You know what's ironic? People love to hate on Miyamoto for his "distaste" for story in video games, and while I'm guilty of once being like that myself, you have to give the guy credit for what he did in the original SMB. Back then, games had pretty much no story, but Miyamoto thought that even a basic "Hero rescues Princess from Dragon" scenario would be a powerful tool in motivating the player. In other words, you aren't just playing because it's a game, you're playing because you have stakes in the matter; you control Mario to help him reach his goal. Miyamoto likes simple stories in games, not complex or deep ones. I personally prefer the latter type, but I'll take a game with minimal story over one without any at all.
@4xzx44 жыл бұрын
Yeah but I miss the old Miyamoto. I don't like how he's an anti-story guy nowadays. Always remember that Paper Mario Sticker Star would have been TTYD 2 but Miyamoto put a stop to that and said that a good story wasn't even necessary. How many like Sticker Star over TTYD again?
@mossyrock_14 жыл бұрын
@@4xzx4 Yeah not alot of people do, myself included. Not really a good game IMO.
@TiStardust4 жыл бұрын
@@4xzx4 It’s important to note that Miyamoto didn’t “put a stop” to anything, aside from Galaxy 2’s extended narrative. In the case of Paper Mario, he simply said that Sticker Star’s prototype looked far too much like TTYD when he was approached for input. He gave his two cents, and that’s entirely fair. He didn’t seize control. An interview in 2019 with AlphaDream, creators of Mario & Luigi, indicated that Miyamoto actually was an active proponent of wackier stories in tertiary, non-action Mario games. He isn’t wrong to say that “Mario games don’t need story”, but he didn’t actively discourage them. At least, that wasn’t likely his intention.
@4xzx44 жыл бұрын
@@TiStardust Well, you're kinda wrong. Look up the interview about Sticker Star's development and you'll actually see that Miyamoto became angry at the team for making the new Paper Mario like TTYD and thus forced them to do it just like we got: Paper Mario Sticker Star.

@@maximumeffort2729 there's actually a reason behind all of this. Coleco had the IP to make Donkey Kong for home consoles. and they decided to do something scummy. they started out by making it a coleco exclusive, and then one year later they had an even more devious idea, release it on the other consoles but make them completely inferior to make people think that they don't have the superior console and to get a Colecovision for the full exprience. and to put a cherry on the cake, they refused to make an Atari 5200 version because they full well known that they would be caught out on this little scheme. and the most rediculous part is that Coleco totally got away with it! bearly anybody knows about the story and they still don't suspect anything and STILL think that the Coleco was a more capable console rather than it just being gimped.

Then I had the Gamecube, with games like Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Superstar Baseball, Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, Mario Power Tennis, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Kirby Air Ride, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, Luigi's Mansion, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$, Sonic Mega Collection, Sonic Heroes, and of course, Super Smash Bros. Melee. 'Round that same time frame I got a Game Boy Advance SP, though I didn't get a GBA-native game until around the time Chicken Little hit theaters. Before that, I had Yoshi's Cookie, Aladdin, and Dr. Mario, all Game Boy originals. I do specifically remember, my first GBA game was Yoshi Topsy-Turvy. It was fun, I thought.

It was when they brought the system to the USA that they became concerned about quality control and started the seal of quality and began controlling production. Great video. I see way too many people who focus on how the game doesn't hold up today without appreciating how insane it is that it holds up at all given it was made for the stock Famicom/NES without any special mappers like later games.
