Hi friends, when we travel, we bring as much food as possible from home. The reason is twofold; the first is that we save a ton of money. When our family goes out to eat, we spend at least 150.00, multiplied over 4 days; that is a lot. The second is that I don't know about your family, but we usually end up with upset stomachs when we eat out that much. Today I'm getting all the food ready for 4 days away, and I hope you enjoy coming along with me and seeing what I make.
Thanks for watching!

Fantastic reminder that we can save while traveling just by packing coolers. Your daughter makes prettier muffins than i do! Well done! I'm just gardening away. I may be getting to take out my kayak for the first time this weekend, so excited! Camping trip planned for a weekend soon. Enjoying family time too. I'm singing the praises of our Lord for the abundance of produce! God bless each of you!

My Uncle Tab, had a chevy truck and we would load that u. But he would leave enough room up my the window. Then we would lay our sleeping bags out for us 4 kids. My Aunt would fill a cooler for us with juices, home made granola, veggie sticks, fruit and all kinds of stuff. Then we'd get the reminder from my Uncle 'Don't drink to much we're not stopping.'. He was always about the destination and us kids were about the trip itself. I am 65 now and road trips take a lot more planning even than when we were kids. But so fun!

I use cottage cheese in my lasagna too, and and my recipe from the 70's called for one egg to be stirred into each tub before spreading over the noodles. I think it thickens it up to be more like the texture of ricotta. Cottage cheese is half the price of ricotta, and easy to find in any grocery store. I have broccoli and lettuce envy! The slugs have destroyed our scarlet runner beans, the leaf lettuce and done serious damage to the broccoli and kale. I go out every morning (and sometimes at night) and hunt them down. Its been very wet here after a dry spring, and the slugs are making up for lost time!

I just had a few tips that has helped me with traveling and getting ready in my house for when I get home. I clean my house, do laundry with getting everything ready for when getting back home and the food in the pantry too. Keep it fully ready. Also make some food to put in the freezer for when you get home. I have been doing this for a few trips and made me feel really good when I got home, and I didn't have to hurry to the grocery store until quite a few days. Thanks for sharing you're fun life and teaches us as well, I really appreciate you're family life and everything you share and have a blessed day!

Hope you had a nice trip with your family! Packing meals for the trip is so smart, I absolutely hate trying to figure out what to do for dinner in a strange place! Since you asked what's going on in our lives, I'll mention that I recently started raising chickens for the first time. I got them as day old chicks and now they're two weeks old and still unbelievably cute :)

I love gardening. Here in south Texas the heat is taking over the garden. The tomatoes are done but still getting a few Armenian cucumbers. Orkra, sweet potatoes, watermelon and peppers are doing good. I own a skin care company so I am in my shop most of the day making products. We are getting our deck ready for a 12x20 gazebo on order. We bought 3 HoseLink hoses to save my shoulders. Still need to set those up. My husband and I are 73 and great grandparents but thankfully we can work circles around those much younger.

You could probably lengthen your season if you invested in some shade cloth. I bought some 60% shade cloth this year to put over my lettuce and broccoli and still have broccoli to harvest. I live in a pretty hot climate too. I am planning to buy some 30% shade cloth for my hot weather veggies.

We have 5 children and although most are not at home with us anymore as they are all in their 20's, I sure do remember getting ready for road trips and vacations! Lots of work but you're right, so worth it. We used to pack drinks and snacks for everyone, and if we were going to be away tried to stay in motels with kitchenettes. This wasn't always possible, and the times when we weren't able to definitely were more expensive. I didn't make meals ahead but we still saved money buying food from the grocery store and cooking our own meals. Hope you enjoy your trip. Safe travels.❤

This brings back memories. Our family growing up always brought snacks and food on vacation, and I continued it with my children. Nothing like road snacks. We generally stayed in hotels. My dad was in India in the army for 3 years and always said that was enough of tents. We had cereal, etc for breakfast, sandwiches and fruit for lunch and generally went out for dinner. Hotels didn't have refrigerators in those days, so we always had a cooler that we had to refill.

A time saver: If you have a casserole dish as long as your pasta, put them in the dish and pour boiling water from your tea kettle over them and in about 20-25 minutes they’ll be Al dente and ready to form your lasagna. I’ve been doing this the last couple years instead of waiting for boiling water on the stovetop. You can add a little olive oil in your water or spray them with cooking spray if you get any sticking.

Hope you and your family had amazing trip, it is smart to park for trips anymore. We are leaving on Friday for the camper in the Smokey mountains. We are taking everything we need for every meal to cook on the black stone and grill. It’s too expensive to eat out anymore. It’s just myself, and my son and his family this trip. But still for four people to eat out one meal is like close to 90.00 per meal at dinner or more. So what I save on one night pay for the groceries the entire trip. The garden looks beautiful.
