Hey my man, as a leatherworker who uses a lot of punches: don't use a metal hammer to hit you punch! Metal on metal will decrease the lifetime of the tool and it looks pretty expensive. There are some nylon mallets you can buy, but I made myself a wood hammer and glued leather to one of the end, which I change as it gets beaten up. Just a tip to help save you from a few headaches in the future! Cheers

This restoration and i guess the entire "restoration" world on youtube in general, is less restoration and more "remaking" It's like restoring a classic car. You start with a rusty pile of trash and buy every single part brand new, at the end all you have left of the original is maybe a body panel or maybe a steering wheel. To some that isn't restoring - it's buying and creating a new car with an old car part attached, similarly that's what i think of this video. It is great for what it is and very pretty to see the transformation.... but it's basically creating a new pistol and kind of eliminating much of what made the old one cool....

Why does a steel gun have blue-green rust?
@mattferguson1262 жыл бұрын
It's a wierd one. He's clearly giving it a rust/verdigris paint job for clicks and a good thumbnail and I'm guessing snipping the grip as that damage doesn't seem very likely to happen by accident. The techniques are real and impressive but the presentation is ginned up for clicks. KZbin incentivises this and the video is not "fake" but there's artifice here all the same. There's no reason why there should be verdigris on it. It's not as impressive to take and old rusty item and restore it unless it looks like it was recovered from a sea wreck.
@stormycatmink2 жыл бұрын
I wondered that as well. Pretty clearly copper oxides on a non-copper bearing part. Also, why are there plier witness marks on the broken grip and clear saw and cut marks at the break, rather than torn metal? Every one of the videos from this guy seems to show signs of artificial weathering and then re-making it into modern art. That's not restoring something. It's destroying one thing and making another out of it. Sure, that's art and all, but to call it restoration and sell it as such is a lie.

Is it just me noticing that a great number of the internals of the stuff that you restoring is in very good shape? Also case with this gun. Internals and all stuff beneath surface is not rusty (beneath rear aiming sight for example).In my logic that means that it is not really an old and naturally rusted thing, but rather have something to do with some corosive supstance that turns surfaces to this condition? I'm NOT questioning your skills, you are doing GREAT job, really. I'm just wondering about your source of old things. I could also be wrong, but something is not quite wright in my logic (could also be my logic that is not right 🤨).
@byronschroedel4322 жыл бұрын
The surface pitting should reveal to you that a medium degree of natural corrosion had occurred. The air chamber would be the last thing to go because it was purposefully well sealed. I would also think that being a master rejuvenater would allow him to look at something and say it is to far gone, or it can be fixed

Ok do you know what rust cohesion is it's where different objects made of different metals in this case steel and cooper it was probably in a box or something sitting next to either a cooper sheet or pot or hell maybe even a cooper finishing hammer

Man I love just getting lost in watching you do your craft. Too bad this was way before my time a side cocking air pistol would of been cool as fuck when I was a kid. Great job man and fucking smashed the editing, never seen wielding protection added in during editing.

Может кто-то тоже заметил, что в таких роликах на предметах реставрации, какая-то неестественная патина и ржавчина, не знаю может искусственно застаривают, для пущего эффекта🤷♂️

This restoration looks like it was made for people that don't know how rust or dirt work. "Restoration" my ass. Also I wonder when airsoft was invented, because it definitely wasn't in the 1930s.

Then what did i do wrong? i also never claimed it was airsoft
@allowinoftheattic2471 Жыл бұрын
Bro, this is literally an "air gun." It uses compressed air to fire. They've been being used for a long time, they were Even used on the Lewis and Clark expedition. Airsoft uses CO2 to fire, while the air gun just uses air, air that was pumped into it for a long while, as to build up pressure.

There is no such thing as blue rust. You “aged” up a gun you bought, and then repaired it. I mean, it’s cool that you cleaned it up and stuff, but you’re not restoring anything you didn’t abuse.
@allowinoftheattic2471 Жыл бұрын
These are not made anymore man, can't buy one in a new condition. Seen a lotta things similar to this made around the same time as this, they all looked beat up and rusty.
@allowinoftheattic2471 Жыл бұрын
I'm confused. There is such thing as blue "rust." Its made by copper and other such matetials, like brass
