Superman is Too Overpowered and Here's Why

Superman III is an absolute TANK and nobody can stop him. But that's okay I guess.

I thought this video was going to be about superman being over powered in the justice league movie. idk why you are talking about an old movie like superman 3. I think justice league deserves to get trashed for having an over powered superman in a supposedly team up movie who makes the rest of the team look useless.

There is something known as the Superman Dilemma which is when a character is so powerful it causes no suspense or tension

Yes. But 😂 There is a target audience for that and I think pretty much everyone can enjoy it, when they choose to give it a try. The tension in these cases is often generated by a catastrophe going down and the all mighty hero not being there yet. You know the hero will safe everyone, but he's still busy doing other stuff. You witness so many superhuman feats and the questions are: Is it gonna be enough? Does he have to decide who to safe? Son Goku is a good example of that. Mainly because his character and the DragonBall universe have more depth than the early Superman universe. In DragonBall you are watching him getting stronger exponentially and growing with his challenges exponentially.

@@sekroyssektor4151 tension that is consists primary of "will superman get there in time, or will he save so and so in time" is a really boring and overplayed dynamic. watching a full movie about a nearly unbeatable superhero is one of the most uninteresting story plots ever in a superhero story. It's even worst when you have a TEAM up movie like justice league where the mvp pretty much makes the rest of the team look completely useless. What is wrong with having a more balanced superman who is strong but doesn't completely outclass the rest of the justice league. I'm sick of supe stans trying to defend that crap.

I've always thought Superman was too powerful. Don't get me wrong, I found the first two Superman movies entertaining, but at the end of the first movie were he flies faster than the speed of light and reverses time is a perfect example of the problem the character has always had. It's also been a problem of DC Comics in general. Their characters and stories were always a bit corny. I've always been more of a Marvel fan. Marvel characters are superhuman, but they're not all powerful. Marvel characters also have human flaws as well. Would it be so terrible if Superman's speed was limited to the speed of light? Couldn't he use some of the Kyptonian technology in his rocket ship or Fortress of Solitude to supplement his powers and do things he couldn't do himself, like travel at warp speed or visit the past? Couldn't he have a library of Kyptonian knowledge in his Fortress of Solitude that would help him build such machines? I just think it would make Superman a more interesting character if he had some limitations on his powers that he has never had. I also think it would make for some more interesting story writing for the character as well.

Superman definitely feels pain. He just has an incredible threshold for it. There's a villain who can hurt him with just punching. But for the most part, Superman is nigh invincible.

Ye, Supes is definitely OP. But, he was created in 1938 and was the first superhero so I feel they gave him every power. They definitely should have revised his powers over the years.

Its a part of his character that he is over powered, usually a good superman story is more about him being able to live in the human world and the more clark kent, emotional side than the super hero aspect, but it depends on the kind of story the writer is trying to tell about him

Wich is why I much rather read a batman comic, because vunrabilitys show character development the less you have the less your grow, all we see time and time again is superman encountering another overpowered being bringing him down to size only to ultimately lose to him anyway, his defining trait is being overpowered and he lacks the interesting character aspect in a superhero, most of his pain comes from losing those close or having them in danger wich is a huge superhero cliche and doesn't make him unique at all

I think whoever wrote Superman wrote him into a corner. His initial abilities, tank bullets, runs as fast as locomotives, leap tall buildings, was already OP. Just based on that power set, he already far outclasses the common criminal...so where do you go? Now the writers have to come up with more oulandish stakes and more powerful villains. As a result they have to add more abilities to Superman to show how powerful he is and have him triumph..eventually you get to a point where you're just trying to top yourself to keep the character interesting...that's where Superman is. He went from those initial powers to adding heat vision, and ice breath, and faster than light travel - it's just too damn much - to the point it's just ridiculous. He's a Mary Sue.

No your wrong he isn't your typical superhero. He's deals with emotional conflict not physical conflict.which makes him so interesting. And no he's not a Mary sue. You don't understand the character and your someone who will continue to agure and not give the character a chance.

I think the movies overpower him. They misinterpret his power and since it’s been done over and over no one questions it and it sucks ass usually because once they over power him, they run out of ideas. Superman originally could ONLY do the things you heard in the opening of the serials. Faster then a speeding bullet, more powerful then a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. LEAP, not FLY…but every new interpretation adds something. Let’s make him fly…ok sure. Let’s give him x-ray vision…umm ok, freeze breath…heat vision…and eventually it goes overboard. His story is really simple. Our rich atmosphere gives him power…he’s not a God…people have made him a God and it’s overkill.

"can you even shoot through superman?" really? have you never read anything about superman before watching that movie?? and items that are magic(Shazam, Black Adam) he will lose to no matter what, kryptonite, psychological(mental) he sometimes has weaknesses to. In the 3rd it was corrupted kryptonite which messed with his head. The 3rd was bad too, and the 4th one was terrible, so you're right on that.

I know you r not a comic fan so like at least to the best of my ability I will attempt to explain this relatively shortly, the whole point of superman as a concept is not so much based on the trials he faces through battle but in his life, and that even as the most powerful or at least one of the most powerful beings in his universe he still fights for good purely cause that's who he is, he's hope personified that is why he doesn't loose, even after the death of two father's and being killed before and coming back or whatever his various writers over the years put him through at his core he is just a dude from Kansas who wants to do good for the sake of doing good even if it costs him his happiness and free time and any semblance of a normal life, until recently where in the books he now has a son and stuff is a bit different but that core premise tends to stick with each incarnation for the most part, other than alternate universe storylines but those are all meant to demonstrate how necessary the concept of Superman is in that universe. Hope that helps and to be fair to you, until like 2 years ago I thought superman was to op and a bit dumb then I read all star superman and superman for all seasons and this opinions changed greatly, also yes superman 3 sucks big time.
