I was on the deep end trying to search for a small subwoofer for my bedroom audio setup (desktop user) and I just so happened to stumble on a local seller and took the bait. It is the best money I've spent. I love this subwoofer, it's so small but packs an amazing punch. I have it placed perfectly in my room where the entire space will reverberate if I even turn the bass level dial more than 15%. If you can still find a pristine condition of the Super Junior, take the bite and go for it, you won't be disappointed. This would work in a larger open space home theater setup without issue.

The best things about this subwoofer - having 2 of them are small, and could be added to any room. Having Stereo subwoofers is something many folks really like, and this is a practical way to add that to a small room. Adding a wireless option to this, so they're easy to place even in rooms that don't allow for wiring, would be great. I know those options exist, and would love to see you review them!

Wow! For a 7” sub that’s amazing! 22hz! Amazing small beast! 1500 watts.... little big ass sub! What a great idea for space saving. I never knew there was something like this. Very cool!!!🤟👍👍

That 22hz rating is probably a little optimistic in most rooms but it sure is a powerful little sub. I live in the Seattle area and these Sunfire subs were produced just north of me for many years. They pop up on our local 2nd hand markets quite regularly. They are very impressive for their size, that’s for sure!

Average Guy Hi-Fi ya even if it’s high 20’s it’s still very good. One thing I was wondering is, how tight and clean are they? Are they a bit on the muddy side and better for movies then music? I’m a music lover so I care more about speed and accuracy then just heavy bloated bass. Either way they are still very cool little subs. 👍😊

Awesome reviews and channel! I picked up a super junior up for $33 at a garage sale. It was a little worn but I have been running it now for a few years alongside an older velodyne and I love it. I also just picked up a Sunfire HRS-10 for $40 on Craigslist. Amp is blown but after watching your review of the HRS-12 I figure it’s worth fixing.

I had a Carver True Subwoofer 10inch in 97?? Cost me a grand brand new from a local dealer here in Tucson...It had Bob Carvers signature on the back..A few months later I needed money I pawned it at the pawn shop for a hundred dollars..was four days late in taking it out asked the worker if I could take it out he said it was already sold..I messed up big time for sure..maybe one of the workers bought it themselves but I still miss that little beast 😔

The benefit of its size is that one should be able to easily place 2 of them in a room. Used Sunfire Juniors, Velodyne SPL/Minivees are commonly sold used for less than $300. You should look into infinite baffle subwoofers, where the owner uses their basement or attic as the enclosure for the woofer. As long as you own your home, and willing to cut into your floor, infinite baffle designs offer world class bass performance, for under $1000. As someone who use to sell the Krell Master Reference Subwoofer and Paradigm's Signature SUB2, the most intense subwoofer setup I've experienced was my co-workers infinite baffle subwoofer that he built for around $1500.
@blazermdx4 жыл бұрын
Infinite Baffle subwoofers have always intrigued me. From what I’ve gathered, you can have some pretty amazing performance, with relatively little woodworking abilities and within a restrictive budget. If I ever buy a house with a dedicated room, it would be pretty awesome to incorporate some infinite baffle subs in a closet or the ceiling. Thanks for taking the time to comment, I truly appreciate it!

Great review; I've usually kept away from these tiny subs, assuming poor/weak bass response, but this is very interesting to know. Given its size, it surely has its benefits for certain rooms. Another small sub that I've appreciated is the wireless sub included with the Polk Audio Magnifi Mini soundbar. For convenient placement, and just having bass in a soundbar sorta setup that was nice. And while I would never consider that for my home theater, for a secondary TV, or an office room, it was great.
@blazermdx4 жыл бұрын
The UV Crew There’s no doubt about it, bigger subs produce more bass. I just think that many people underestimate the performance a well designed, compact sub can actually achieve. For folks like me, I can’t get away with dual ported 18” subs so compromises are needed. One day, I’ll be able to fit in big subs, but until then, I’ll be using little subs. These are just amazing, for their size:)

Sunfire recommends placing their sub in the corner for best performance.
@blazermdx Жыл бұрын
Correct! Most sub manufacturers, especially when dealing with smaller subs, recommend loading them in corners for additional room gain. Doesn’t work for every sub or room but it’s definitely worth discussing. Excellent point!

I think dual active bass elements is better than one passive and one active in a sub then.
@blazermdx4 жыл бұрын
I would probably agree with you! Especially with the big companies like PSA, Rythmik and JTR’s dual active sub offerings. They seem to be top performers and you can keep the box volume down and have more output. Thanks again for the activity on my little channel, I really do appreciate it. I’ll keep a lookout for dual-active subs, so I can share my impressions with you. Cheers, my friend!
@chewsir4 жыл бұрын
That depends on the goal. Bob Carver designed Sunfire to produce a lot of deep bass ins a tiny package and adding an addition active driver would require twice the amount of room as a single driver as well as power. The passive radiator take the place of a port which would require a very long and very wide diameter to properly tune the enclosure and active driver.

I only have one sub with a passive radiator (dual passive radiators in fact) and it's the biggest, heaviest sub I own, yet it's bass isn't as deep as any of my other subs so i'm definitely not sold on the idea of passive radiators the way you are but then maybe the Edifier S730 was just poorly designed
@blazermdx3 жыл бұрын
I have limited experience with Edifer just but I have heard them briefly once. I felt they were slightly bloated sounding, and slightly soft when compared to the higher end passive radiator subs I’ve owned like GoldenEar, Sunfire, Definitive Technology etc,. That’s to be expected though as the price difference is massive. There’s just something my ears like with passive subs. The word punchy comes to mind. But the best subs in the world don’t use passive radiators so they definitely aren’t end-game equipment for many. Passive subs are incredibly hard to beat for their size. Thanks for stopping by again!

Free is the best price, well done! Are you using a receiver to power the passive sub? What are the other speakers in your system and how are they connected? I use a receiver so I use a subwoofer cable from the sub out on my receiver to the LFE or sub in input on the sub.

@@blazermdxit definitely is. i plugged it in last night, and sadly, it makes a loud buzzing noise. I researched and its probably the capacitors that are shot. How close does your Sunfire true junior get to the Super Junior? Would you say it's worth holding out for the Super Junior or are they close enough to the same?
@blazermdx4 жыл бұрын
There’s no doubt that the Super has more power but the “regular” version is no slouch. A funny story, the gentleman that I bought them off didn’t even know that he owned two different versions. That’s how close they look and sound. To me, it would come down to room size, what your using it for and how loud you listen. The beefier woofer and more powerful amp would be a worthwhile investment, if you have high demands. The other thing is, that these don’t pop up all that often in my local market and the Super is more rare, so you might be waiting a little longer for it. Any reason you’ve narrowed it down to these two? Cabinet size?

@@blazermdx I don’t mind the shipping cost due to weight. Where (links) should I look for such a sub? Most of the used ones have the rubber/foam surrounding the cone with a deep scratch or scar.
