Glad to see you back on KZbin, looking forward to future projects

Thanks man! Turns out I have some extra time during quarantine and I'm trying to keep busy with projects. So much on my plate, but I really do miss making videos and keeping projects moving forward.

Can't help with adhesives, but if you're unsure on the leather vs vinyl decision, vinyl boot uppers were used on the film whenever Supes had to interact with water (so the boots wouldn't turn darker than the rest of the costume) so vinyl would be accurate to certain scenes. Same with the cape, with the wool backing being switched to something else (polyester?) to keep closer in color while wet. None of this probably helps, but it's all I've got!

Penny! I know exactly the boots you are talking about. If memory serves, Propstore of London had one on their website a while ago and I managed to snag all the pictures. That was one of my first close up looks at the boot, now that I think about it. Glad to know there's another detail hound out there when it comes to superman returns! Thank you for watching my video and commenting!

Try cutting a grid into the fabric and inside of the sole to give the glue something to grab onto. Just a lot of small cuts and such to rough up the surface. Then try E6000 glue to ensure a strong bond

Good job on the sole of the superman returns boots 👍👍👍👍👍

Thank you! it was a rare treat to get my hands on a set of production made boots, and I took full advantage of it. Please subscribe to my channel as I will have more updates on the suit soon!

What about using the casting urethane as a glue?
@ApAcVideoWatcher4 жыл бұрын
This was fun to watch. For the texture, depending on how the original was pieced together/what it was pieced together with, I'd think they either used a stamp, mesh, screen to imbed texture or literally adhered the textured surface since many fabric hybrids of a variety of textured are available these days. Since the original wouldn't need to survive it could be embossed chipboard or foam that was sealed decently. The original would be cool to see. Not sure I can help on the adhesive, but I wonder if a high quality pressure adhesive might work nicely since you could get in there and really smooth the leather into place. Some are made to withstand a lot of pressure. I look forward to seeing more. 😺

Thank you for the insights! Its super hard to tell how they did the textures. I need to ping one of my sculptor friends. It's probably some super simple technique that is just foreign to me, a non sculptor. I've gotten some great suggestions from a recent FB thread on the topic of adhesives, and I've ordered a slew of things to try. Stay tuned, as I will of course post an update once I have run the next batch of tests. Based on what I have learned, I am very optimistic!

I would suggest scuffing the surfaces with a rough - maybe 80 grit - sandpaper. Should allow the glues to 'bite' into the materials much better. Would make an easy next test :)

Excellent suggestion and it seems as if we are psychically linked, good sir! For the very first test I did, I applied directly to the urethane, but for all the following tests, including barge and dap, I used the exact sand paper you recommended and really went to town on it. Mixed results. A recent facebook discussion has pointed me to four alternative adhesives that are on order right now. Stay tuned for an upcoming video where I test them out. Based on the insights I have gotten from friends, I think I am on the right track for future tests!

May i ask, what kind of PU you used for the soles?

I'm a size 11 can you make me a pair when you make yours ? What about trying a 3d printer version.
@TheProjectWorkBench4 жыл бұрын
I'm only making a pair for myself, I'm sorry to say. I thought about scanning them, resizing, then 3d printing, but I would no doubt lose a lot of the fine detail of the boot, and also I like the fact that they have production made lineage. So they will be big on me, but they will be the real deal :D
