. I shall have to check that tent out myself and compare the two.... just for shits and giggles. My wife will be pleased. Another tent! hahha

Summit Or Nothing is there much difference between the 210T and the newer version? 210T is £105 on Amazon vs the newer one at £135. Thanks

Stay Warm tip: this requires two purchases. 1# Outdoor Vitals 20 deg synthetic bag super lightweight and very small - no joke it works 2# a Reflective tarp- also lightweight. Every bag we carry has one .You should be able to ditch the bulky therma rest pad. We love winter camping.

Can you guys review the Hyke & Byke Yosemite 2P Lightweight/Backpacking tent? It's similar to the Naturehike and would like to see how they compare.

When full moon over Dartmoor... ...don't go outside, the locals said! ...barricade doors and windows, the locals said! ... you and your beloved should stay close to the fireplace, the locals said! When the full moon shines bright over Dartmoor, something is roaming through the moor! Up and down the hills, from tor to tor! The locals said! An sometimes you can hear a cry, echoing from the stony top of a hill .... "Summit or nothing!" 🌕🏞🏕🧟♂
