Pro gamer tip: I always backup my game save file before I do anything that involves modifying the game with 3rd party apps. You can do whatever you want, even accidentally delete all your characters, and when you delete the steamapps text file you just copypasta your save files back to the game save folder and it’s like nothing ever happened!

I think Michael Zeki really intended a fair and balanced enviroment where some people can just mindlessly spam items that are so rare most people have never even seen nor used them. I watched The_Main (DS1 tryhard) play through ER for the first time, around the end of the game he asked if the Radahn arrows were the best in the game. I said the golem arrows were the best and it turned out that despite killing like every golem archer in the game at least once by that point he haven't had a single golem arrow drop.

I got a ban when I relaunched my game online after editing the save. I didn't do anything cheaty (even though any use of such tool is a breach to the rules). That really sucks, because i'll miss the pvp activity at the DLC launch.

The truth is that nobody knows, plenty of people have gotten away with it, some people have been banned, I’m not sure if the banned kids were just running cheat engine without EAC disabled or if they just modified their save file in a way that was detected by EAC, kinda hard to say.

yes but they would have to modify the code because using dll injection definitely be detected and result in an insta-ban, but if you’re already that familiar with the souls engine and EAC then you wouldn’t even need a program like this

Cheat Engine isn't malware, it gets marked as a false positive because of how it hooks into other programs. If you downloaded it off of some sketchy site that's on you. You also need to be careful not to rush through the installation of any free program, because they generally bundle potentially unwanted programs in the installation. Some of those PUPS could be considered malware in of themselves, but CE itself is not malware. You're fine as long as you understand basic safety procedures.
