(tw depression) Forgive me if this is oversharing but I wanna say a couple things about what this game did for me. I came into p5 irl hella depressed, anxious, and basically spiraling. By the time I finished my playthrough several weeks later, I felt happy, more confident, and literally excited about living, an emotion I haven’t felt in years. Watching these characters process the trauma they’re subjected to and exploring the Jungian concepts within the story for myself gave me perspective to process my own. I can’t overstate how game-changing that has been. My first exposure to p5, really to the series as a whole, has been this video. If it wasn’t for buns and their (? sorry hope I got your pronouns right) insanely entertaining presentation, I never would have picked up the title. So from the bottom of my heart, buns , Tyler, fucking thank you. You *literally* saved my life. To anyone suffering from depression of mental health conditions, take it from me, it really does get better. Took me the better part of my life so far, but you really do start to feel happier, and life does start to feel worth living. Even if everything seems grey and empty right now and you really can’t see how that could be possible for you, it is, and you will experience it. Get good counseling (working with mine laid the foundation for everything I wrote about at the start), and pick yourself up 15,000 times if you have to (16,435 for me-yes that is accurate). Just keep waking up, just keep fighting. Love you all.

Something I'd like to bring up in relation to the whole topic of mental health at least is that there's actually a lot of benefits in both your mental and physical health by getting some exercise in at least everyday. Nothing crazy like some ultra hardcore bodybuilder weightlifting regimen mind you, but even something as simple as a 30 minute walk can do wonders for both physical health as well as mental. Hell (as I attempt to steer my topics back to the subject of the video,lol), I'd argue that playing Persona 5 in your spare time throughout the day on top of the daily dose of exercise and just generally taking care of yourself can do nothing but good in the long run. Then again what do I know, I'm just some random goober on the internet, lol.

Important tips for your first time playing Royal: Try to max out Ryuji. The skill you get from him makes the game a lot easier. Guns are a lot more useful here than in vanilla. Still not the best way to deal damage, but now more a viable option. The Reaper trick that buns noted here is not in Royal. Don't go in expecting to be able to cheese it. There are a few characters not in this video, that are in royal. Youll notice them cause they're story important too.. Try to max them out, as they are what make Royal what it is. Just trust me on this.

Kawakami can pass time for you while you're doing your Phantom Thievery, Futaba can help you navigate Mementos and give your party a Masukukaja buff, Ichiko helps you stay in Palaces longer, and Sojiro allows you to make SP-restoring items that are a HUGE help! Edit: Futaba doesn't just cast Masukukaja. She can apply a wide range of buffs, and heal or restore a fraction of HP or SP to your party.

lol i hated the reaper in persona 3. it scared the shit out of me the first time i played it and you hear chains and futa says "be careful, i sense death!" and you basically have to run for your life to the stairs and hope it doesn't catch you or hope to god you have a goho-m. and then they make a way to beat it easily in P5 and i'm caught between jumping for joy and screaming in rage.

Some tips I wanted to give for Persona 5. 1. Swift Strike is a skill you can get at, last I checked, level 19 at the earliest and, due to how the damage formula works, it's on par with end game skills. It's absolutely overpowered for when you get it. Take it and abuse it. Even against a single target, use Swift Strike. Just do it. Only don't use it if they resist, null, drain, or repel physical. 2. Bless and curse are the most important elements for Joker to carry on him. Try to always have them. Just to be clear, I mean the damaging ones, not the instant-kills. You should probably try to keep all the magic elements anyway, but at least other thieves can do the others. Bless and Curse are for Joker. 3. Hold on to Rakunda. The core party members get all the buffs and every other debuff (Morgana has Sukunda, Ryuji has Tarukaja, Ann has Tarunda, Yusuke has Sukukaja, Makoto has Rakukaja, and Haru has... Heat Riser and karns, I guess) but no one can debuff defense. Feel free to replace it with Debilitate when you can, but otherwise, this should be treated as essentially Joker's buff move. 4. For the different elements and, um, gun, there are boost and amp skills. Those are invaluable. Use them always. 5. Don't bother with single target kajas. They're the best you'll have for a bit (Ryuji buffing Joker is nice), but replace it with its Ma counterpart ASAP. Debuffs are more arguable if you want to save on SP, but I'd use the Ma versions of those also. 6. While Debilitate is awesome, Heat Riser isn't. Heat Riser only applies to 1 of your 4 party member, and even then, only for 3 turns. It's significantly worse than Luster Candy in the main SMT games. Only ever use this on Joker, but I'd recommend sticking to the Ma-kajas. 7. Buy the most expensive fertilizer you can. Feeding your plant is a free action, and getting free kindness is always worth it. 8. Try to always secure an infiltration route for palaces in a single day. You don't want to waste time. That's time you could be using towards confidants. 9. Look up the social stat requirements and try to anticipate when one of your confidants will hit a brick wall 10. A lot of passive skills are really awesome. Some of the ones that I'd recommend are resists or higher for elements, Arms and/or Spell Master, Victory Cry, etc. 11. No, not everyone does damage evenly. Ryuji and Ann are massive hitters, but Haru and, to a lesser extent, Yusuke also hit pretty hard. Morgana and Makoto are support. Bring along one, and only one, of those two at a time, making sure to switch them out when one gets tired. If you plan on beating a palace in a single day, especially early on, you'll probably go through both their SP pools. 12. If you want to grind as hard as possible, go to Momentos during flu season when you unlocked the ability to run away from fights instantly from the Star confidant. Wait around until the Reaper shows up. Fight it. It can sometimes get despair from the flu season, which will kill it for free and give you massive amounts of experience as if you actually fought it. If it doesn't have despair, just run away. It will mess you up. Don't fight fair. 13. Physical and Gun use your health instead of your SP. Let me tell you right now, this is a MASSIVE advantage. It costs way less to spam physical moves and occasionally heal them than it takes to spam magic. Ryuji, Yusuke, and Haru make SP management more efficient because they don't really need SP to be effective, just health. It also helps that HP restoring items are all over the place, but SP ones are way more rare until you get far enough for Coffee/Curry, vegetables, or adhesives to be a factor. Edit: Hey, some more tips I'm adding here that I think might he helpful. 14. Severe spells (meaning the spells above -dyne) are not worth it. On Makoto, Atomic Flare is a complete joke, since she should be using her SP for support. For Ann, Blazing Hell still burns through her SP incredibly quickly for only a marginal damage increase over Maragidyne. Just stick to -dynes. Note that the severes may be usable in specific situations in Royal (ex: a Black Frost with Spell Master would spend only 12 SP for Ice Age, so knock yourself out), but otherwise, stick with Dynes. 15. Divine Judgement and Demonic Decree are the two worst skills in the game. Don't be fooled by their end-game only availability or cool animations. Divine Judgement and Demonic Decree are skills that half the HP of a single foe for 48 SP. They also don't work on bosses. Now, compare this to Hamaon and Mudoon (which are already outcompeted by Kougaon and Eigaon), which have a 50% chance of instant-killing an opponent for 15 SP. Against a normal opponent at full health, both have an expected value of 50% enemy health. Hamaon and Mudoon also can kill enemies, which Divine Judgement and Demonic Decree will NEVER do, Hamaon and Mudoon can have their chance increased with Hama and Mudo boost, and they cost less than a third of what Divine Judgement and Demonic Decree cost.

AMEN FOR THIS COMMENT. Although I will say that on certain enemies, Demonic Decree and Divine Judgement aren't that horrible. Like, in the original game (NOT ROYAL), the skills DO work on the Twins' boss fight. Not to mention, if you're against a normal enemy that you didn't expect to be a hell of a lot stronger than you but you don't wanna run from for the sake of experience or yen, (c'mon, we've all been there, we're greedy bastards who want exp XD) cutting their hp in half is extremely helpful, so as to cut battle time in half as well and also lessen the odds of your party dying off :') So yeah, the 50% eaters aren't that bad, but only on certain enemies. So basically, *don't* just NOT use it. However, _do_ be mindful of when and where you use it, because you never know, it COULD come in handy :3

I've found that the best dream team is Ryuji, Yusuke, and Mona. Because Ryuji and Yusuke use their HP to do more damage with melee attacks, and Mona can heal, that saves a LOT more SP for Joker, which also helps you go longer without needing to leave and come back. Plus, Joker can just fuse personas for every missing element type. So the heavy physical hitters that don't use up your SP are very useful for clearing out dungeons.

I know how FOR BEGINNERS works, but fuck, as someone who has played through this game front to back, I died of laughter and reloaded my save to only die again this is so accurate and perfect. I need to sleep now, overlord Morgana is telling me I'm too tired. Only after I feed my plant though...
