This nest was MASSIVE!! It had well over 10,000 yellow jackets inside it! I vacuumed and vacuumed and vacuumed! It felt like it was never going to end!
I pulled the nest out, and took it home, and fed it to my Emus, Rhea, Chickens, and Squirrel!

It's pretty difficult to not hear all the buzzing and chewing, but seeing where the nest was located it's a strong possibility. The smell had to be absolutely terrible, with all that sludge and nest gunk. Your emus and rhea really love their "birdbath". The upcoming wasp/hornet season might be early given how warm it's been. Looking forward to your 2023 content.

Yeah I was blown away they didn't have any other alerts to there being a nest sooner! I'm thinking the same thing! Last year was smaller nests, so hopefully this season will get an early start and create more interesting nests!

@@HornetKingOfficialhey, about the durability of those nests, I've encountered a wasp nest in an old car that was parked in the garden that wasn't used for years and that thing was absolutely crazy. It was huge, but also it was extremely hard, it was like an egg shell. (I don't know what species it was or if it's even normal, but the surface was surprisingly hard. I am from Europe so idk if it's a species that you also have) It also was ginormous, so i just sprayed a crap load of the anti nest spray and ran away, waited some time and i repeated this a couple of times. Its crazy how big they can get if you don't notice them for a long time. Is there even some limit to how big they can build and how many can be in a single nest? Or can they just expand indefinitely until something kills them?

Huge nest, great coverage. It's so interesting watching the emus, rhea and chicken enjoying their snack. I didn't realize until this video that the emus and rhea swallow entire chunks of the nests. It's always looked before like they tear it apart. How much bigger will the emus and rhea get? They are adorable.
@HornetKingOfficial

Yup! That's why I tweeze sometimes, so the chickens get a chance to get some larvae, haha the emus will get much bigger. I don't think Rhea the Rhea will get all that much bigger.

When I was younger my grandfather found a nest in a sealed-off section of our 1800s farmhouse when he was renovating the basement to add a boiler. When he took down the tile brick wall there was a yellow jacket nest about 4-5 feet tall and bigger around than he could reach they got in through a gap between the top of the brick and the house connection point. I told him it might be a world record for the biggest ground hornet nest we needed a polaroid of it. lol But he never did, but it was the biggest id ever seen or heard of.

I have too many of wasps and Yellowjacket’s nesting in my old homes attic. This is due to the fact the wood up there is very soft for them to make nests with and the roof leads to a crawl space which is only covered by a metal roof, and has plenty of tiny spaces, so I see nests up there and in that space every summer. I’ve just taken to wearing a bee suit and taking a pressure washer up there and just lasering the nest away. We’re at war with one another

I really enjoy all your videos and look forward to them. It drives me crazy that you don't use a more powerful vacuum! You did a great job explaining in this video, and have explained in others why you don't. I totally respect you and your decision not to use a more powerful vacuum, but you have to see it from my perspective. I'm sitting in my chair watching these videos with no bee suit or gloves, and I instinctively want those hornets gone as quickly as possible. Sometimes I swear I can feel them crawling on me, which is great! It's like a scary movie. If it were me though, I'd want one of those huge vac trucks that they use to suck out septic systems with. It's too bad the hornets have to go, they're cool critters, but if they become problematic to households or businesses then they gotta go. I also respect the fact that you seem to be very light handed with chemical poisons. I love all your animals, and enjoy watching the feedings. I'll bet the eggs that your chickens lay have the darkest orange yolks, and taste better than any eggs ever. One year there were a ton of moths where I live, and I noticed during that same time that my chicken's eggs were just stunningly good. I tried to figure out why their eggs had gotten much better, and it became evident one afternoon when I watched the chickens feasting on nothing but moths. That might creep some people out, but circle of life if you ask me. Keep up the great content man, it's obvious from your subscribers that people are enjoying it.

First thing, great short videos that you’ve been posting. I really hope that gets you new subscribers. Now my weekly question: Wasps or hornets reuse envelope to build their nest/envelope in their structured nest? If this spring you put pieces of envelope on your wood pile, will the use it? I remember a video you made with post-it notes of different colors that they used, just didn’t know if they would recycle envelopes from others. Keep up the great videos Bret! A funny story regarding wasps: one tried to start building a nest in my bathrobe. Yes. Last summer, we had the window open constantly. So I was taking a piss and see a wasp flying suspiciously straight and directly under the hood of my bathrobe. I washed my hands, decided to look under and well, there were the beginnings of a nest. It was exactly big enough to house the one wasp. So I waited till it flew out again and promptly got rid off the nest, sprayed it with deodorant, put the bathrobe into a washing machine and later that evening burned it. It didn't want to catch on fire for quite some time.
