Zac Tromans I did and according to Matt they can only regenerate 13 times or something but magically he regenerated another time which could mean he lied. Meaning our knew info could be false. It might as well be a filler episode. I hated all of Matt's stuff.

Travis Romig It may seem like a filler episode to you, but it was actually pretty significant in the long run of the show, acknowledging long-standing lore. As established in "The Deadly Assassin" in the mid-Seventies, Time Lords CAN only regenerate 12 times, equaling a maximum of thirteen different bodies. Unless, and this was made clear in "The Five Doctors" in 1983, they somehow acquire a new set of regenerations. One such method is being given a new regeneration cycle by the High Council of Gallifrey. This was the exact method used in "Time of the Doctor". Since he had already regenerated twelve times (including the War Doctor and the second regeneration into Tennant in Journey's end), his life cycle was up. He did not lie. They even showed the "Seal of the High Council" from The Five Doctors to emphasise the connection. It was the exact same prop used 30 years earlier. As for why he all of a sudden showed signs of age over the course of a mere 300-600 years while looking not a single day older after his "200 year Farewell Tour" in "Closing Time"... explanation 1: Years tend to be especially long on Trenzalore (In the episode we're shown that the actual days are very short with the nights lasting considerably longer), explanation 2: Since his biogenic nuclei (that's what makes regeneration possible) were exhausted, they slowly started to break down, making his real age slowly seep through the facade of the young man.

When the Great Intelligent interfered with the Doctor's timeline, Clara jumped in to then go ahead and fix all the mistakes. Hence the reason why there's several Clara's. The Doctor couldn't save Amy because it was a fixed point in time. Going back for them would cause a paradox as Amy was the one who published River's book.

Love when people make excuses for the shows BS. It hand waves the whole problem with a purposeful nonsense argument (fixed point/timey-wimey) which you just have to accept. It winds me right up because it is such a weak excuse and doesn't really set the ground rules. It just allows the writers to do what they want and not worry about making countless plot holes inherent in time travel stories. That and the writing went to absolute shit since midway through the last doctor. I love capaldi and think he makes a good dr but the scripts are just garbage.

Also if you look at the credits of the first four Doctors or Eccleston, the role is listed as "Doctor Who" And finally, there are multiple episode titles and even occasions in the series itself where he was called "Doctor Who". The guy in the top hat (The Great Intelligence) entering the Doctor's time scar caused everything in the Doctor's life to be changed due to a negative influence. Clara entering the time vortex changed that, because all her scattered selves went to work on saving the Doctor, and reversing those negative effects, returning the Doctor's life to the status quo, balancing bad and good. Clara was supposed to jump into the vortex. The fact that she hesitated caused everything to go bananas. Clara has been with the Doctor from the start, always watching over him, She's us. The audience. There have been many generations of us, but deep down we're all the same. We watch the show, we travel with him, but it's us who keep the show alive.

But, yeah, meanwhile, she's time-traveling with Arya Stark (sorry, I mean Ashildr) as her companion! Which, btw, I would love to watch as a spin-off show! :p Nevertheless, he did TRY to save her, going against every rules of time-travel, despite the fact that her death became a fixed point in time the moment he witnessed it. He didn't went that far with Amy and Rory (althought I guess the fact that those two got to actually live a meaningful life helped the Doctor accept their fate...)
