Sunday Special Trains at Scarborough - 19/05/2019

Filmed on 19/05/2019. A Sunday special which begins all changes across the railway network also of new trains introduced as well as additional services.
On a rather foggy Sunday at Scarborough, the rare sight first is 222001 which is being used on driver training duties between York and Scarborough then returning to York Sidings (Holgate) East Midlands Trains will introduce their daily weekly Saturday service from London ST Pancras International to Scarborough via Leicester & Sheffield.
The recent engineering works completed on Yorkshire Coast Route has now prevented gauging issues. Now, Northern Railway class 170 Turbostar units are now operating services between Scarborough to Hull & Sheffield via Yorkshire Coast. Also, trains are now running hourly everyday to Hull & additional services to Sheffield as well.
Transpennine Express has also made some changes of a train which terminates at Scarborough which is either platform 2 or 3 and will await an hour for its return trip to Liverpool Lime Street. This is to prevent any delays or late running to trains.
In July, Transpennine Express will introduce the Nova 3 sets which are a rake of MK5 coaches and a class 68 loco. Class 68's are currently on driver training duties between York and Scarborough.

Yes, East Midlands Railway does still operate a daily Saturday only service between London ST Pancras and Scarborough (Summer Timetable Only) For the moment Transpennine Express are the only train operator serving Malton. Northern did do route learning between York and Scarborough last year so hoping they will still carry on with it when things improve. Northern has taken quite a few 170's from ScotRail with some for East Midlands Railway. But, majority of 170's are will ScotRail.

They only run Summer Saturdays only to and from London ST Pancras International. With Covid19, EMR suspended that service.

I understand your feelings. But, ScotRail still has plenty of 170's available. Also and think on the bright side of the future for ScotRail as they invested into ex GWR HST's. Northern will be saying goodbye to the Pacer trains very soon which I can imagine will have mixed emotions on that. GWR also feeling their emotions with their farewell to the HST's as they started their life on GWR network.

That's true in some way. Like LNER, their 225 sets are going off lease and will be destined for Transport For Wales local hauled services. Northern Railway: (ex ScotRail class 156's, 158's & 170's. Ex GWR Class 150's) Abellio ScotRail: (Ex GWR HST sets) Transport For Wales: (Planning to have class 144 Pacers & additional class 153's) Hull Trains: (GWR HST set on long term loan)

Normally East Midlands Railway do for Summer timetable. But, they didn't work the service in 2020 with current situation.

Yep, it was and now Northern. This is during the time when quite a few ex ScotRail 170's were transferred across to Northern. Some had been refurbished and some were put into service after driver training/testing.

Spot on Matt. Yes, its former ScotRail 170 which now operates on Scarborough to Hull line. Soon enough, the 170's will head for Crewe where they will be fully refurbished into the new Northern Railway livery.
