With the intake T’d like that if it’s making any boost at all it’s probably pushing the extra air out the air cleaner that the engine doesn’t need, so basically this engine is stock with extra steps. It’s supposed to be forced induction, not “if you feel like it” induction

The vacuum of the engine going in is stronger than the pressure of air being forced in, won't lose anything, but he's not getting full compression going in made by the belt driven charger.. its basically acting like an electric "turbo" that's continuously on maybe getting up to 2-3psi instead of the full 15-20psi the charger should be putting out.

Defeats the purpose of a turbo.. and its not doing anything.. its connected to another inlet, so all the pressure it makes can go right out the other inlet.. The turbo outlet should go straight into the intake.. So all the pressure is forced into the motor. There isnt any pressure if there is another open end to the pipe.. it can just go out that end..

@Willybill38203 жыл бұрын
So dumb question and maybe I just don’t see it in the video………turbos/super chargers/blowers all compress air into the intake of an engine for performance gains………..you have basically a belt driven turbo with its output Tee’d into an already existing intake pipe, so any pressure you create travels towards intake but then exits left as shown out the air cleaner instead of being “compressed” and shot down the engines intake………….UNLESS, you have installed some type of flapper valve to shut off that path of flow when it starts building pressure. If you didn’t then the parasitic drain you’ve caused by adding another belt driven device has actually decreased your performance instead of adding to it. IF you did install some type of flap valve that keeps the compressed air from exiting the other breather, how much pressure are you building? IF your actually able to build pressure, much over 1 or 2 psi your going to force your engine into a lean condition unless your computer or a custom tune can add additional fuel.

This dude has spent a year and a half making a centrifugal supercharger with no compound gears inside meaning that this turbo’s turbine is only going to spin as fast as the pulley allows it too. So If your average turbo’s turbine needs 280,000 rpm to push 6-7 lbs of boost that means he’s making roughly .06 lbs of boost at 18,000. If he somehow bumps the rpm up to 28,000, as he said, he will then make .1 lbs of boost. So if 6 lbs of boost nets the average car about 30% more power. The engine in this mustang made about 195hp from the factory, he should be making about 198 hp at the crank and at 28,000 rpm he will make 200ish. That’s figuring that the air will even make it to the throttle body. He has made a glorified centrifugal superturbo air compressor intake. Sounds like the name of a new Dodge Challenger variant. I can almost guarantee the first thing he did was essentially remove half of the turbo (the housing and wheel which exhaust travels through). The second step would probably be mounting a small gear box or a pulley onto the rod that runs through the compressor side. That way instead of exhaust gas spinning the compressor side, a pulley is doing the spinning. If his pulley gear on the turbo is half the diameter of the wheel that the engine rotates, this means his turbo will spin at twice the engine RPM. If the engine is running 3,000 RPM, the turbo will theoretically spin at 6,000 RPM. In this case the turbo is spinning at (18,000 RPM?) when the engine is spinning at 4,000 RPM. This can be done if in a perfect world, his turbo flywheel is one inch in diameter and his engine flywheel is 4.5 inches in diameter. But where the project starts is knowing how much boost you want. No lag = no time where the turbo isn’t providing boost. It will always provide boost. Let’s say my engine is a 350 V8 that needs 750cfm at standard atmospheric pressure (14.7 psi). That gives me some options. If I equip a turbo that can output 750cfm at a 1:1 gear ratio to my engine (engine speed = turbo speed) than I will receive no boost. But what if I equip that same turbo but with a 2:1 ratio between engine speed and turbo speed? My turbo will now spin twice as fast. But my turbo is rated for 750cfm, and it’s spinning twice as fast than my engine, so what’s going to happen? My engine will constantly receive 1500cfm. That’s double the volume it needs. Doubling my volume is equivalent to doubling my pressure. My car is now being fed twice as much volume, or twice as much pressure (equivalent). This means that instead of receiving 750cfm at atmospheric pressure, my engine is receiving 1500cfm at atmospheric pressure. Another way of saying it is my engine is now cramming double as much air into my cylinders, which means I can cram twice as much fuel as well. 1500cfm at 14.7 psi = 750cfm at 29.4 psi. That is literally 14.7 pounds of boost. I don’t think my engine would survive with that much consistent boost. Most cars run best with continuous boost around 5-9 psi, not 14.7 psi. A faster spinning turbo may wear out sooner so get a bigger one that doesn’t have to spin as fast to pump the same amount of air. That way the turbo can spin closer to the engine RPM. Let’s talk about waste gates and all that jazz related to turbos: you don’t need any of that anymore. When the turbo was mounted directly to the engine pulley, it became a supercharger. And if my turbo spins 1000 RPM while my engine spins 500 RPM, you know that my engine spinning 1000 RPM means that my turbo will spin 2000 RPM, assuming a 2:1 ratio. If my engine can burn all this air, than I will never need to blow off any extra air regardless of speed or acceleration. It’s proportional.
