2:03 is one of those rare moments where a near-fall almost ruins a take but ends up making it absolutely perfect. Chris was too far off his centre of gravity for that to have been intentional but the fact that he didn't flinch at all and stayed in character...BOSS.

And this right here is what nullifies the whole "All he does is put on glasses, that's stupid" argument. It's far more than just the glasses. There were two completely different people here, and yet still the same man. Shows why Chris Reeve will always be the standard that every Superman will be held to. And none will meet.
@DanK123

Actually no they're the same person. He's playing the same person. It's Superman hiding his identity and acting clumsy. It's a critical difference...especially to an actor. Chris was corrected on this by the brilliant Tom Mankiewicz who rewrote Superman the Movie for Richard Donner and really found the magic. He's ALWAYS playing Superman. Because of Writers Guild BS Donner couldn't give Tom WRITER credit, so they came up with CREATIVE CONSULTANT.

@Hollowdarling
@Hollowdarling 5 жыл бұрын
It's not a secret. It's true. The reason he's so naturally clumsy is because he has to be overly careful, having to act weak all the time and be aware of your unlimitations makes you over do things like acting like a weak dweeb. Watch DBZ when Goku and Gohan are training their Super Saiyan powers by not trying to tone em down to a human level. They can't even drink from a cup without being clumsy and breaking it.
@Hollowdarling
@Hollowdarling 5 жыл бұрын
@Roborav except that's a hiccup from the movie. In the comics Clark was a nerd since he was a kid, he was clumsy because he had to be overly careful of his strength. The movie is based on the comics. The filmmakers most likely didn't even realize the hiccup within the scriptwriting that adult Clark doesn't match young Clark.

Superman and Metropolis Clark are both acts. Clark is more himself in Superman 3 when he visits Smallville and Superman 4 when he’s trying to sell the farm.
@matineyang
@matineyang 5 жыл бұрын
@Roborav Kal El has been Clark his entire life. He grew up in Kansas as Clark. He had his family and friends as Clark. He just over exaggerates the clumsiness in Metropolis because if you grow up a farm boy where there's an open environment you'd be a little cautious not to break through a door frame or knock someone over as you bump against them. Superman is the costume that Clark puts on not the other way around.
@matineyang
@matineyang 5 жыл бұрын
@Roborav Clark has three personalities.There's reporter Clark who's clumsy and unsure of himself, Superman in all his grandness, and humble farm boy Clark. So you're telling me he's more so Superman than the farm boy? Would you think he's that way around Ma Kent who probably knows him more than any other person especially in these movies?

I haven't seen Quest for Peace for a long time but to my surprise I actually really enjoyed this scene, and Christopher Reeve is excellent. But if we compare it to when Lois first interviews Superman in the first film, there really is no comparison. The music, the lighting, the camera angles, the styling, it's all inferior. And Margot Kidder looks tired and seemed to have lost her energy.

This movie had elements that could have worked. The story seems to have progressed. They needed a REAL villain though. Bare in mind this movie was only five years before Doomsday and Brainiac hadn't even been on screen. III should have been Brainiac, IV should have been Metallo. I don't care what people say, I always thought about what a Donnerverse Death/Return of Superman movie would be like. Had Reeve not had his accident, they could have made it in '95 and sent him off properly.

Saddens me this is the last Superman movie Reeve and Kidder did. Wish they made one more before Reeve had his accident

Someone told me years ago there was talk of a 5th Superman with Chris Reeve and the villain Brainiac this was way before Brandon Routh showed up or before Chris's accident but Chris turned it down i dont know if that was true but i did buy a magazine called NOT of this earth in early 1994 cause Chris was in it and he said he felt he was TOO Old to play Superman and Superman lll was originally supposed to had been his last the nuclear weapons theme appealed to him so he decided to make number 4 this interview was exactly one year before the horse riding accident.

Clark should've left with Lacy. He had the perfect excuse to avoid doing the double act.

Mariel Hemingway is gorgeous! Superman IV aged nicely with time. Not so much the effects, but the nice reminder that the film is still Superman. It still excels in Superman moments, and overall feel. Whereas 2013's Man of Steel is a steaming pile of horseshit that is a pure contradiction of the iconic character.

I don’t get all the criticism of this movie - even by Jon Cryer. It wasn’t perfect, no, but it wasn’t that bad and it was NOT horrible....
