Mario is surprisingly one of the few IPs in pop culture that has been going extremely strong for its full existence. Sure, maybe a fluke here and there but not like a real dark age where it was nothing but consistent failures.

I think 2026 is a reasonable release date, 3 years doesn’t really seem that quick to me, if it was 1 year that’d be another thing but this seems like a fine enough gap in between the 2, I’m just curious about what they mean by this movie not being a “Sequel” per say, is it gonna focus on different characters in the Mario world? In which case wouldn’t it be a spin-off? What exactly does that mean? I’m personally hoping it means something else because although I think they can do it later on down the line I don’t want this to turn into a cinematic universe *THIS* early, I think they should wait a movie or 2 before doing spin-offs and things like that, but I’m excited to see this movie because I thought the first one was really fun

Back I believe in Nintendo Power, There was comic called Super Mario Adventures, One of which shows how Mario and Wario met, moreover, why they dislike eachother. But we find out the reason, is actually because Mario bullied Wario, The two starting off friends, but Mario constantly put him down, calling him fat and dumb. While obscure, I think that would be an interesting direction to take the Wario story in the next movie. Mario was smaller and needed to find confidence to defend his younger brother, So he went after people bigger than him, becoming kind of a bully himself. Having that as the emotional conflict of the film, Mario being made to look like the villain, would be an interesting way to take it.

Growing up in the 90s I always thought Disney would had ended up with a mario land, since nintendo is usually family oriented. After star wars and marvel. I'm gald that nintendo has more control over parks and movies

I liked it. They definitely shoe horned a lot in as I’m not sure they were sure it was gonna be a hit. This is an opportunity for them to make a more fleshed out better story rather than having to tick a lot of boxes.

I think the issue with the first movie was that it felt the writers were restricted in what they were able to do because Nintendo were heavily involved with this movie. I bet you that a lot of the story decisions from the first movie had to be approved by Nintendo. That’s one disadvantage when the video game company is involved in the making of the film. They hire directors and writers that will do exactly what they say instead of letting them actually do a movie.

@@d.c.stranded7134 The issue with that original Mario Bros movie was hiring directors that dislike video games. You can tell watching that film that it was embarrassed being a video game adaptation. What a good video game adaptation needs are filmmakers who love the source material. This new movie, which I love, has people who love the source material but they didn’t do much before this film. I think most of what they done before was Teen Titans Go and that’s it. You can make an argument that Nintendo are the actual director of this film.

To an extent I could see what you mean except for the fact that as someone who's been playing Mario games for well over 20 something years Princess Peach has been wildly inconsistent with the whole "damsel in distress" thing, matter of fact the first Mario game I ever played, Super Mario Bros. 2, she was one of the heroes and was basically the easy mode
