I’ve been waiting on the bike like this - Long distance capable without major annoyances and full on power. Prior in chasing this combo, I bought 22 KTM SAS when it came out, sold after 6 months and 7000 miles. Too adventure, not a sport tourer and nowhere near SDR’s mojo that I loved so much and couldn’t make work for long distance.. travelled out of state to ride old buddy’s Pikes Peak V4S for a full day - didn’t do it for me again. Waited on 1390 SDGT for so long, but KTM put priority on the SDR instead - their flagship I guess, when Gen 3 machine was plenty awesome already and the current SDGT is so outdated. And then BMW came through so unexpectedly. Fingers crossed I like it but taking a leap of faith a little. This review gives me good assurance though!

I have over 90 000 kms on my S1000XR in 3.5 years, and I would dearly like to order the M as a replacement, but I need the paniers and because i ride mainly highway on my commute (30% lanefiltering) the shorter end gearing is not an advantage. That being said, my SXR realy is a easy bike for my use and i always have a big ear-to-ear grin on my face after every ride. The power, the inline 4 sound, the agility. ...

Thank you Neevsy as I’ve been waiting for your thoughts on this one. At 50, I’m hanging on to my fast bikes however, realistically, as an aging ex Australian Superbike racer, this one does look the business and although overkill for the speed cameras that are everywhere, if you have the money then why not. I’d love taking one of these to my old home racetrack where I’ve done well over 1000 laps being Phillip Island raceway, attend a track day and get to a position of potentially overtaking others on Superbikes within 6 laps.

Even this MXR goes all the way it will never match the M1000R in terms of feel and agility. you will miss the M1000R and like me will toggle between naked and Super SUV (not sure how to call superbike in touring dressing).

@@bachshl ive had every gen s1000r from 2014 till 2022 and the MR in 2023, so I know exactly how that platform performs. A brilliant bike and with the ‘M’ engine it is even better. But, I’ve also had two s1000xr’s, a 2020 and a 2022 so know those bikes as well. Brilliant. My experience was that the SXR platform will do at least 90% of what the SR platform can in fast mountain riding or trackdays. The SR on the other hand will never achieve the comfort levels that the XR brings. So doing 600-700km daily legs on my road trips, the MXR will be a better bike. If I ever really miss the MR I’ll then get one next to the MXR.

Neevesey, what a legend, I'd really value your opinion! I've got an M1000XR on order and it looks like it comes on RS11. I won't be taking it on track at all so I assume the RS11s will be wasted on me. I do mainly very spirited weekend backlane scratching and one or two long tours around Europe each year. Can you recommend a good all-rounder that will suit both applications when the time comes to replace the RS11? I prefer Michelins but also don't mind Bridgestones. Doesn't look like Road 6 or T32 are available in a 200 rear so I guess I'm looking at either Power 6 or S23? How do they compare when it comes to dry grip, wet grip, and mileage? Which would you recommend overall? Many thanks!
