Loading angle/breakover fix: Tongue jack. Leave trailer disconnected from tow vehicle, use jack to lift tongue of trailer, put land speed car on, use jack to lower tongue onto tow vehicle hitch.
@dfabeagle718
@dfabeagle718 2 жыл бұрын
Yep! BTDT. Except you don't necessarily have to disconnect it - most of them are strong enough to lift the back of the tow vehicle several inches. The one on my car trailer will get close to lifting the rear end of an F150 off the ground. Alternatively, a couple of 2x12xWhatever the length of the Honda is could get double duty as longer flatter loading ramps and be Honda sized decking (quick mount, bolt them down.)

I see many laptop comments. That's on the fly tuning. Megasquirt always has some problems with the crank sensor. A VR sensor works on most applications, but the Hall Effect sensor is more reliable. There is a lot of noise with the VR sensor, especially if the air gap is too large and at high rpm. If the resistor doesn't fix the problem, switch to the Hall sensor. This was a lot more reliable for me. Also, if you are using a MSD, it wont trigger below 70 rpm.

Here's one tip to preserve your car. Cover the sidewall wheels of the trailer on the inside with some plastic. Due to the aerodynamics at this point all kind of debris or sand will hit the frame or the electronics and especially when it rains water will get into the smallest space. Little work for a big effect especially when the S600 will be on it.

I see so many people messing up SO BAD with trailers and towing. It's refreshing to see someone who knows what to look for and how to do it. If you ever need to change the trailer angle, don't be afraid to put down the tongue jack and crank it up while you're hitched to your truck. As long as you aren't going crazy high, it should be good. Or add a lock-pin and hinge like the small tilt bed trailer that I have. It's how I get it up while driving the lawn tractor on. Best part is I don't need ramps.

Some blocking under the trailer jockey wheel (front wheely thing) or one with a much greater range of extension would allow you to tip the trailer all the way down and eliminate the ramp break over problem I’d imagine. Be sure to chock the trailer wheels when you do this. Once loaded, drive the car in to position and lower the trailer using the jockey wheel, directly on to the tow hitch.

I borrowed a friend's HF Pittsburgh engine hoist and the steel casters annoyed me so much that I replaced the wheels with urethane ones. I eventually bought my own HF hoist (same model) and stopped at the caster store (yes, I live near a caster store [Oxford Caster in West Hartford, CT] and I go there fairly often) on the way home from HF. Absolutely worth the effort and cost it rolls so much more smoothly and quietly on hard surfaces! Notes: -there are 2 different sized wheels, that only differ in diameter by 1/2 an inch. Get the right amount of each. -the caster bases and forks themselves are an odd size, so you're keeping them (they usually need greasing) and just replacing the wheels.

Enjoy your videos and generally agree with your assessment of Harbor Freight products. Just wanted to let you (and other) know about that trailer. I have that exact trailer from HF. It folds up so it can be easily stored in a garage and I have had it for at least 4 years. It is rated for 1750 lbs but I have had a full ton on it (rocks, dirt, gravel, wood flooring) many times and it has had no issues. So, for a cheap trailer, it has done a great job. Gives me the ability to have the capability of a pickup truck with only my Jeep. FYI for anyone that might be wondering. Thanks for sharing your shop projects!

We back our tow rig onto some ramps when loading our racecar to help with that angle. Cheap 1’ ish plastic ramps make a big difference.

I've used the HF trailers, different ones/models, and they are the real deal. I've WAY overloaded repeatedly...zero issues.

Trailers... Thought I'd replace the lightbulbs with LEDs... Turns out the LEDs need resistors for the car to understand them. So many wires to mount in such an awkward position. 5/5 would recommend (to my enemies). But congratulations on the first drive! Must be such a great feeling after all the work you put into it.
