Great content mate. Lockdown got me making props at home to use for my online kids classes. I’m just making one out of pool noodles, towels, small beanbag weights, an old Hose, a couple of wooden broom handles but since we don’t have a proper grappling dummy skin, we gotta improvise with a Hoodie and Sweat Pants. Much respect, and thanks for the inspiration.

Great instructions, thanks! Where can I get get 30 lbs of shredded clothes? Or would it be easier to use something like sand?
@efficiencyjiujitsu417bjj23 жыл бұрын
I cheated and used old punching stuffing. Sand will be extremely hard to manipulate, and will probably leak through the seams. I would find an old punching bag, or go to the Goodwill and buy 35 lbs worth of old clothes. The punching bag is way easier.

This is probably the best dummy tutorial I’ve seen. It’s been close to 9 months since you created this video. In all honesty, how often have you used it since? Was it worth it? Or is it collecting dust somewhere?
@efficiencyjiujitsu417bjj24 жыл бұрын
I use it almost daily. I have a routine during my morning workout to do a couple drills on it. I don't use it for a super long time, just consistently. I will have a video out tomorrow regarding updates to the dummy design, and my review of it.

How effective has it been beyond ground work, i.e. 1) throws 2) punching 3) kicka
@efficiencyjiujitsu417bjj23 жыл бұрын
It is not very effective for anything but ground work and certain takedowns. You can punch it, but the material is much thinner than a typical heavy bag. I only use mine for ground work and rolling takedowns.

@efficiencyjiujitsu417bjj24 жыл бұрын
Horatio Redgreenblue yes, but you will have to configure the knees differently than the way I did. If you cut the pex at the knees so it can kneel, you can throw on any subs from guard. I get the most use on the dummy doing kimura traps from top, but you will find your way. Good luck!

Efficiency Jiu Jitsu 417 BJJ so I’ve been playing with the idea of buying a cheap Halloween skeleton (tallest I can find is 5’6”) and screwing in a bunch of springs at the major joints. A cheap skeleton might not work, so I may end up making my skeleton out of PVC. Not sure what I’ll do to keep the bones together or what I’ll use for the hip if the Halloween skeleton doesn’t work. Just thinking out loud here... I’m not particularly handy, but this whole COVID-19 thing is really making me miss BJJ.

@efficiencyjiujitsu417bjj25 жыл бұрын
Christopher A - I cheated and just pulled the shredded clothes out of an old MMA dummy that we weren’t using. The best way is to find a punching bag that is torn up that no one is using, but it for $5 or $10, and fill it with the stuffing. Cheap unused bags can be found at garage sales, Craigslist, etc... otherwise just stuff it with shredded, unusable clothes from your stash or the goodwill. Or... if you are near Springfield MO, you can stop by the gym and we can hook you up with some.

How stable is it for holding its position? Can it sit in your closed guard for triangle and armbar drills?
@efficiencyjiujitsu417bjj24 жыл бұрын
It will not hold a kneeling position. This is one of the reasons I am making one with an articulating knee. I am building it today. Stay tuned, I will release the video in the next couple days. Theoretically a good idea, but this way the dummy loses its „knees“, and to be frank, a kneeling dummy for BJJ would be füthr much more natural position.
