Speedy Gonzales was taken off of syndication when Turner got the rights, seeing it as offensive...until a large portion of the Mexican community were annoyed that Speedy was no longer online, since they apparently loved the character. That's why Speedy made a return to TV and was even featured in the new Looney Tunes show.

It really seemed like Speedy offended people who were offended on behalf of Mexicans. The Mexicans themselves llove him in a similar way that Africans love Black Panther. It's probably due to how Speedy's always the hero and he always goes up against WASPS.

The Breacher I know that they didn’t quit any of those shows, although they‘ve done that too in the past. It’s just that you’re watching a series until they’re almost finished and then they start a new series that you watch until the same thing happens again, over and over.

Speed Gonzalez was actually pretty beloved by the Mexican community. My Mexican side of the family actively owned multiple dvds exclusively consisting of Speedy Gonzales episodes, and he was consistently their favorite cartoon character. Not only was he a badass Mexican hero, but my older relatives even said the stereotypes that a lot of people consider hurtful nowadays are were actually way more accurate than they gave them credit for, at least at the time.

I don't get the whole hubbub with Apu. Almost every character in the Simpsons is a stereotype or caricature of a type of person (Groundskeeper Willie, Dr. Nick, The mobster guys) yet we have NON INDIANS (people getting offended for no reason) whining about Apu. It's the same sort of thing that happened with that Chinese prom dress - actual Chinese people were fine with the dress being worn and loved that it celebrated their culture, but a number of westerners thought it was bad because it was "cultural appropriation". People are such killjoys nowadays.

First off, they are not planing to change Apu, at least not right now. Most of the crew of the Simpsons find this whole controversy stupid. And it is. Apu was never a character that made fun of Indian people, in fact in many episodes he showed the Simpsons how interesting his heritage is. There was an episode though where he tried to sound like an American and changed everything about his behaviour to be able to stay in the US, only to find out that he betrayed who he actually is. He is proud of his heritage and there is nothing wrong with that. Not everything is offensive all of a sudden.

Stereotyping and jokes normalize the difference between us. If we can't joke about it, it will become important and decisive. I didnt find anything wrong with Apu's character. He was just shown as a hard working man just earning bread for his family. I think people are too overly sensitive to everything. They start changing stuff that doesnt need to be changed and when anyone says its the slightest bit unnecessary they get called a whole sleuth of buzz words that have lost every ounce of meaning because they say it so often because they are about as subtle with it as Oprah giving people cars. I just hate how everyone has become so divided on a political level and a cultural level. My opinion says its the media and over simplification of politics and philosophy (meaning they see things in black and white not shades of grey like how reality actually is) paired with the educational system just telling us to think like everyone else and to not be an individual. Just my thoughts •~•

The Simpsons use to be on the same level of South Park as far as jokes were made about almost every subject, but with a lighter tone. Now that times have changed as far as what's acceptable it's tough to push boundaries. It would be like if comic book fans got mad at Comic Book Guy for being offensive towards the stereotypes he portrays. If Big Bang Theory proves anything, nerds can still be made fun of, and no one cares since our hobbies can be enjoyed by anyone.

Some people will see the level that he is playing as a cakewalk, but it is difficult as there are tight time frames to progress from one part to another. He accomplishes the different areas of the stage as he talks to Dan about various topics throughout the episodes, thus illustrating the new heights Arin's concentration has reached.

The only people who find Apu offensive are people looking for anything to complain about or part of this new generation of people who actually need to be offended or offended on someone elses behalf because reasons. Even people like kids who may have bullied because of the existence of Apu, aren't suffering because Apu exists, they're suffering because some people are just total assholes. It starts with Apu but slowly they'll have to change more and more characters until it reaches a new point of ridiculousness and suddenly they have to change Krusty because people who aren't clowns in the trade sense feel offended on behalf of the clown community. These are the same people who celebrated because Black Panther was a black lead Marvel character even though 20 years ago Blade had a trilogy and no one though it necessary to point out Wesley Snipes was black- they just enjoyed the movie and made it one of the earliest marvel movie successes. I hope history remembers how this generation of people managed to push society back decades because everyone wants to be offended and all of them think they're pushing us forward lol.

Way back many people talked about Snipes being a black actor and having a main character in a movie. This is the same for movies like Crouching tiger and hidden dragon and asians, and a long etc of other movies and ethnics. This is not new, at all. Its just talked about more, but it actually happened a lot in the past. And its funny because people LOVE to talk about how others get offended and I never see the actual offended people. They never exist and if they do they are just a couple of people and not the hundreds you and many other people claim that exist. I don't know why you are kinda butthurt about people just liking having representation on movies. For example people like games and nerdy stuff, why can't be proud of a movie that shows that? Is that a sin now? The same with race and culture. Can't people have those things? Why things like what you like is ok but culture things and ethnics is wrong? Either you like them both or you hate them both.

Nobody cared that a black lead marvel character was making waves with Blade. I remember the release, post and pre- I never saw, read or spoke to anyone who cared that Blade was black, just like the comic character was suppose to be. Everyone loved Blade because it was awesome and Wesley nailed it. Where the hell were you hearing all this commotion over Blade being played by a black dude??? What world were you in where people suddenly started making Blade a racial event of cultural significance?? Its funny you don't see the offended people but clearly have internet access... in fact its mind boggling... You must be amazing at minesweeper. But don't worry, you don't need to see these people because their effects are all around you- word on the street is even The Simpsons are changing their 30 year old Apu character because it's offending those people you never see! Let me rephrase why I'm 'butthurt' in a more simple way. I'm sick of media feeling like it has to change because of these people rather then changing naturally or remaining as intended. A person shouldn't have to change there vision to pander to community of loud, vocal groups that aren't even representative of those they are 'helping to protect'.I'm sad that Speedy Gonzales has to issue a statement of apology on its merchandise or that Apu can't just be Apu still. I don't think policing well-intentioned pop-culture from the past, present or future is a positive thing at all- especially in the case of fictitious intellectual properties or comedy. This isn't about 'people liking representation' in the slightest- no one disagreed with that sentiment... No one said you can't be proud either... No one insinuated it was a sin...? No one said you can't have race or culture- in fact my argument was pro-culture and pro-race... my point was very clear that I feel we are retreading the same cultural milestones we have in the past as if its the first time- a clear sign that society hasn't progressed but has actaully regressed and is only now starting to get back on track to reaching where we had gotten to previously. I'm going to just ignore the rest of you comment, it seems your projecting you own thoughts onto me even though they barely relate to anything I said and in some case were just straight up unrelated to anything I said... I'm not here for your strawman arguments... Btw, I'm African.. Just thought I'd throw that out there since you clearly said most of that hoping I was a 14 yr white boy living in America lmao. Now tell me more about how I 'hate race and culture' and how I think 'culture and ethnics '(I hope you meant *Ethics* but who knows??)' are wrong.

Gonzalo Vittori I think it's that people presume that those who criticize something they like automatically hate it or are angry. People were angry in the 90s sure, but the people discussing it now aren't necessarily angry. If they seem angry, it's often just because people just attack them right away.

TheMalibuLizard and people assumed I was white for criticizing Apu's characterization. I'm Indian American. When they find that out they say only Indian opinions matter. It's bizarre. No one should expect our views to be monolithic. That being said I don't expect anyone who isn't an immigrant living in America to understand what it's like when stereotypes from a cartoon character were the primary way people got to know you culture and when positive sterotypes were often back handed compliments that led to mistreatment in other ways . Criticizing a character made at a different time by liberal white and Jewish folks doesn't mean that you hate the character or that you are anti progress. It just means that people are understanding the issues that come with being represented a certain way and after a trial period are just suggesting some tweeks or presenting how there are issues caused by certain types of representation.

Someone better make a Game Grumps Animated episode based of 0:51 - 1:08, 5:37 - 5:55, 6:36 - 6:45, 8:26 - 8:35, and 12:20 - 12:27. I also miss The Simpsons at its best, I haven't seen it in ages.

Apu is hilarious. No one should apologize for comedy-it's the place where all bounds should be able to be crossed. smh.

Nah, many indian people always concidered Apu racist, there's been articles and even a short film i think about how the character actually was used for irl racist harassment and bullying, you're just hearing more about it now because it's become easier to get yr voice heard via the internet and information spreads faster
@SubsonicNoise6 жыл бұрын
Also, a vast majority of the people going "Back then nobody found it racist" just were and probably still are nearly exclusively around people not affected by that racism

You'e actually wrong about it just being easier to get the information out. The fact is alot of people nowadays are creaming their pants at the thought of any hint of controversy and are running out of shit to complain about. So, they find a tiny fraction of a small group and make big deals out of nothing.

Woah BigHailFan it's almost as if people affected by a kind of discrimination aren't a uniform group that holds regular councils on what discriminates them, but instead actual people with different perspectives!! Fact is, it has negatively affected enough people for it to be an issue.

the Apu drama is nonsense, basically every side character is a stereotype
@ourseon25776 жыл бұрын
Nick fake. There is no racial stereotype of white people. (and don't even try to speak about nationality stereotype )
@M3g4UBERn00b6 жыл бұрын
That's because there isn't really a stereotype of white people, it's not specific enough. That's why you have scottish and english stereotypes etc. Literally don't care you said don't mention nationality ones, that just seemed like a "don't say it because it might counter my point"
@ThatIrishSOB6 жыл бұрын
So sick of SJWs and white liberals whining about shit that doesn't matter. Let comedy be comedy. As soon as you try to censor and try to dictate what can and can't be joked about, you ruin it.

until we either defuse them or use superior force and tactics, it's not going to get any better. They're not going away and the media is making sure they don't just get ignored.

Exactly im scottish and white, so thats the stereotype, i sure apus stereotype isnt about "brown" people its about Indian, not the many other countries that share a similar skin colour. White doesnt mean american either.

I didn't notice until this episode but this is actually an amazingly creative level. It is literally Hall of the Mountain King! It starts in a cave before reaching the halls and at the very end the largest Monty Mole is wearing a goddamn shell as a crown! This level was way cool!
