As you have amply established that Sri Lanka played the role of trade hub between East and West. Before invent of Monsoon, sea trade was carried out in brown water sail. Before blue water sail Sri Lanka was played a bigger role in international trade. If I remember right Ruhunu dynasties used two fish in two directions that shows their significance in international trade. Traded goods came to East coast went out through Mathota. From Mathota goods shipped to Gujarat and Modern Karachchi ports. Then these goods found its Way through Karakorum to Middle East and West. This is the present China Hambatota, Karachchi, Karakorum sea and land route China is developing today.. Inland and trade superiority and wealth tied to it could not be accrued without capturing Matota. This is well proved by the fact that the economic boom during King Gamini Abhyaya's time that led to the construction of massive structures. Building of trade relations created the to invite international crowd, Maha Sanga even from Alexandria which was trade hub of central Asia of Indo Greeks. king Gamini's battle was in a way for trade supremacy. He thought treating Elara after death is important to win over the goodwill of international traders and trading communies which is so important to the success of international trade. Prent day rulers failed in this aspect after 30 year war.

I was unable to find more details on the web. I hope you will be able to let me know some details. 1.Why is the Balangoda man is classified as a subspecies ie. Homo sapiens balangodensis ? 2. What was the main reason to classify as a subspecies? 3.What are the skull features that led to this classification? Also, how many fossils there are in Sri Lanka that come under this classification.? Are these from the same time range ? and what are the excavation locations?. 4. Are the fossils on display for the public and how can you get more details of these excavations? Google search didn't provide details of excavations in SL of Balangoda Man except for few. These were not that helpful to understand the full picture. 5. Also, have we ever attempted a DNA of the Balangoda Man fossil. If so ,I would like to know if the Neanderthal and Denisovan genome is found in these fossil findings. Do Sri Lankans have Neanderthal and Denisovan genome in their DNA? and If so, what is the percentage.? Did the Modern man arrive in Sri Lanka before interbreeding with Neanderthals?
