The Fafnir was first shown, to my knowledge, in Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries back in 2002. It is hardly a new mech by 2020/2021 standards.

To be fair, 100 tons does NOT mean "be at the front". It could also mean "High survivability damage dealer" like a 4xLRM20 etc etc. However, the 4xLB10x should be up front walking through the enemy

@Marco Creen It honestly depends on the loadout. "Assault" just means 80-100 tons. You would not expect a LRMboat to be the tip of the spear, or a 8xLB2X Direwolf- These are not the front row tanks, they are long range harassers.

@Marco Creen Honestly that all depends on the loadout and tactics. "Assault" mechs are just 80-100 ton mechs that could be frontline and tanking/nuking, or supporting the team from 2nd or 3rd line. It depends on loadout and the tactics you play. An assault mech with more "sustained but low DPS" weaponry that gets pressured into frontline tanking instead of their own preferred style and dies fast could do a LOT more harm to the team than good.

I like the Fafnir over some of the other 100 ton mechs. It's not as tall, has that ECM, and sometimes no one suspects the Fafnir Inquisition ;)

I have a Direwolf with 4 LBX 10's and I use 1 in each arms and 1 in each torso and with an XL engine which also allows backup Heavy small lasers that a killing machine..

IMO You'll never need the cool shots on this thing, it's almost heat neutral already (becomes completely neutral if you are only able to fire one side of the mech due to peeking/allies in the way). I think I put those extra points into torso twist but maybe seismic could be OK too. One of my favorite mechs/loadouts!

Hey Baradul, you should try out the Naptime Mean Baby. With MRM 120 and some backup medium lasers

There are several great MRM120 mechs. Mean Baby is huge, Fafnir Wrath might be slightly easier to play (with ECM even)

I have this and the cyclops Sleipnir with the same build its really good up close but I prefer the cyclops, nascar really is rough on this slow build you get left behind a lot.

UAC5/UAC10 might not have the damage output, but does pinpoint damage not spread like lbx, lbx has advantage in crit Chance though. The quad lbx10 Fafnir is my favourite build. The UAc10/UAC5 is the deadlier one if you can aim

Sleipnir has better mobility and hitboxes, but less armor and no ECM. My highest damage with this build vs. the Sleipnir build is vastly different. 1276dmg vs. 782dmg. ECM keeps you alive longer than the Sleipnir's mobility.
