WORLD DESTROYING SPOILERS for the film Get Out obviously. Don't watch if you haven't seen it.
Probably the best discussion about the movie I've seen on the wide world of the internet so far so here it is for convenience sake.

Several thoughts: there were lots of nice little touches in this film. First, until I heard this, I didn't clue into Rose resisting the cop checking Chris' license - not out of outrage, but to cover her tracks. And Rose telling Chris that her dad "would have loved to vote for Obama a third time", then her dad says that word for word; it wasn't just "Oh, I know my dad so well, I KNOW he's gonna say that", that was just part of the story they'd made up in advance. And Rod? One of the best bros in cinema, hands down. Also, I loved Woolie's description of retreating to the kinship of other black people as a "save point".

Thats kinda of a tribe thing to do right like i know if i am surrounded by people of a diferent cultural background like in a party of something if i see another mexican or latín american people (even if i dont aproach them or anything) brings me some modicum of comfort in an otherwise akward situation

im imagining you have the legal name on your profile and all your life people have made fun of you for it so you go to a party and introduce yourself as daniel snutts and you meet a girl and date and get engaged and on your wedding day the priest says "i pronounce you mr and ms.....bofa d. snutts" and *everyone* falls out in laughter except you, with this sullen look on your face.

I got so hype like ten minutes into this that I fucking paused the video and went to go see the movie for myself. Woolie is right; Get Out is a genius horror film that offers amazing social commentary without feeling preachy or demonizing anyone. Probably one of my favorite films of the last five years. I can't wait for more from Peele.

^ It's a fucking horror movie with racism as a thematic undertone. Yeah, a movie that talks about racism is going to highlight black people under an oppressive system perpetuated by white people because um...that's been the history of the U.S.A. Slavery, Jim Crow, Segregation, efforts for black suffrage...there's a whooooole lot to draw from. Also, keep capitalizing certain words, I like that idea that you think you're really sticking home your point with those. This movie got all up in your comfort zone huh.
@TheOneAndOnlyNAB
@TheOneAndOnlyNAB 7 жыл бұрын
For someone who talks about hostility you've certainly got that in spades, man. The police officer isn't portrayed as evil. Do you know why? Because these white people in this fictional community in particular are basically an insane cult. The movie does not say or suggest that literally all white people in the country behave this way, that's your projection. Racism is still very much alive in this country. We could take a look, for example, at the two highlighted police shootings in Minnesota. When a black man was killed (a black man who was a loving and supportive father with his daughter in the car, so you should at least love him, right?) as he complied during a traffic stop, the officer shot him. However, the media portrayed the officer in the most innocent light possible while smearing the victim (talking about his use of weed as if that justifies shooting a non-threatening civilian). Meanwhile, a black police officer shot an innocent white woman, and media outlets have gone to great lengths to bring up the officer's identity and religion and lambast him (justifiably) for the shooting. While the white woman has literally been referred to in media as "the most innocent victim ever". The fucking police chief was forced to resign because of this shooting. So. Same city, two police shootings of innocent and non-threatening civilians, two VERY different public responses in the media, along with VERY different consequences. You're gonna tell me race wasn't a factor in all that though, huh? Then again, you've got a warped view on black people anyway. The only other things I need to respond to are 1.) MLK was assassinated because of his efforts for Civil Rights...shit didn't magically become all good a few years later. 2.) That whole "where are the black fathers!!!" thing is a Fox-News level talking point that has been debunked. Here's an article that talks about how and why. www.nytimes.com/2015/06/08/opinion/charles-blow-black-dads-are-doing-the-best-of-all.html And if you're gonna be a bitch about that, here's a study with a ton of data that suggests that black fathers are there for their kids more often than hispanic or white fathers. www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nhsr/nhsr071.pdf
@TheOneAndOnlyNAB
@TheOneAndOnlyNAB 7 жыл бұрын
Buddy, you've got some pent up agitation towards black people that I can't help you with. Racism has a ton of forms in this country, from White Flight and Red Lining, responses to black drug addicts versus white drug addicts, voter suppression, an uncanny amount of confederate supporters considering the Civil War was fucking done with over 200 years ago, a web of police violence against black victims that never results in proper police punishment, respectability politics, etc. But it's pointless to talk about any of this with you because you'll somehow deflect it all and blame black people for where they stand in society today. Good luck being so full of disdain for black people. Is Woolie one of the good ones to you? Lmao
@TheOneAndOnlyNAB
@TheOneAndOnlyNAB 7 жыл бұрын
You're a raving lunatic dude. Also, I linked to a study after the opinion piece, but it's great that you ignored that. You've got some pretty thinly veiled racism in comments you've made about black people in this video, so it's pointless to try and talk this through any further. Good luck with life
