Mixing:
Drumset mixed in Cockos Reaper mostly with plugins from IK Multimedia and Waves.
The miced signals (BD, SD and Toms) are software-triggered by Toontracks Drumtracker and processed by Superior Drummer w/ Metal Foundry. The output from Superior Drummer is mixed 60/40% with the real (and mixed) sound of the mics. All "room mics" (OH, Hats and Ride) are 100% miced sound (since you cannot trigger cymbals). No hardware triggers are used to maintain dynamics better. What you see is what you hear :)

Good drumming, but only if standalone patterns. I mean not so harmony played together with Super Mario melody. Too straight patterns, no accents. So it hearing as melody alone and drummer alone and no duet.

Triggers are Audio/MIDI converters. So you are able to interchange the sound. It's also possible to take influence on the dynamics of the resulting MIDI signal. If that's cheating, a compressor plugin would be cheating too, because it changes the dynamics of the source signal. QUANTIZING on the other hand IS cheating because you correct the POSITION of a drum hit to a spot in time where it actually wasn't played. That's what I DON'T do. Get the difference and stop spamming unqualified comments:)

Actually I don't use triggers. I use Drumtracker to convert my miced tracks into MIDI :)

stop comparing him to vadrum, he never intended to be like him, he is a great drummer, no doubts about that.. but one opinion if you don't mind, the drum is kinda overkill.. i'm not a drummer so it's not a drummer point of view.. i have a band and i wrote most the song of my band, and sometimes it's annoys me that my drummer doesn't really know what the song needed and doesn't play accordingly, kinda like a show off.. i didn't mean that you are, but exploring other musics won't hurt.. :)

You have fantastic timing....but the cover in general wasnt very original....and btw, VADrum doesnt blast with his feet for 9/10 of the video. He could still kill you with his footwork. By being more selective, he gives his music an actual expression. Yours is just balls to the wall at all times....you run the same stuff with your feet over and over, not very inventive if you ask me...plus, he created an environment for the fills and accents all the major dynamics of the song. You dont.

Awesome stuff, loads of wrist action (don't say it!), very tall arrangement with so much angle on the toms etc, but obviously that's what works for him! The Super Mario tune would seriously do my head in after a while though...actually, after about 12 seconds. Neat idea though, great drumming! DC

I'd be shocked if these weren't triggers. But triggers aren't always bad. I think they aren't needed, but it makes fast double bass sound more clear. The downside is that every hit sounds artificial and lifeless.
