Not really, If you look at Marvel for instance the All-New Captain America was an one-off. Lots of New characters starts on limites series and the go to a more lasting one, or don't comeback at all and was Just filling a hole, that's comics, baby.

What I find interesting about all this is that Taylor can write a REALLY good Jon Kent, his DCEased Jon Kent is fantastic. But he's too focused on delivering a social message and lacks solid pacing. Having a social message is fine, but Taylor has been way too heavy handed in his writing (one of the many issues that Howard's Catwoman has as well). And man, the creative talent for the main two Superman books is the best since Rebirth.

Yeah I think he got a bit too complacent and opportunistic with Son of Kal-El. With books like DCeased, he's focused on writing the best story and writing the characters in the best way. With SoKE, he wants to make it as relevant without caring too much about anything else. Since Adventures is a limited series, I hope the story and writing's more solid.

It’s been nice getting hyped for Superman again with everything announced with MOS2, action comics, and now this. Can’t wait for Williamson’s Superman as it seems like it’s gonna be in the vain of Tomasi’s run. Also like that Parasite and Lex are getting spotlight again as they’ve been lacking in some stories for a while now. I’m also liking the idea of Lois taking over the Daily Planet as it’s something I always wanted to see and would work really well to show how she progressed as a character

I agree with what Wes said over at Critical Think on KZbin. Jon Kents Superman was not only more of a romance/sjw style comic, but only the comic seemed to focus on his boyfriend than himself. I will NEVER EVER read Son of Kal-el again. Nor read the mini series. It made me uncomfortable to read. Everything seemed to forced, to political and no REAL action. I also did not like how they made Jon smarter than Lex, with the chess match, and basically superior to Superman with the speed race they had. Its just aweful.

I have a lot of hope for Joshua Williamson and Jamal Campbell's Superman relaunch. I agree that Josh works better with solo characters than team books. I would've liked to have seen someone like Dexter Soy or Xermanico or Lee Weeks as the artist but I like Jamal's art. (Hopefully Josh is the one that brings back Clark's secret identity). As for Jon Kent vs Ultraman, too little too late. This should've been the story from DAY ONE.

I like Jon and I really wanted him to be DC’s Golden Child, where he gets to explore all the corners of the DC universe as he learns and grows what it means to be his own person (like the World Without a Justice League) but the age jump stunted his potential as a character. Especially when CONNER KENT is getting a short end of the stick being OLDER than Jon but stuck being on Young Justice and being Superboy. THERE IS NO REASON CONNER COULDNT MENTOR JON.

I stand by connor being superman's son, not his brother. Jon needs a big brother figure to help guide him. They still haven't expanded on the fact that jon is supposed to be stronger than clark, and theoretically have additional or evolved powers; we've already seen indications of this back when he shared his power to fly with cathy(?), the alien girl he's friends with from Hamilton county. There's unbelievable potential there in having connor help jon navigate new powers that his dad doesn't have and doesn't know how to help him.

Personally all I want is the return of my boy Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy back to his original 10 year old self and to basically forget all of this horrible nonsense from bendis and taylor ever happened, heck if battle of the super sons proves a young Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy back to his little 10 year old self and Damian wayne robin works in animation and is a great movie by the way. Then I think its time for DC to finally admit there mistake and deage my boy Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy back to his rightful age and let him experience his childhood the right way and let him go to school reunite with kathy aka beacon and become best friends again experience how to control his powers and learns how to be a great hero from his friends and family, also a bonus seeing him talking to other kids like Irey and Jai west wally's kids and becoming best friends with them and forming a new team of super kids would be freaking aweosme and badass and open the door for more fun adventures with all of these characters at least in my opinion plus would be a major goldmine for everybody involved but that's just my opinion.

The best thing dc could do with jon is one of two things (off the top of my head): 1. They pull a lena luthor and have jon die or something, however as a reward for Superman he's brought back as the innocent boy he was before his grandfather took him and robbed lois and clark of raising their son. 2. This jon is from earth-3 and our jon is still trapped there (this would explain his passivity during his tenure as superman), and instead of being 16 he's 12 maybe (since some time has to have passed, but again this would still let jon grow up and be raised by his parents) At the end of the day this jon HAS to go, and tomasi and gleason should be brought back to finish their run that was stolen by bendis. However dc has the collective mental faculties of an elementary school special needs class, so they won't do this and probably just keep bleeding readers and fans. Also, this is a sidenote I want Chris Kent back. I'd love to see a series where chris and jon have to learn to get along and become brothers and the future heirs to the superman mantle. That's my only real gripe about tomassi's run, if they were gonna bring lor-zod back he should've rejoined the Kent family

Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Joshua Williamson is a solid Action Comics-Superman duo. Really hyped with AC focusing on the Super-family, multiple stories with back ups by writers like Dan Jurgens and Superman being a classic, fun solo book. Finally, we might get a team better than the Rebirth era. Do hope Peter Tomasi comes back for Jon in the future too though.

It's a shame, really. Jon, as a character alone, is actually a good character. It has nothing to do with his orientation but more with how it was presented. Do I want to see Jon become the next Superman? Yes...but only if it is done right and not hamfisted. Is his sexuality an issue? No, so long as it is done right. Also...as a bisexual man, myself....I was kinda disheartened that we never got to see a real journey of his self-discovery. It was basically Iceman with XMen all over again....and rather insulting. Their biggest mistake with Jon Kent was aging him up. Jon, when he was still a kid, was VERY popular and loved. The Super Sons books were absolutely amazing and it was great to see kid superheroes be KID SUPERHEROES. There is a reason why those books sold so well and were well-loved. Kids getting into shenanigans and adventures and not lecturing people on their ideologies is how it should have been. Then Bendis happened. That's where it all went downhill. Okay...dissertation over.🤣

Why would they cancel such a great storyline I've been following the story since issue 1 of this series of comics. I'm not much of a comic book reader. I was looking forward to reading issue 18 and seeing the story through to the end. I don't care if Jon Kent is bisexual and has a boyfriend that part of the faded into the background I really liked all the characters. I think people need to be open minded about the world is today.

Now that John Kent will get his new powers after the Lazarus planet event you know he might actually stop being gay right. There's a rumor going around that his boyfriend's hair is actually pink kriptonite and if John's new energy powers are actually the same as wen Clark had them back in 1997 the regular and all times of kriptonite don work on him anymore. I actually hope John ends up keeping his new energy based powers after the event and don't revert back so he can become his own hero alongside his dad but with a different powers set to superman and no longer a copy of him. By the way right now the only Superman book I'm actually waiting for is Superboy Man of Tomorrow with Connor Kent as the lead.

Jamal Campbell is a FANTASTIC artist. Sadly he's been given mediocre books to work on wasting his talent. Finally he gets Superman! YES!!! Superman getting back his secret identity would be perfect. And don't do a Crisis reset or some weird alternate universe thing. It's real easy, just have someone with reality warping powers make every person on Earth simply forget that Clark Kent is Superman. Then erase all media with the same information. I was hoping that at some point Jonathan Kent would be revealed to be an imposter. That he's actually the son of Ultraman and Superwoman of The Crime Syndicate. (Someone else proposed this possible theory awhile back.) Jonathan did tell a weird story about accidentally traveling to Earth 3 via a wormhole and being captured by Ultraman. What if he lied and it was just Ultraman's son who wanted to get away from his evil Dad and live the good life. Then we could actually get the REAL Jonathan Kent back later...and he'd be younger.

@Will N Sadly, "time travel shenanigans" would be the easiest /cleanest way to fix everything. Have Clark travel back in time to just before he revealed his secret to the world and...stop him from doing it. All the important people still know who he is, Lois, Wonder Woman, Batman, but the world never learns his secret. However I agree with you. Some mega powerful cosmic being, perhaps the Presence himself, could just reset everything with a snap, or blink, or whatever Gods do.

Tom Taylor did everything Bendis did to Jon to Jay in order to reveal that Jon has actually been the New 52 Superboy this whole time, and a big plot point in Adventures of Superman Jon Kent will be the teenaged Jon getting sucked into the multiversal/temporal nexus event in Superboy 2011 #33 where he will find the younger Jon Kent among all the other versions of themselves dropped here from the moment Teen Jon remembers right before he was sucked into Earth-3 as explained in Superman (2018) #8. Edit: The first obvious step in this direction will be Jon reawakening his telepathy. I expect this will happen next issue.

Honestly I think Williamson might be either a better choice, or a much worse one. Justice League Odyssey, what little he wrote of it, was a big pleasent surprise. His Flash though was a Bendis book with better dialog. Utter blandness. With the first volume of Son of Kal-el FINALLY comes out I'm checking it out, but my expectations are at the bottom. Campbell though is great. I think he does better on covers than on the story, but he did a pretty good job with Far Sector.

Just because a book is cancelled doesn't means the reason was just because sell bad. By this logic I guess Tomasi Superman run was actually terrible since it was also cancelled and the writers. Jon Superman isn't going anywhere. His comic is being relaunch in new miniseries. DC isn't cancelling the book because it was failure or because they share fans nonsensical hate for Taylor (seriously, even the worst book of the guy were even terrible to the point of him deserving such hate), they cancelling because that's what most company do nowadays, cancelling them for a new relaunch. It's flaw in industry in present day.

I think this is the most accurate interpretation. Number ones sell way more than an issue of a series that's been going on for awhile. Don't forget, Damian's book was also cancelled and getting miniseries spin offs. Even though I would love to have kid Jon back, I don't think this cancellation is in anyway unique.
