2.8 standard without any engine mods is great but personally I think Toyota should have put the 300 series engine and transmission into 79 series, lot of people now say that 79 series is just another expensive 106 hilux now with a 2.8 motor

No they wont, so you go and buy the hybrid v6 tacoma that is being released. They will be a flop, as people prefer the RAMs, silverados and F250, because if you have that kin of money you wont that V8 or big diesel taste and smell. The new CEO wants more electrification and hybrids so thats the way toyota is heading even the new, the new SE concept was just released to to prove that. We might be lucky and get a GR version with a single turbo V6 diesel, so hold your cash till that happens.

Well the comparison is the fact that the highly modified V8 isn’t much better than a factory 2.8 if the v8 was factory it would be a very sad look for it.

Not sure why the comment section is so mad. If you want a v8 you can and will still get low kms examples for awhile to come and if you like the 2.8 good news you can still order them brand new and they're coming with a manual transmission soon. I don't get what all the hate is about. up until recently you could only get the 70 platform in a v8, you didn't have a choice and now you do. I would imagine most people in the market for such a vehicle aren't 12 years old where its important they're dad can beat up your dad or they're toys are better than yours. Grow up.

@australia-ukraine
@australia-ukraine 3 ай бұрын
Honestly, this isn’t a real test-it’s just a marketing trick to attract more customers to the 2.8 model. Superior engineering won’t favour the V8 much longer, as its production has been halted due to new agenda reasons. You guys emphasise the modified V8 against the standard 2.8 without mentioning that the V8 comes from the factory nearly at the lowest point of its potential in an under-tuned version, while the 2.8 is already pushed close to its maximum performance. I’m sure you know this but choose not to say it. In short, it’s more about marketing than actual performance. V8 is always the winner, noithing personal just pure engineering (not superior 😉)

@@Andrew-hu1bx Oh, my insecurities! I laughed so hard at that one, I almost missed the part where the LC 70 with the V8 went on pause in 2022 because of-you guessed it-sky-high demand. Not much of a 'laughing stock' when everyone’s scrambling to get their hands on one, eh? For a dose of reality, I owned an LC VDJ76 from 2015 to 2022. Bought it for $75k, and sold it seven years later for $83k with 150,000 km on the clock. Seems like the joke’s on those who bet against it, wouldn’t you agree? Since then? I tackled the Simpson Desert, Cape York, and an off-road adventure from Cairns to Hobart and back through central Australia-all off-road-with that very LC 76. Not a single hiccup. As for my LC 79 Series, I waited two years to get it-and yes, it was worth it. So far, it’s living up to its reputation as Australia’s most popular off-road vehicle. So, what exactly are you talking about? Maybe it’s time to take a step into objective reality-or book that doctor’s appointment.

Simply put, to make the test fair, let’s avoid engineering nonsense by claiming that the 2.8 is better than the 4.5. From the factory, the V8 comes in an under-tuned state, just at the lowest point of its performance, whereas the 2.8 is adjusted to its maximum, likely to expire right after its warranty period ends.

I agree. The 1KD had a reputation for cracking pistons when working hard and although the 1GD is meant to be better, I’ve heard they still can crack pistons when worked hard. Obviously the 70 series is heavier and less slippery through the air than the Hilux and Prado and people use them generally for heavier towing so time will tell if they do this long term reliably. There’s a lot of stress being spread among those 4 pistons as compared to the 8 in the V8.
