Just saying, as a bus driver I'd hate to work on any of those lines, far too many times where we'd be trying to turn a bus around at the end of a dead end road. But in game I suppose it doesn't matter.
@britishknightakaminininja1123
@britishknightakaminininja1123 3 жыл бұрын
It still matters in a game, as it has an effect on the efficiency, the profits and costs, and whether or not people will use it. By and large, the right way to do transport is to look at where people are going to want to go, and make those routes efficient, so they'll choose to use public transport instead of their cars. Additionally, to look at long distances with few stops as being best done by trains, middle distances by metro and monorail, and small, more local journeys by bus and tram. Someone wanting to go from one place to another does not want to go 3 times the distance out of their way to change at a hub to come back to a place that should have been a short, direct bus-ride away.

Try to avoid long, snakey bus routes which only connect to an isolated area. Try to have your buses connect with other lines at many points. If you do have long, snakey lines, make sure the lines don't take long, unnecessary routes. If you have a grid, avoid having routes that snake everywhere- instead, have lines that follow certain roads. You can have the line go onto a different road, but avoid having the route go from road to road all the time. Also, put stops outside metro stations or train stations or monorail stations! Also, instead of cranking up the number of buses on a line, try to use articulated buses from the workshop. These have higher capacity and won't cause as much traffic as cranking up the number of vehicles.

I agree with everything you said, except I don't like articulated buses. I prefer double deckers. Making use of vertical space always makes your city more exciting. Let me also add that stops every other block is too frequent and slow down your line unnecessarily. Cims are quite willing to walk several blocks.
@darkshines800

Yeah, I was thinking a few times that to get the bus from one area to the adjacent one I'd have to go all the way to the hub and back out again. For me bus lines should be a bit like Olympic rings, ideally with two points of overlap if they are loops, or if they're more back and forth then should intersect with at least two other lines. The bus stations should be used as the base of a bunch of lines that fan out from that hub and intersect with a local bus for each area they cross on their way out and back

The only addition that I would add is more hub-to-hub express routes - like from the University train station to the nearby bus/tram hub then to the other train station and back again. Hubs that are very close but not walking distance can effectively act in a more joined up manner if you can make better connections between them.

Tip for bus station needs: get the Nonstop Bus Terminal asset from the Workshop - it works the same way as the vanilla bus station, but at half the size, while still having enough platforms for 5 lines. Added bonus: you have the option to allow intercity busses (same as train stations have for intercity trains) to use the station if you so wish. Added added bonus: it's actually compact enough that it comfortably fits underneath normal-height elevated roads/rail lines using anarchy for extra optimized space usage, i.e. in combination with elevated (metro or train) stations. Added added added bonus: it doubles as a bus depot. 👍

I feel you could improve interconnectivity still. All you lines are focused on one single hub, basically creating a lot of cul-de-sacs funneling transit into regional transport (Metro / Mono / Rail) just to change to adjacent neighborhoods. You could easily ad some crossover stops to change bus to bus at the end of lines (furthest point from hub), or create hub to hub lines that serve the community in between while giving access in different directions. In general give them options by creating a spiderweb not a tree structure.

The problem with the blue rail line not being able to use the main central train station is quite simple: there is no track connection between the left and right sides of the train station. I also suggest you make this connection as a separate branching off of the main east-west track, as the current ones (left and right) seem to serve way too many trains. Just to avoid any backing up on the main track when trying to turn into the stations.

You asked why the bus lane chose the longer route at 10:20, it's because you have dedicated turning lanes, and your bus doesn't have a node to change lanes in before the junction. Simply moving this bus stop back so the bus can change lane would solve this issue

17:35 biffa this industry "main road" isn't actually a main road: it's a big road, but it doesn't actually function as a main road: it ends in a dead end. That's why hardly anyone is on it, while the side streets are so busy. When you first placed that long unconnected avenue you said it was temporary and that you would fix it in the future, maybe you don't remember. But right now since it doesn't go anywhere, nobody wants to use it. If you would fix the connection it would take all that traffic off of those side streets and fix that traffic issue.

Biffa, I love your channel, but my cardiologist said my heart/stress levels can't take any more videos where you set up bus lanes! My brain surgeon also mentioned i should stop banging my head on the table when your bus lane twists around itself in some inefficient way. I guess what I'm saying is I formally request trigger/content warnings for any inclusion of bus lines!😂

I like how Biffa has put one gate on that first park area that he moved for the bus station but he has about 6 different entrances to the park area with no gates including the pre-made park connected to the road side

Name suggestion! I propose to name the area around the "spider hub" Gossamer Grove. Yes, I know there are no trees around there right now, but you can fix that in the name of Awesome Allitteration. I'd suggest building a commercial area directly around the station, and have it ringed by a nice park.

I think it would serve you well to replace that path next to the hub in no problem atoll with a hump bridge over the railway. It would make your bus lines so much better, and if it caused other traffic problems, make it for busses only.

Two points: 1. Does "reversing the buss line" also automatically adds buss stops across the street? If not, you should go around and check because there will be several (reverse) lines where the buses will keep crossing the street to get to the stop; which is not going to be good for traffic. 2. The way you have it setup now is pretty nice; but it's very difficult, if not impossible for passengers to get on a bus that starts at one station from a bus that starts at another. They'd have to walk long distances; which if the information on the stop sign operates the way it does with us, you can't even read off of that sign. It would be damn good to add an express line that goes from hub to hub only and a reverse of that line; map add one stop half-way in between the hubs, preferably close to or at an existing bus stop, but no more. And keep this bus line on the main roads though; you want to express line to be express, nice and fast, not take the scenic route.

the chai line goes into the center of tranquilitea point, but the other line only does the outside. You should add a couple more stops on the chai lines to pick up the middle of tranquilitea point.

One of the problems that you haven't addressed with the train lines is that the main station (Glass Box?) only allows trains to return the way they came. The East/West Island line couldn't find a path because there is no way to enter from the east and exit to the west. A couple of tracks to the centre platforms that complete a "Tea" junction (something that I am shocked does not already exist it New "Tea"land would then allow you to have both intercity trains and local trains that run across the map.

Great video, but think you have missed a couple of tricks, the total route for the Cims is calculated when they are thinking about car or no car, with some of your routes you are forcing them to go back to the hub to transfer lines and then come back out again, this would mean the total journey is substantially longer than even just walking... where lines pass near each other you should put stops for two different lines or more to intersect allowing Cims to change lines at those points. same as in real life why we have multiple bus lines at the same stops. The other is when planning a bus route the bus station is usually the last stop to be planned, the first ones being destinations or origin points, as in where people want to be or where people are coming from, and from those primaries you connect on a route toward the central station/hub. Doing out from the station you are missing schools or such, of all the schools in your city, by 30 minutes into the video and 3 hubs down you had only placed one stop next to one school. Child care -> Elementary School -> High School -> Homes etc Homes -> shops/work/schools Hub -> tourist spots. Transit hubs are important as you show and have shown in many videos, but without using cross over points or hitting points where cims are or where they want to be you will miss a lot of Cims who would use it rather than their cars, and you will also move traffic problems by Cims taking buses and then getting off and taking their cars from a random point near a stop rather than crossing to a different line and completing their journey by public transport. This is also part of the reason lines go two ways, i am at home the bus takes me to work, but to go back home i have to complete the whole bus route not just reverse what i did to get here... the white line at 39 minutes only goes anti clockwise meaning someone from the first stop wanting to go to the third stop is fine but if he wants to go home he has to loop all the rest of the way around to the train stop and then continue around to stop three, it is easier to take his car. Still always enjoy watching your videos.

31:34 I think you should kinda have a bus route between Orelando Heights and the industry area. At some points the stops are far away. Also add some paths right next to the new bus hub, there is long stretch with no opportunity to enter the industry area. 39:23 stop right in front of the ferry.

You need smaller bus hubs, for like 5-6 lines. They exist and some look cool. Look for it. That way you can pop one next to a train and serve a smaller area with a few lines with the longer distance being covered by a train or metro or something long distance.

At NPA, you might concider adding one extra busline to the Strawberry fields entertainment district. And maybe add a road coming from that bus terminal to the side of the University extension, so the busses (and other trafic) doesn't need to go all around the island to get to that side of the island.

There is a metro/local bus hub. To consolidate your mass transit, you could use that to replace your SparTea bus station. Then you can get rid of the extra underground metro station you put in next to the swanky train end station with the integrated elevated metro station.

Biffa, you sneaky so-and-so! You snuck in a new bus street up to Myrtle Square! Think we wouldn't notice? ;) Will be a great connection for pedestrians and cycling as well :) How about also adding a bus-only street/tunnel from that sneaky one to the end of the street by the bus terminal? Let the buses skip that long detour!

The bus doesnt turn left because there is no node between the stop and junction therefore the bus is forced to stay on lane going ahead only. Enable in TM:PE an option for buses to ignore lane arrows and they will do it only in such cases (no node to switch or lane connectors preventing it).

The issue with turning down the amount of vehicles on a line because there aren't enough people is that the frequency of pickups is taken into account with if a peep decides to use the transit or not. I believe the math is literally 'how long does it take me to get from A to B' when a peep is deciding on how to get somewhere. Public transit gets a bonus or hardly any would use it. I'm not sure if the 'switch lines' limit is still there, there used to be one where a peep wouldn't switch lines more than x times. If you're actively trying to reduce car traffic in your city, up the frequency & increase the public transit speed limits/distances (special bus/tram only shortcuts) and reduce the car speed limits. This is why I favour trams over buses, you can usually up the tram speed limit and make them faster than the car.

@7:00 I would have compressed the railroad fanout area and pushed the rail/metro hub closer to where the railroad comes in, which I think would have made enough space for a bus/metro hub to go in. Then the two underground metros could have gone into there instead of the rail/metro hub (removing the standalone underground metro station currently tucked under the rail/metro hub). The only jankiness would have been getting the elevated metro out of the rail/metro hub to where its line runs, but I don't think it would have been too bad.

Love the update of the public transport! It really needed an overhaul. But maybe add a small number of taxi 🚕 stations? I noticed that the number was only one in the stats. So maybe put them near the busy areas just to make use of them. Instead of solely relying on bus and trains/metros. Just another option should they want it.
