Do you know how smoothly it cuts acrylic? I'm primarily looking to cut and engrave up to 5mm pieces but the engraving sharpness is critical as it will be for backlit simulator panels, and small flaws will look terrible. Maybe not the best solution for this, but worth asking. Thanks for the thorough test
@CasualDIY Жыл бұрын
With correct settings it cuts 3mm black acrylic no issues and clean cut. Transparent acrylic may be a problem you would have to black it out first I think.

Good review. I've had this same model a few days now and like it a lot. I looked at several and chose this one because it has the smallest .06mm square focal point. According to that it has about the same energy density as a 20 watt laser with a slightly larger spot. Subscribed.
@CasualDIY2 жыл бұрын
That could be accurate. I was making few projects today with it and I can't belive how much power it packs. Got two other 10W lasers and they are not as powerful. It's for sure my cutting laser from now. However I still prefer the engraving done by OLM 3 or 2Pro maybe because I know them well and got the settings dialed it.

For cutting the Longer Ray 5, for engraving Ortur 3. However I've still not spent enough time with Longer and the engraving settings. It's just so powerful I can't belive it, hence the setting I used to use for engraving are out of the window and need to do more tests to find the sweet spot for it. I do run both lasers now to be ready for Xmas. OLM3 is engraving and Longer cutting 😅 If I could pick just the one then maybe the Longer as its cheaper and the cutting is best so far I seen for 10W module.

@CasualDIY10 ай бұрын
I to też da inne rezultaty. Niestety jest to kwestia kilku eksperymentów by ustalić najlepsze ustawienia.

When I watch videos about things I do not have much experience with , my eyes glaze over and my ADD kicks in and I quit. I would like to know for the beginner Hobbyist What is the real difference between a 5w laser vs a 10w laser, I understand there are tons of opinions on brands etc. I intend to engrave mostly, cutting has not been something I have given much thought, Is having the capability to cut thicker material something that will present itself as my skills grow?
@CasualDIY Жыл бұрын
In short, the stronger the module the thicker material you will cut at better quality and the faster the engraving and cutting will be. The better the module the better the quality of engraving and cutting

Hello :) This looks great but I still have some concern about one thing that is apparently rarely taken into account in the tests: what is the width of the kerf when cutting ? I indeed need to work with very small scales (1/320, 1/220 and 1/160) and I need for example to cut stripes of biberschwanz tiles that are only 0.5mm wide or engrave walls of bricks that are 0.5mm by 0.25mm. The kerf for me should not be a lot more than 0.06mm (as announced by the producer) on regular coloured carton (Canson) or wood-carton up to 2mm thick or plywood up to 4mm thick. Do you have any data about this kerf ? Thank you and best regards. :)

I have to admit it looks pretty good, the wife has been talking about getting one in the not too distant future to create merch (she's an author). She wants something to engrave shot glasses among other things, where as I want one that can cut 1.5mm card stock or balsa for model making. I assume from the tiles this would do the glass, but would it be too powerful for the card/balsa? I know they do a 5w laser option (i looked) but i'm curious if this one could be dialled down enough to handle it, or if it would turn it to ash...lol :)
@hythewoodworkdesigns2 жыл бұрын
Hi Colin. From previous experience, one would need to dial it down to between 10-15% & speed between 600-800mm per min. You would need to play with it obviously to get the right configuration. Hold the card down with magnets & use air assist. Hope that helps.
