Hey Brian, I enjoy your videos. And watch them all. One question. What is your technique for opening sows to see if they have any on board
@CarpeSusАй бұрын
@jimadams2945 Good question. First warning, shallow cuts will save you from making a real mess. Okay, flip the hog on her back and spread the legs. I usually take the leg on my left side and hold it up with my left hand and let the hog lean to the right which will keep the legs splayed and give you access to the lower belly. Note, I am right handed. Reverse if you are left handed. Along the center line of the belly, start making SHALLOW cuts from 4-8" down toward the anus, depending on the size of the hog. As you SLOWLY progress through the layers making shallow cuts (2nd warning), you will eventually enter the abdominal cavity. When you do, intestines or uterus will try to pop out. The lower (toward anus) the opening, the more likely that if something pops out, it will be the uterus and the hog is pregnant. Chances are you only have a small slit into the belly. IF what you see is pink in color, that should be the uterus and she was pregnant. If gray or brown, it is the intestines. If the opening is farther from the anus, you will likely encounter the intestines first, even if she was pregnant. You can carefully (3rd warning) open her more to see uterus. If shrunken, deflated, and gray, she is not pregnant. What you are looking for is swollen, full of fluid, and pink in color. That is the uterus. Slowly pull it out and keep pulling both ends until each stops. If you feel where the uterus attaches, one end will have little nodules that are the ovaries. So now you have a long and lumpy tube. Each lump is an embryonic sack. Most or all will contain a fetus unless that embryo failed to survive. Small fetuses look like what you saw in this video. Large ones will be piglets. Large ones are easier to extract. Make sense? Questions?

@@CarpeSus thanks. I hunt pigs/ hogs myself. Just never checked to see if they were pregnant. I was wondering if you had a method. Your response was helpful. Thanks again

Maybe this isn't uncommon but Ben seemed particularly steady on the first hog. Sometimes it’s a question I’m my mind if you’ll both line up in the count down but not that shot.

When using an unmounted scope as a spotter or for video the crosshairs will be seen. That's not exactly aiming at someone.
