I used to be this way to my mom, I was frustrated because I felt like I wasn’t being heard. And being that there were other children in the house that needed more attention I felt undervalued. It was years later I apologized to my mom for acting that way towards her; it must have hurt her so much.

haha i understand. As a kid I grew up in a very physically abusive household, my mum was kind and strong though she got manipulated and beaten by my dad, I too got beaten. It made me apricate early what monsters are. That you must love and respect those who show you good kindness - you can do so much damage to hurt in the face of openness, i felt it first hand. I hated kids who take their good parent for granted, or even abused them, back then - with a fury. But now i realise it was result of your fortune. You were young and ignorant and your feeling safe with lash out was a privilege they gifted you, you must now be thankful to them for that (not blame them for 'not raising you right' say (the fact that you might heavily exposes your privilege) - think, they gave you so much). You we're so lucky to have such a kind figure (though you treated them as a punching bag). tldr: basically just posting this cos im bitter to all others RESPECT GOOD PARENTS PLS you're so lucky, treat them with kindness, and with good people like that it will be returned 100 times over. you're so lucky.

I feel bad. People should be able to have access to parenting classes or some kind of professional training/resources...before the kid turns 12 & is impossible. My mother is a professional nanny & she's Caribbean- I knew not to even THINK about acting like that (especially in public).

Jodi Almengor Parents DO have access to a plethora of information! This is the Information Age! There are resources galore...parenting classes, books, videos, teacher supply stores, you name it. Every Barnes and Noble has a whole section on parenting! Pediatricians are an invaluable resource! For all these parents who don’t know what to do with their kids all day long, there are books with enough activities to keep kids busy for 100 yrs. Help is out there; parents just have to seek it out.
@jodialmengor9912
@jodialmengor9912 3 жыл бұрын
@@lessehead While i understand your point, the truth is wealthy people will bring in professional resources when they need assistance with parenting & the development of parenting skills. We can have a separate discussion about domestic labor being undervalued & unrecognized in the US- but the reality is rich people have increased access to extensive resources for parenting support. (Also, not everyone has healthcare and access to a regular pediatrician for their children.)The premise of super nanny is that she was a nanny for elite families prior to her tv career. There should be expanded resources available to all parents & anyone who works directly with children. These parents are essentially getting access to a professional coach.
@bobbij7089
@bobbij7089 3 жыл бұрын
You are so right. It's ridiculous that something as important as parenting isn't taught to people. You just kind of assumed that you're going to have the baby and know what to do but that is not the case and it shows. Just like everything else in life you have to learn what you don't know and I wish we did that more commonly. Usually it takes a really bad situation before parenting classes are forced on people. Why aren't we all taught basic skills when it comes to raising a family? I completely agree with you
@lessehead
@lessehead 3 жыл бұрын
Jodi Almengor If you have watched her U.K. shows, you know that she works with families at all ends of the financial spectrum. The library is free to everyone, not only for books but also for internet access. Info is out there for everyone who seeks it. I taught inner city, high risk kids for 30 yrs, and they all had pediatricians that they used as resources. They may not have seen the same dr each time, but they had access to them.

I hate when parents try to be the friend. It doesn't work that way. You are more important than a friend because you are mom or dad. You are their love, support and guide. Be those things and then they can be a great friend and make wonderful friends.

I feel so bad. My parents were disciplinarians when we were younger. We had so much respect for them and never acted out like this or any way. My parents ended up getting sick and injured and now that we are older we have very little respect for them like we did before. I know we behave badly (we talk back and catch attitudes), I’m 25 my other sisters are 28 and 18 and we all don’t treat them right. I wish all the time that I could go back to being respectful to them and I try but it’s so hard because my parents are so demanding and needy now. It’s so hard to change behaviors but I am trying and will succeed and I’m so proud of these families for trying to change for the better.

There’s a fine line between talking back and asserting oneself. If the definition of backtalk has to do with what you say, you’re dealing with a controlling parent. If the definition backtalk has to do with how you say it, you have a loving parent.

Forcing a child into cognitive dissonance is child abuse. So is punishing dissent. If your parents say to you to the effect of “What I say to you is always correct, no matter what the facts say, and if you say otherwise, you’re talking back to me”, you’re dealing with a controlling parent, as that tactic is invasive and coercive. Invasive and coercive parenting tactics are excessive.
