This young man was truly in need of your service. Half of the information you gave him I think he already knew but either didn’t have the time or thought maybe it would go away on it’s own. A simple soak in a plastic dish pan with warm soapy water does the trick. I put a couple of drops of Ivory body wash into the water and use a soft nail brush and gently rub my nails, toes and underneath of my feet. I do this everyday without fail. My Podiatrist once told me that my feet were my only mode of transportation, to take care of them or I wouldn’t be going anywhere. Hopefully your patient does everything you suggested. He sounded like he would. Time will tell. As usual Dr. Jefferson, you covered all the bases. You’re the best 👣

I had a hospice nurse give a family member the BEST advice. She couldn’t reach her feet, so the nurse had us buy one of the “back scrub brush” it needed to be the brush, we got a soft bristle and find the longest handle possible and a little inexpensive hair dryer. When she showers use the long handle brush to scrub the feet and toes, and when she got out she uses the hair dryer to dry her feet, then apply her moisturiser. No more large scale skin plaque, and the underside of the nail stays clean.

After watching Dr Jefferson and “The Last Dance” (re: Michael Jordan) this week, i find that too many men (and women) are not wearing proper cushion insoles in shoes AND sneakers ; they also are lacking a good long handled stiff scrub brush for their feet when they are showering. Jordan played his last game at MSG in a pair of air Jordans with the original design. And make. He said by the half his feet were so painful and so beat up that his socks were bloody. Like Dr. Jefferson says we got to take care of our feet 🦶🏿

I'm always impressed with the method and instruments with which you take care of feet. The extra time you take to file down nails with different files to precisely leave nails short and clean;even the shaving and filing of the bottom of feet, care between toes, questions about health and information you give your patients about how their overall health affects their feet, the use of your sister's peppermint sugar scrub and shea butter. I watch several podiatric videos and you are by far the most detailed, informative and educational, which also holds patients accountable for their health(it's a partnership; patient and doctor working together for better health).

@DC Foot Doctor Dr.Jefferson, if people with dry skin issues aren't supposed to be using salts or vinegars on our feet to soften and remove dead skin, then what should we be using? Do you know of a foot soak product line that's free of the things dry skin folks shouldn't be soaking with? Or maybe a diy soak "recipe" using safer ingredients?
@cwillis925 жыл бұрын
I know your patients appreciate the fact you take the time to educate them on how to manage these issues as well as how to avoid them all together. I appreciate how you don't come off as being judgemental torwards them, but you do let them know how serious these issues are. My family has multiple diabetics & my dad suffers from gout & my grandma has a fungus issue. I need to take her to see a doctor about cutting or removing her nails because she can't & we don't have the proper nail cutter. A few years ago he had a wound on his left foot and decided not to go to a doctor for 2-3 months. By the time he went they couldn't save his big toe and they had to amputate it. Granted it's his own fault for not seeing a doctor when he should have, but I think more patients do better when your clear about how quickly things can go south when you do see them & how it's not worth to avoid doctors because of the embarrassment they may have!! Not only do you help your personal patients but you help other patients & families understand how important foot care is. You've probably saved thousands of people from losing toes or their whole foot because of your videos!!

The old folks often don't believe in running to the doctor "for every little thing" (this is the way they'd put it). They did not grow up in the day of preventive medicine, so... unless something is rotting off them or bleeding on the floor or something, they just ignore it as long as they can. I agree about Dr.Jefferson-- even a little education can go a long, long way to make a difference.
