Hi Sandra, and another great video of a famous song. Somehow your strings jingle! Is this due to the string position on your guitar? By the way, I am now a new member of your channel.
@GuitarversumSandraSherman2 ай бұрын
Hi Jay, thanks for supporting me! The strings don't jingle. It's the special kind of condenser microphone that bleeds into the elextric sound. I just cut it out for the performances, not while I'm talking. Do you still hear it in the performance at the beginning of the lesson?

Just for educational purposes, I must say that monkeys and apes do have short (!) thumbs. Humans have long thumbs and this is one of our most important physical differences to our closest relatives. This is the reason that humans can do the so called precision grip that apes are not able to our ability. I, BTW, always mute the a string with my thumb, just as Hendrix and SRV used to do. So, if one is physically able to do it he/she should. It is just a very reliable way to do it. Very good video though.
@GuitarversumSandraSherman Жыл бұрын
The point is, even with a very long thumb you won't be able to mute the D- ir g-string. That's why it makes more sense to generally mute the string with the finger below it. But of you feel good with it, use your thumb.
@michaelhuttig6596 Жыл бұрын
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman Hi, thank you. But my main point actually was the monkey part 😏 And the thumb muting is, of course, only meaningful for the a string. I would not recommend it, let's say, for the high e-string. I tried it once and had to call the ambulance afterwards 😁 The guy from the ambulance was doing his best to free me out of the absurd situation I got into. When he didn't manage to get my thumb out of it's trap between the fretboard and the nut he had to call the firefighters. Took them half an hour to arrive. You can imagine how I was sweating and whining in pain. Also I was a bit embarrassed, they might had thought I'm stupid, or at least a typical German (aka Saupreiss). Once that they arrived they realized quickly that the question was down to, 'either the guitar neck or that grotesquely bended and twisted thumb', one of them had to be cut of. That was when I pulled all my senses and strength together and pleaded, 'the string, the string, just cut it off'. I was lucky, since the firefighter with that huge electrical saw understood German. Puhh, I don't want to risk something like that ever again. I, ever since, muted the higher strings only with my left knee. Took some years of practice though... Wonder if Hendrix knew that little trick 😏🤷♂️

A-7, Ab-7, G-7 should be named right minor chords Am-7, Abm-7, Gm-7,sorry. But otherwise very good.
@GuitarversumSandraSherman3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, no pro does that, though 😊. I try to say it correctly when I teach, bc I know students don't know it yet. But when you talk to a pro player you won't hear the 7. We don't use triads in jazz, so it's absolutely clear, that it's all 7ths anyway. And actually we don't even play many 7th chords. We usually play tension chords.
