Bowser's personality is pretty fleshed out... He's a hot-headed, socially awkward, family-oriented single father who enjoys magic and technology and has a crush on Princess Peach but handles rejection very, very badly. He's not necessarily a bad person, and he never actually _hurts_ Peach, but he could use some therapy.

Without even watching my vote goes to Bowser Jr easily. He’s been in far fewer games and that actually works to his favor. It makes him a more fresh and welcomed opponent. While Bowser just gets stale after a while. Plus Sunshine alone proves why Jr is the best.

They both have succeeded in taking Peach, but Jr.'s the more indirect of the two, tactics tgat are crafty and sneaky rather than brute force. Jr.'s Journey shows that he's not above using brute force, though, and can be pretty one-track-minded much like his father. His Magic Paintbrush has so much potential and he's slowly been developing along his way toward being able to perform the same feats and abilities as his father, but is also more adept with machinery and utilises powerful mechas and technology his father doesn't normally tend to utilise much in one-on-one fights. Jr. is more nimble and quicker than his father as well. If they give Junior more magical abilities and mix it in with his technology he uses, it could make for some cool fights.

Bowser is also a hero, as seen in super Mario Bros Bowser's inside story where you actually get to play as Bowser in the game. And without knowing it, he actually save the mushroom kingdom himself by destroying dark Bowser (The dark star with Bowser's personality). So basically Bowser is stronger than a dark replica which has darker powers. He actually killed dark Bowser because dark Bowser was planning on taking over mushroom kingdom. (They are seen fighting here at 4:16 and 4:19) It's pretty cool that Bowser gets the final battle.

Junior definitely deserved it because 1. You get to know him better as you progress through the game 2. He has one of the most unique battles in Mario history. With bowser it’s just jump on him or push a button. But junior is on a whole other story

Sure Mario is chases by Bowser when he’s big multiple times, but the ways to avoid him are different. Not to mention U gave the ability to actually fight back. In Sunshine, it does show character for Bowser, namely the fact he cares about his kid. Sure he wasn’t honest about his mom, but it’s likely he wanted to find a mother figure, considering he was showing a much softer side than most games show and the context. Sure Junior is seen in many ways, but he’s been seen much less in other games. He may have a pipsqueak personality, but Bowser was more fleshed out due to the many games, Galaxy and Galaxy 2 giving his personality more definition. Sure multiple boss fights against the Koopa King are not too good, but many require a different method to defeat him. 64, Sunshine, and both Galaxy games are good examples of this. If you think about it, Bowser using the Super Bell and the Double Cherries is pretty dynamic, using Mario’s power-ups against him. Also, you can see Bowser has some form of honor, considering Mario, and eventually Luigi, to be worthy opponents and not willing to do certain things even he would consider awful. He even has forgiveness for a brute, forgiving three traitors and letting some troops leave the forces. I don’t know if Junior has similar traits, but he does seem to have a good relation with his dad. He even knows how to lead an assault if Wii’s NSMB game is to go off of. Both of them are quite persistent too, having lost countless times yet coming back time and time again.

While the use in the games at present points to Jr over Bowser, I have to disagree that moving Jr into Bowser's position would improve things - A lot of your points, the boss fight variety, the amount of interactions you get with him, and so on, would drop if he moved from essentially Bowser's general to the ultimate fight.

Bowser Jr.'s Plot in Mario Sunshine wasn't actually original in a way, as Bowser already tried something similar in Mario Bros 3. He had his Koopalings run around and cause havoc across the seven various kingdoms to keep Mario distracted/busy, and then swooped in and took Peach while Mario was away, sort of like with how Bowser Jr. kept Mario busy cleaning the island, and then went in and took Peach as well, just like his father before.
