Yes, it’d be like he may have just realised that swearing in front of people may just offend some of them, let me say there’s a fair proportion of the people that are not offended BUT some people just do not like it and it feels like blow to the heart, especially when the Lords name ( the one they love so much) is blasphemed and used as a curse word. It’s a matter of ‘do you care about others or not?’ I have a friend who swears in front of unknown people and also little kids… just doesn’t give it a thought. It makes me feel terrible, I tell him not to do it but he doesn’t see the negative impact his crass language is having upon these people and these children 😔

Bought an '02 CBR F4i last May - it had 5300 miles on it. About 3500 in the first 3 years. Runs like a sewing machine but the rubber parts give me the fear tbh. I put braided lines on it but the fuel and cooling lines are all original... Getting the forks services and new constant rate springs fitted in 2 weeks time - asked the mechanic to give it the once over on those parts that could be close to perishing.

Thanks for that. ( I really mean it) I now know there is more I should know about ignition coils and a little of why a weak spark when tested with a plug on the outside of a cylinder may be too weak under pressure when in the cylinder.
@MrOutOfTheVoid6 ай бұрын
I'll concur with the difficulty of knowing one of the cylinders in a V4 motor is not firing. I had a disconnected coil wire on the right rear cylinder of my VFR. The bike started right up, seem to idle and run fine, but two clues came to light. These were poor MPG and when under heavy acceleration or putting load on the engine from a stop, when going up a hill for instance, you could tell something was up. The bike sat for a while due to health reasons, so when I was finally able to ride again, it took a few rides to realize and resolve the issue. Getting reacquainted with riding again and with the bike itself took a little while. All good now on both fronts. Love your videos, even with the cursing, but they are definitely more viewer friendly without the swear words. Either way, keep up the great work. Cheers

You can use a timing light to verify if the ignition on a cylinder is at least basically working. Won't give you huge detail - but if it firing reliably there is at least some spark happening. Seafoam in the tank of as parked bike and then actually riding can clear faults - some heat soak is good for the engine. Rubber head flanges/carb mounts go hard, brittle and crack with age.

Had a similar problem with a Vmax bud it was carbs related, I had the carbs off twice, cleaned them thoroughly same problem, third time I cleaned them I totally stripped and soaked them for 24hrs in acetone, rebuilt them and the bike fired up first time and ran fine from then on, main pain in the ass is refitting them each time they came off 😂, good luck with it but if you're sure it's fuelling use acetone 👍
@allanweseman54336 ай бұрын
A couple of things Jim: You use brake clean as a vacuum leak tester. In America brake clean DOES NOT BURN. Some carb cleaners do not even burn and must be flame tested first. We use aerosol carb cleaner. Also I am very familiar with the oscilloscope spark pattern from my years as a VW mechanic and in another video what I saw looked like the resistor in the sparkplug connector was bad (open circuit) I'm surprised you don't do an ohm check of the ignition wire itself.

As for the swearing, I can see both sides.... doesn't bother me, but I know lots of people who consider it unethical/amoral... And is that Really what you want to be passing onto a teen who might be interested in starting this path for a career? I mean, how does it help Anything, what upside is there (I can't think of any). Done right it can add emphasis to language, done often it usually just drags down others opinions of your knowledge/competence ~ but how does it improve diagnostic work or spanner spinning? Seems a British thing (heavy swearing), but I pretty much only have TV/movies to thank for that opinion (the few weeks I've spent in the UK on vacation didn't really match). Anyway, carry on....

I think the notion that an open secondary will damage a coil is an old wives tale. I’ve never seen a technical paper or data that supports that. However, I’m always open to data if you’ve come across a good reference that supports damage in this scenario.
@SuperbikeSurgeryTV6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment 👍 I must say I'm pretty much with you on this. I've only ever had one instance where, after lots of cranking, I've created a secondary ignition problem. In this instance, the coil was likely on its last legs already. I guess I'm just repeating what I've read in the training material I've encountered over the years. There is probably something to it, but the real issues only occur when running an engine for an extended period without a HT lead connected. I've seen the high voltage literally burrow its way out of the body of the coil over time. But as I say, do as I say, not as I do! 😁👍
