Thanks for the video Meg! Hope you are well. The irony is that it's actually Thanos who has been inspired by Darkseid. And if you're curious about him, Apokolips and the new gods side of DC in general because of their ruthlessness, you're in for a treat. There will be more in the Sups series, and then Justice League/JLUnlimited, and then films like Supes/bats Apocalipse (I mean it's in the title :)), JL: War, JL Dark: Apokolips War, JL Gods and Monster and finally the Young Justice series for more info and details about all the monstrosity of this world. :)

He's actually a tribute to Metron, and was even supposed to have a similar physique, but was literally told "If you're going to rip-off a New God, then rip-off the cool one!" So he's a Metron-like character (but more evil) with a Darkseid-like body.

Darkseid is genuinely one of the most powerful and iconic comic book villains. From Marvel Comics, Thanos was originally inspired by Darkseid, and when I say he is a menace to not just Superman but the entire DC Universe, I genuinely mean it. Darkseid is voiced by Micheal Ironside, and he truly does a phenomenal job putting the genuine fear of a god with his performance as Darkseid. This and the Justice League show do an incredible job with his character and how much of a humungous threat he is to the universe. Kalibak is kind of a tragic character since he was born into the world as the son of Darkseid and has constantly been abused both physically and emotionally by his father to prove himself to him despite Darkseid barely caring about Kalibk at all, especially when Darkseid is more concerned with his two other son's Orion and Mister Miracle

In the animated series, kalibak was a son of "high father" and Orion was darkseids. But they traded sons as a peace treaty. Maybe it's different in the comics and other iterations, but I'm pretty sure that's how it is in the animated series.

@@fireeaglefitnessmartialart935 Actually it's confirmed that Mister Miracle exists in the DCAU and we see him later in the Justice League show and its confirmed he is the biological son of High Father in this continuity and was swapped with Orion as part of the peace treaty. We see a flashback of Mister Miracle as a child under Granny Goodness' care for Darkseid. Kalibak in this show much like the comics has no relation to High Father or New Genesis but he is in fact Darkseids son, perhaps after he swapped Orion he had relations with an unknown woman and had Kalibak yet he hardly cared about Kalibak at all and treats him like a deformed disappointment

Personally, I think the reason Darkseid is such a strong villain is because Jack Kirby developed the New Gods concept outside of Superman (Largely with the exception of some Jimmy Olsen stuff). So he really stands on his own outside of Superman in my mind. In fact, it wasn’t until this series that I really started thinking of him as a Superman villain.

I love this episode because it’s a great showcase for the two most polar opposite fathers imaginable. I really like the fact they kept Jonathan Kent alive in the DCAU when he dies in most universes. His presence adds another level to Superman’s character. Meanwhile, Darkseid doesn’t even have to do anything to flex just how evil and powerful he is. He only cares about power, and since Kalibek is a weakling in his eyes, he serves no purpose to him. 11:33 Thanos wishes he was powerful as Darkseid. He was created as a basic ripoff of Darkseid. That’s just how influential Jack Kirby’s characters and artwork are, and I love how much of Kirby’s style is depicted in this episode

Darkseid is basically the embodiment of evil. His entire goal is enslaving the universe to his will, and he is utterly remorseless and without mercy. Micheal Ironside does a spectacular job voicing him as well. His rivalry with Superman in the DCAU is some of the best stuff these shows have to offer. Also, I think Kalibak actually does survive and was merely teleported away. If I’m not mistaken he ends up appearing later. Very excited to see you check out “World’s Finest” soon! This was about the time that Batman: The Animated Series (BTAS) switched art styles to conform with the more angular Superman series and became The New Batman Adventures (TNBA). Not sure if that means you’ll end up jumping over to TNBA, but I hope that comes sometime down the line! Soon enough you’ll be on your way to Justice League and Batman Beyond!

When you said you're watching "World's Finest" next I got so excited! I wonder how close you are to watching something about the Justice League. I know the traditional logic is by having one main character. You can get more depth out of that one character and a lot of emotional connection. But I am a huge fan of team-ups, I love seeing the different Dynamics between characters. I read more Avengers and Justice League comics, than I read any of the individual Character storylines. And I always prefer the Batman stories that focus on his sidekicks or Alfred.

I feel like DCAU's Desaad straight up feeds on conflict. He convinced Kalibak to kill Superman against Darkseid's orders, told Darkseid that Kalibak chose to do it on his own free will, and even told Kalibak not to mention it to Darkseid. That all just screams "I feed on conflict".

*SPOILER ALERT FOR THE MATRIX* ... Would you believe me if I said this episode inspired the scene in The Matrix where it's confirmed that Neo is The One? Compare the scene where Trinity tells Neo she loves him, Neo regains his strength, and then effortlessly knocks about Agent Smith's blows, before driving him far away, to the scene where Superman is reminded of his father while fighting Kalibak. Everyone has frustration sometimes but I still love them and I can assure you I don't take that for granted. I am always thankful and trying to pay back my good luck. As for Darkseid he is the worst father ever and is way more evil than Thanos! Espescially the MCU version who had good intentions. In the comics Thanos is more evil but even then it is openly confirmed that Thanos is just a rip off of Darkseid! In fact Thanos was going to be a copy of a different DC character but at the last minute they deceided to copy Darkseid instead because he is way more epic! Wheather or not Darkseid killed his son in this version is a little inconsistent but in the comics the way it works is that Darkseid can put people in a type of death by sending them to the Omega Santion = Hell and then if he wants to he can bring them back latter.

I like how they gradually show Darkseid’s appearance and what he is capable of. First is one appearance you see he rules an entire planet. Now he meets Superman for the first time and he just blasts him to show his strength. Darkseid first appeared in the comics back in December of 1970 while Thanos on the other hand would day bewed 3 years later on February 1973. Darkseid is without a doubt the most powerful villain in the DC universe ( rivaled in power only by Trigon and the anti-monitor ) He is a "New God" he is basically a deity. An Kalibak is just 1 out of 5 of Darkseid's children. That power Darkseid used from his eyes is called the Omega beams. They never miss their target and they are capable of almost anything but they are mostly used to kill and even erase individuals from existence! Kalibak was killed but only temporarily, Darkseid has the power to bring back to life anyone that he has killed.

​@MegMageReacts the next episode is the animated design of batman for the new batman adventures which is the same as superman the animated series and is the same animated style that Bruce timm used for the new batman adventures aka season 4 of batman the animated series, superman the animated series batman spin off batman beyond with one movie batman beyond return of the joker with Mark Hamill return as the joker , justice league and justice league unlimited and the movie that takes place inside harleen quinzel's head because it feels like it. There are four guys that have taken the mantle of the flash the first one was Jay Garrett in 1940s to 1950s and he had a silver cap helmet with gold wings and a long sleeve shirt with a lightning bolt on it and blue jeans and boots with wings and married to Joan Williams . The second flash is Barry Allen a csi for central city which you already met him in the first animated justice league movie on your channel and his wife and he was the serious one with no comedy and had a sidekick named kid flash wally west his wife cousin from keystone city and wally west got his power the same way Barry Allen flash did strike by lightning bolt and thrown across the room and cemicles all over him and became the flash and wally west at first wore a copy of the flash suit before changing the suit with the cowl show his hair and the top half of his costume change to yellow with red wings and red lightning bolt on it .wally west was my favorite incarnation of the flash and he is back as the flash while Barry Allen is retired but show up every once in a while just like Jay Garrett does . Wally west first became the flash after Barry Allen flash disappeared while stopping a villan and wally west was the flash of the 90s and the early 2000s and is back wearing his flash costume from the 90s and that's great . The fourth flash was Bart Allen the great grandson of the flash was impulse was kid flash for a while and was the flash for a while and now he is back to impulse .wally west has a wife Linda parks and has 3 kids with super speed and Barry Allen has two children with super speed power . Bruce timm did like wally west and he decided that he should be the flash in this version of the justice league and his appearance in super man the animated series episode speed demons Bruce timm did not like Barry Allen but did reference the first and second flash by the way of the appearance of the flash museum that was a thing in the flash comics and Jay Garrett helmet is in the museum and his kid flash suit and reference to speed demons episode and the flash villans that are different from the ones from gotham and the original voice actor of wally west left so, Bruce timm found Michael who played lex in the tv show Smallville . There is also a great spin off of clone wars called star wars rebels and the bad bunch .
