You should have a little jig , piece of 2/4 with a 8 penny common nail about 3/4 into it . Then you can place the loops around it to keep everthing in order and also to tighten knots . The way you did it you compromised the mono by not wetting it .

I tighten my own knots underwater. This way you can avoid weakening due to heat build-up and it glides better. The rope won't get tangled.

Hi it's should be mentioned on the rod. Typically the max you can use is 15lbs line. Rule of thumb, the breaking strength of the line should not go more than the rod.
