I remember when I first watched this episode, I was like “Big brother will come to save you Sammy!” then Sam actually died and I was shocked 😱 At the beginning of the episode I was kidding like “Wow Sam got kidnapped 10 seconds after leaving Dean” then I ended up crying 🥺🥺

Excellent reaction! I love this episode so much, and the one after it. The guys' acting was absolutely top-notch! Fun fact, in that last scene, Jensen didn't have to imagine someone else dying to summon up the emotion needed. He and Jared are just like brothers, and the tears were real.

My thing with Ava is my gut reaction is always to be pissed when she's mentioned, when fans talk about big betrayals on the show. But Supernatural loves gray & complex characters~ and I remember that when I rewatch Ava's episodes, and just mourn the person she was. Like you pointed out: she was there for 5 months fighting for her life. She probably thought her fiance might still be alive for some of it and honestly just wanted to get home to him... maybe her reaction to Sam telling her what happened was genuine? She said it started getting kinda fun, but we don't know at what point that was. Plus, we had examples of how early some of these chosen could turn before even this episode, and then Jake(the soldier) to show how easy even good people can justify a lot when self-defense/self-preservation is on the table. And it might've been easier for her against people she didn't know. She could've still been being honest when she said sorry to Sam, a guy she had once did her best to save, even if she was already a lost cause at that point. Now, I just consider Ava a warning... Not to pour salt in the wounds, but I imagine Sam maybe would've noticed Jake in the end, if he hadn't relaxed and let his guard down when he saw Bobby & Dean... His trust in Dean to have his back... well... you know~

Yep. Dean showed up at JUST the wrong moment. Rolling up to save Sam, and distracts him at the worst possible time. The episode description on iTunes even says “after the fight between Jake and Sam, Dean has to deal with the consequences of his interference.” Always gets me.

I had to laugh when you told Sam not to leave the knife behind. I was yelling at him the first time I watched this to take the knife with him because that was just dumb. And then he died in Dean's arms and I ugly cried.

He was so distracted by hearing Dean’s voice. He’s spent all episode worried as hell that Yellow Eyes killed him when he took Sam. Like Ava’s fiancé died when she was taken. All Sam cared about at that moment was “oh, thank God, he’s alive, and we’re together again.” He completely forgot about Jake for a second.

@@odile8701 yeah, no, I have to disagree. Jake needed to stab Sam, so Sam needed to drop the knife. It was, if not necessarily bad writing, then certainly simplistic and poorly motivated writing. It would have made more sense if Jake had a second knife stashed on him somewhere.

@@meredithcarroll6209 hell, if you want to go that route, and claim it was just poorly written, Jake could have simply snapped Sam’s neck like he did Ava’s. He’s got the strength. Sam being distracted by Dean was kind of the point. It makes it all that much more heart-breaking. Dean comes to save him, and ends up being the thing that gets him dead. Just look at Sam’s face when he hears Dean’s voice the first time. How everything else is completely forgotten as he turns towards it. Hell, the description of the next episode on iTunes even says “after the fight between Jake and Sam, Dean has to deal with the repercussions of his interference.”

@@markmckeown87 Look at the view counts on her Season 6 of Classic Doctor Who though. Less the 5000 views since November for War Games 7&8. This video has 2000 views in less then 2 hours. As much as I love Classic Who (and I'm part of that 4600 views on CDW) the vast majority of her audience isn't really interested. Also its completely disingenuous to say 1/2 of Classic who as she is doing 2 at a time. So more realistically its 350 episodes of CDW compared to 320 Supernatural.

@@tking791 True on the ep count but my point was it's also a multi year adventure, and if you don't want to go by that, then even with New Who, that was started in 2016 and only recently caught up. Plus I don't believe views have anything to do with it anyway, there are other shows on at the moment, with others on the way that are returning, so the schedule wouldn't allow for it. Very few reactors do multiple episodes of a show per week unless they are doing it on an 'amateur' level, ie. it's not their full time income, and so instead plans must be set in place to allow for scheduling of other shows. I'm sure you understand that ofcourse, but it'll take several year and that's just the way it's gonna be.

We know that every time a new reactor starts this show. That’s part of what makes it fun! You get to know the reactor more and watch them get more and more invested over the years. I LOVED Ava’s turn, she was pretty awesome appearing as herself, them all of a sudden showing the monster that Yellow Eyes has turned her into. Sam was so great, putting all the other kids first and doing anything possible to save them. Dean was heartbreaking seeing his brother with his spinal cord severed and him dying in his arms. You’re right, Dean has NOTHING to live for if all that is true. Hope you recover by next week. Take care.

Great reaction! This was a lot of fun to watch. Sorry for enjoying your pain. We've all been there. Seeing Ava turn bad hurt. Killing Andy! I really liked both of them. But she had to survive, so she gave in to her powers. That flipping the switch reference is troublesone. So seems like every special kid who does that turns evil. Makes you understand why Sam is not keen on exploring his powers. Poor Sam. His good nature is not always good for survival. He needs to learn not to trust that someone you knock out may come to and kill ya!

I could tell Sam was dead at the end from the way Dean was grieving. Jensen's acting is stellar, his pain is so raw and real. Aww, there's no reason to fight the tears. Even knowing Sam will be back (because they wouldn't do the show without him), the loss still makes me cry.

I can't wait for next weeks episode!! that one really hurts also, take your time with this show and please don't feel rushed or obligated to watch faster. there's so much to enjoy in this show from the countless episodes, characters, bloopers, etc. I think some of us get overly excited about wanting you to get to some later episodes (like this one + the next), but it's definitely worth the wait. I think we all appreciate how much work you put into these reactions.
