WEEK 4
This week we install our fixed bed using a little Ikea hack, finish wiring the van and make a start on fitting the cladding to the roof.

We just got the shower tray from eBay, it is a fairly common one a Mira flight. It is 900x760 👍🏼

@@our.van.adventures thank you, I've seen a lot of the camper van ones but the quality just doesn't seem like it will last the test of time. 760 albeit a stander domestic size maybe too wide for what I want unless I rejig the layout to have it behind the driver, thanks again and look forward to your uploads

@@andycosway1840 we decided on a domestic one after seeing peoples camper/motorhome trays that seem to crack after a couple of years, it does weigh a bit more but it’s all built into the weight plan.

What wires did you use for your celing light, USB s etc ?

Hi we used multistrand single cables for our wiring. Most was done in 1.5mm as it is under 16a a few applications were larger like the fridge and heater just to be safe.

Hi, great build, how did you attach the wood batten to the van beam for the ikea skirva beams please? I'm in process of installing my bed myself and would like to do it the same way.

Hi yes we used rivnuts in the existing holes in the van and bolted the wooden beam on, this allowed us to put the brackets where we wanted 👍

Did you have to cut or shape the mattress.at all to make it fit

No it fitted straight in the way we have done it, we just pushed it into the tight bits but it has worked well

Thanks for the IKEA bracket link, used it and now have six brackets free of charge. Can I just ask why you used the wood rails for the brackets instead of fixing the brackets directly to the van like in "Will's whereabouts"

I wasn’t happy with where they were sitting, they were clashing with the factory holes and on the double skin parts the rivnuts were not holding great, so just used the good factory holes to rivnut to and spread the load with the batten. This also allowed us to move the end of the bed closer to the rear door 👍🏼

@@our.van.adventures Spent 3 days trying to drill holes in the skin for rivnuts, but the factory holes got in the way (waaay too big for the rivnuts and the brackets). Seriously thinking that a wooden batten like yours or aluminium bar would work better and hopefully save my sanity for the next hideous job: fitting a diesel heater
