i wish i could find all the old levels i played on the level browser. i remember a written story that i only ever played one episode of. it was told using frozen npcs and signs, and it seemed to take itself seriously. all that i remember of it was a fancy looking elevator and a frozen goonie meant to be a messenger bird belonging to the main character, maybe flying off to contact their lover. it blew me away when i was a little kid. it didn't interest me in the slightest, but i remember being really impressed.

I think the reasoning for the poor font quality is because you're playing on the Ruffle emulator, that doesn't always handle graphical effects correctly. Granted, it has improved drastically over time, and is almost at the point where the whole game can be played through without flaws, but it still has a few rough edges. Ruffle does also run the game significantly better than stock Flash, and that might account for your improved framerates. Speedrunners with high-powered machines still struggle to run the stock Flash version, because of its bottlenecked framerates, which is why we tend to use the in-game-timer mod nowadays to account for the timeloss. The red coin shine glitch at 3:18 is a glitch used in 100% speedruns of the game that takes advantage of some mis-assigned coin IDs. Picking up the first yellow coin in the room is considered equivalent to unlocking the shine, and dying is all you need to trigger it. So, all you need to do to collect the shine is to collect the first yellow coin, then die. A similar glitch exists in Tick Tock Clock, where collecting a specific red coin (I don't recall which) has the same effect. Usually speedrunners will exit and re-enter the room rather than dying, though, since that's marginally faster in TTC. I'm glad you liked Redux so far. I don't think it will ever be a replacement for the original, but I hope it'll help make the game more accessible in modern times, especially to the generation of players who are only able to play on mobile devices. I think they represent the modern equivalent to kids who are only able to play browser games (although there's also a browser version of Redux, because web compatibility is important to the game's heritage).

YESSS!!! I also used to play Super Mario 63 a ton growing up. I messed around with the game’s built in level creator so much when I was a kid and spent so much time going through the in-game list and Runnow forums finding and playing other people’s levels (especially the ones that were a set of multiple levels by one creator all listed as parts of a greater game with a story and stuff, those were the best) this game did a lot to influence my own interest in making platformer games. Unfortunately, for me at least, my experience going back to this game wasn’t all that great. The game would have random lag spikes, the collision would often be broken by these lag spikes, and Mario’s controls would often get locked and I’ll get stuck moving in one direction or action for a bit. But, while it definitely doesn’t hold up in many regards, it was still very much a bright spot in my childhood. Also, YESS STUPID MARIO BROTHERS!!!!!

Good on the algorithm for recommending a video rocketing me back to many happy hours spent in the Flash world :D this game was definitely one of my top 10 best flash games - so much heart and soul has been put into it, and you illustrate it very nicely. I'm so excited that a remake is being considered; something else to look forward to this year! One little note: the game actually originally didn't have any text issues; the text bubbles used to have these appropriate blocky clashy fonts that were pretty easy to read. That stock text I see in the video and the hard-to-read colors is probably due to using an emulator or playing on a website where something broke in the game files, if I had to guess, because I've run into that as well. Another note: I never knew how far that remix traveled on the internet, but what I do know is that it's one of the few tracks from the game that I spent multiple hours downloading to my iTunes and perfecting the metadata on.

Super Mario Bros Wonder looks awesome, and at the same time I've been wanting Nintendo to make a 2d platformer much like this for a while. It would be cool to have special zones that call back older games. The F.L.U.D.D. Luigi could get the poltergust. Maybe some day. Or maybe someone will mod Mario wonder in the year 2055

You _can_ actually play this game with a controller if you add the exe build to Steam as a non Steam game, but you still need a mouse for menu navigation. This game is great on my Steam Deck and it's a _huge_ nostalgia trip. I recently got a CRT PC monitor and I'm excited to play Super Mario 63 on it first.

I don't think I've ever had problems with the text not rendering in the correct font like you showed in the video. For those who don't know, the font that the game normally uses is actually very legible and uses striking dark bold outlines to help the letters pop.

4:59 Bruh. That was like a descent mid-range computer in like 2007/8. That must've played hella smooth on that computer. All I had till 2015 was a 2.4Ghz Pentium 4 CPU using integrated graphics and only 512 MB of DDR storage. Played it on low and it was rough, but overall ok.
